fnaf movie 2 thoughts #1 - general & charlotte emily...
tldr this movie was good except for literally storytelling and pacing and the ending. I heard that Scott was the only writer on the movie, and it shows... Making a storyline for something as straightforward as a movie when your preferred writing style is just 'confusion' is not your forte dude
anyway I might get into it deeper later, but for now here's something I think I can articulate... Charlie Emily character [assassination]
look, I don't think the movie ruins her character in general; it's a single version of her throughout the FNAF universe, which doesn't really apply to her novel and game counterparts. however, the way it was supposed to be is that Charlie and Golden Freddy kid (aka the game's vengeful spirit) should've switched their narrative roles. But they didn't.
Movie Golden Freddy was a perfect mix of Michael Brooks from the novels and Cassidy from the games (or whoever you think the VS is, it doesn't matter), and he has NOTHING that Charlie has. Nothing was taken from her UCN voice lines, nothing from Henry's speech talking about Charlie ([in fact, the phrasing he uses fits movie Charlie very well, so it's clear that the movie Charlie was supposed to be herself, not another character's insert]), and he doesn't resemble novel Charlie either.
On the other hand, the movie Charlie LITERALLY ACTS LIKE FANON CASSIDY ('fanon' being both in a good and a bad way) AKA THE VENGEFUL SPIRIT. That brings the question, why would the movie franchise need TWO versions of a vengeful spirit? The milder one and the game canon one? What purpose does the mishandling of Charlie's character serve?
The reason movie Mike Schmidt and movie Michael Afton & Vanessa Afton work is because Michael and Vanessa are role-switched narrative foils to each other (Michael being game Elizabeth, Vanessa being game Michael). While yes, a lot of people still dislike game Michael being split into two separate characters, to me, it's not the same as the cognitive dissonance that is movie Charlie.
That being said, she is still one of my favourite characters in the franchise, but I just don't like most of her movie portrayal.
