Tw mention of sexual assault in Greek mythology
I haven’t watched Nolan’s odyssey (is it even out yet? Idk) and as a Greek girl who’s been obsessed with Greek mythology since early childhood I already know they’re gonna fuck it up (I mean, the fact that they erased EVERY bit of color from our very colorful heritage is already shitty -the white Ancient Greek marble statues used to be painted in so many colors! The Mediterranean has such pretty hues of blue!) BUT my one and only request is for them NOT to fuck up the situation of Odysseus and Calypso. In the sense that people always overlook that Odysseus was a victim of coercion/assault for seven fucking years (I remember studying the odyssey at school and Homer specifically mentioned “and at night he [Odysseus] lay with her despite not wanting to”). And I haven’t ever seen anyone portray that fact about the odyssey. But also it’s important not to portray Calypso as this malicious villain, because, and while this absolutely does NOT justify her actions, it is core part of her character that she doesn’t understand what she’s doing is wrong. And when talking about the Odyssey people either use Calypso (and Circe) as arguments about whether or not Odysseus cheated on Penelope, meanwhile especially in Ogygia he could not escape without a ship and he could not make a ship without Calypso finding out and-
Yeah I just really want to see someone properly acknowledge Odysseus’s trauma beyond ‘yeah I killed a bunch of men -anyway!’
my contribution to the fandom
This is Dimitrios Katsikis, a blacksmith and researcher who's armor reconstruction is so authentic and praised it's featured in museums. Christopher Nolan contacted him as a consultant but then left him on read, there is genuinely zero ZERO excuse as to why Nolans movie should look so bland and bad.
Dimitrios Katsikis, known online as "the modern Hephaestus", talks about his collection of handcrafted ancient Greek armors.
Why don't I say it then?
I want you all the time.
Nolan's Odyssey & The Western View of Greek Culture
New mandatory-viewing video for the lovers of Greek myth and ancient Greek religion just dropped! If you're going to watch one video about how the West has mistreated Greek culture and people, let it be this!
It's an extremely informative and comprehensive essay by a non-Greek who knows the culture from the inside and has studied the historical trends of cultural misappropriation surrounding the West and Greek myths.
If you are not familiar with this issue, I promise you will emerge much wiser and more respectful from this viewing.
Coco✨ I couldn't resist making a fanart with good old ink and paper.
When I say we should keep Americans and Brits away from our mythology, that's exactly what I mean.
@alatismeni-theitsa found your new favourite xd
Almost 14k likes to this? 😭🤦♀️ That was such a stupid and unnecessary take that I don't even want to try and debunk it.
I'd like to see her try to make the same comparison with the Abrahamic god :) oh, that would be disrespectful? I wonder why... Wether a religion or heritage, if it's foreign, US-Americans have no fuckin SENSE
The video is good for laughs because her points makes literally no sense. About the Elon Musk as Hermes take, name ONE male god who doesn’t have a bunch of baby mamas
My brain would be melting if I weren’t laughing so hard at it
the "rip ___ you would have loved ___" meme is inherently more fun with ancient characters. rip clytemnestra you would have loved morse code. rip theseus you would have loved the airtag. rip callisto you would have loved wearing shorts.
RIP Icarus, you would have loved rockets
apprentice uniform for brushbuddy too so they dont feel left out
This is kinda a test because I’m still very new to how tumblr works! I have dreams of eventually writing my own comic, so for practice I adapted the very first page(s) of gahoole into comic form! I’m still learning about the comic creating process and finding out what works for me. For now, have some silly owl drawings :D
The dialogue+story is from the original book series by Kathryn Lasky, though slightly modified by me to fit text box constraints :)
Internet : We need more complex characters.

Is it just me or does "Witch Hat Atelier" have similar vibes as "Earthsea"? The novels, NOT the studio ghibli movie, I mean.
