Short video clip of sharks from Heron Island! this was some of the footage my group took for this one fish, and we ended up getting sharks instead.
still fraser island pics
Fraser Island! The largest sand island in the world that comes with a rainforest and the purest dingo population. For mid-semester break I went to Fraser Island for 5 days on a field trip and got to learn about the different type of ecosystems, it was a very plant focused type of trip. We worked for half of the day and then we explored for the other half of the day so it was really good! We went to 3 lakes and it was so cool to be in a freshwater lake, with sand underneath you and the beach right next to you. Although the beaches were not for swimming because of the strong currents and the abundance of dangerous sharks! mainly bull sharks.
The food was so great! The field trip was fully catered and there was always extra if I wanted more.
We had to drive to places on the island so it was cool to drive on the sand, sometimes it was a little scary and I was worried about tipping over and there were a couple close calls, but here I am, still alive to tell the tale.
There is a coconut picture because we went and grabbed some coconuts and peeled the outer layer and then cracked the inside open. We made an afternoon of it since they took so long to open.
I unfortunately did not get to see a dingo although I know a couple of people got lucky. I was tempted to leave the dingo-safe gate open so they would come into camp...
For everyday I was there I woke up around 5 to do activities. Bird watching, although I didn't see anything too interesting which was disappointing. And then animal trapping, which we saw that cute mouse among some other things.
On a different note, one of the tutors that came with us on the trip helped make an episode of PLANET EARTH! she worked on the glow worms episode and was the scientific adviser for it.
But anyways! Fraser Island was so much fun! glad i went!
Some pictures from a Coogee- Bondi beach walk that I did
I can't believe I actually got to see the famous harbor bridge and the opera house. I never thought that I'd get to see it in person when I've seen it so often on tv and such! I was so excited!
BLUE MOUNTAINS: SYDNEY
Took a day trip to the Blue Mountains when I was in Sydney. It was such a good decision. We saw the three sisters and walked down to touch one of them. After that we got to explore the rainforest a little and hiked up and down over 2000 stairs. It was probably the best part of sydney though!
took 410 pictures of this trip. hard to pick what I want to post
Sea World field trip, got private talks, was a good day!
More pictures from Lamington :)
Pictures from Lamington National Park! 20k hike! Took 8 hours total
Lamington is in the Gold Coast Hinterlands which is south of Brisbane, took around 1.5 hrs to get there
Australian Cuisine
Sausages on a slice of bread is what they call a barbecue. And I've probably had one for free at least once every two weeks.
and Fish and chips is everywhere. chips= french fries. somehow i was a little slow making that connection.
Lamb is a favored meat and so is the fish whiting.
Beet root is on EVERYTHING. I still haven't tried it yet but I think it might be good! like a pickle almost. It isn't raw beet root but from a can? I'm not quite sure but it is definitely soaked in something. More to come on this topic..
