#HappyDecember yall ⛄️As this new month is upon us and as the new year is approaching swiftly this is something important to remember: It is perfectly OKAY to change your mind. This is part of life. Change is one of the only constants in this world. Don't feel obligated to stick with something because of the expectations of others. If you're in an unhappy situation (relationship, friendship, school, job, etc.) break the shackles and emancipate yourself from captivity. We must seek what allows us to positively grow; don't entertain situations that stifle your progress. Yes, yesterday I said I liked this, but you know what? I changed my mind and now I like something else. Is that a crime? No. We are not obligated to stay in the same box for the rest of our existence. Change is such a beautiful thing but often times others want us to remain the same, for their own selfish reasons. But you can't hold down the caterpillar who is destined for metamorphosis. Never apologize for your progression and growth. Everyone can't come with you on the journey you were destined for. New Month = New Book 😍 Raided my Dad's book collection and found this gem. Started reading it and I'm already so enthralled. I've read about the dangers of aluminum deodorant but now I'm convinced. And flouride toothpaste 😷...i need to overhaul! So many things in our lives are toxic to us and we don't even realize it. Have recently learned that memories outweigh material things. As we partake in the mass consumerism that is #CyberMonday it's important to remember that there is nothing we absolutely NEED in this world, that can be bought. I used to wait for #BlackFriday so I could trample other people while looking for the cheapest deals (🙊) until I realized that the $400 spent on the latest flatscreen could have been used to fly to Mexico. I'd rather see the world than get an expensive handbag, Michael Kors watch, or one of those damn hover board things [what is the purpose of that anyway?] Material things aren't everything even though we glorify it as such in this country. While certain things like shelter, food and water are necessities to live, is an Apple Watch and some expensive shoes really going to add value and meaning to your life? I used to think so...but have since started realizing that there's SO MUCH more to life than how much you have, what you own and what you make. At the end of the day, no matter how much "material wealth" you've amassed, it can be gone in an instant. So take as many trips as you possibly can. So thankful for them. Haven't seen some of them in 2+ years but one thing we can all appreciate about the holidays is even if we don't celebrate them, it's a blessing to get time off of work to spend with loved ones. Never underestimate the power of a simple text or call.. Wasn't having the best day and somehow @naima.h22 must have sensed it. Definitely learning this slowly. When you're younger you want to be friends with everyone and think that there's power in numbers. As you get older you realize it's not the amount but the type of friends that matter the most. If you have one true and genuine friend be thankful for that. Surround yourself with people that are going to lift you so high, even when life seems so low. Don't allow blood suckers to empty the goodness out of your life. The beautiful thing about life is that it's constantly changing. Things don't always stay the same. You outgrow situations and that's okay. That's what life is about. But what life isn't about is allowing anyone you call a friend to make you feel less than. You are worthy. You are whole. You are a spark of God. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. It's absolutely asinine that 31 state governors are against allowing Syrian refugees into their state. While it is understandable to have concerns over who is entering this country, no one should be denied based solely on their ethnicity. America was built on the mantra of freedom and justice for all. Immigrants and the children of immigrants built this country into the place that it is today. One of the most valuable lessons you will ever learn. We see things and interrupt the world based on our perception and experiences. Everyone's perception is unique, which is why we all see things so differently. But simply understanding this, has been a revelation in my life. I can't get angry or upset with another person's way of thinking, Because what we accept is based on our own evolution. We are all at different stages. This is so real. So true. Not taking anything away from the horrific acts that just took place but have you noticed what stories get the least amount of coverage IF ANY coverage at all? If we rely solely on the popular media to get all our information we're getting a skewed version of what's really going on. Facebook and YouTube paying homage to the victims was heartwarming but I couldn't help but notice how many other tragedies have taken place in the last year that didn't get the proper media coverage. Stay informed and realize that news networks all have a motive and a story they're trying to get across to you. Highly recommended documentary that traces the deep connections black people have with soul/comfort food and how detrimental this is to our livelihood. Very eye-opening!
