ok so i've been down a rabbit hole of ai design tools lately and i need to share
fair warning: this is going to be a long one. grab a coffee.
i run a small online shop (stickers, prints, some apparel) and for a long time my creative workflow was just... a mess. too many tabs open. too many tools that promised a lot and delivered not much. this year i actually sat down and rebuilt the whole thing and i found some stuff that genuinely made me say "wait, this is real?"
so here's what i've been using, and what i actually think about it.
i needed to redo my shop branding earlier this year. dreaded it. opened up Logo Diffusion because a friend mentioned it and ended up spending like three hours just... playing.
text-to-logo, sketch-to-logo (you can upload a literal hand drawing!!), 3D effects, background removal, vector exports. the outputs look like actual logos? not the weird uncanny stuff you get from most AI image tools. i ended up with something i genuinely like and it took one afternoon instead of three weeks of back-and-forth with a designer i couldn't really afford.
they have a free plan too which is how i got hooked before committing to anything.
product photos without a photoshoot (yes really)
okay this one actually kind of blew my mind when i first tried it.
SellerPic takes a single product photo โ one! โ and turns it into lifestyle images, model shots, and short videos. i uploaded a photo of one of my prints against a plain background and got back images of it in a cozy living room setting, and then a little video version ready for reels.
the lighting looked real. the shadows made sense. it wasn't that thing where the product looks like it's floating on a background that doesn't match.
for small shops that can't budget a whole photoshoot every time they drop something new, this is genuinely game-changing. also the model shots feature is cool โ diverse options for skin tone, body type, pose. feels like they actually thought about representation.
mockups that don't look like everyone else's mockups
here's a thing i noticed: a lot of POD shops look identical because they're all using the same mockup templates.
Dynamic Mockups lets you use your own photoshop templates so your mockups actually look like yours. there's also a bulk generator (huge if you have a lot of products), an API for automation, and an AI backgrounds feature that creates custom lifestyle scenes.
the embeddable editor is wild โ you can literally put it on your own website and let customers design their own products and see them in real time. i don't use that feature personally but for anyone selling custom merch directly it's a whole thing.
okay the poster tool is genuinely fun
i needed some event graphics for a local market i was selling at and someone told me about AI Poster Generator.
the interface is chat-based which sounds gimmicky but honestly works really well. you just... describe what you want. "i need a poster for a weekend craft fair, kind of cozy and handmade feeling, with this text." and it asks you some questions and builds it in real time while you're talking.
then you can edit everything manually in the sidebar. move text around, change colors, adjust the background. end result was actually super cute and i printed it at the local print shop and it looked great.
no design experience needed, which is accurate โ i'm okay at design but i know people who've used this who have zero background and their stuff looked professional.
for the people running actual shops at scale
if you're selling print-on-demand at any real volume, MyDesigns is the one that keeps coming up and it came up for a reason.
it connects to etsy, shopify, woocommerce, tiktok shop. it bulk-designs products. it writes SEO listings with AI. it creates mockups. it publishes everything. 200k+ sellers, 50 million+ products created. those numbers are not small.
i'm not at the scale where i need all of this yet but i've been using it for the listing writing part and it saves me an embarrassing amount of time. the SEO stuff in particular โ i always dreaded writing descriptions and now i just don't have to anymore.
