jake sucks in a breath through his teeth, considering his options. he could give this conversation a hard pass and go back to a much more gratifying task for the evening, or he could humor jason and let him in. itâs not exactly a difficult decision ( he thinks heâs going to give this a no ) but curiosity keeps the phrase stuck behind his teeth. he doesnât think jasonâs ever actually sought him out before, after all, and house calls are hardly something heâs known him to do. maybe with friends, although as far as heâs concerned jason doesnât seem to have many, but the two of them are far from positively acquainted. in public people may assume that they know each other, that they may be the kind of people to wave in a hallway, but thereâs nothing about either of them that screams iâm fond of this asshole. to jason, jakeâs hell incarnated. to jake, jasonâs a liability. neither of them are very happy with the situation; jakeâs just, arguably, got the better deal. âfine,â he says at last, opening the door further; âyou can come in. but next time youâre gonna have to make an appointment, okay?â itâs a joke to anyone else that may be listening, but his stare is less forgiving. âcome on, letâs make this quick. iâve got clients emailing me left and right, and you know how they can be.â
Thereâs a moment where Jasonâs afraid that heâs going to say no. To his relief though, he didnât deny him right away. âThank you,â he said, his voice felt strained and he didnât like that. It just added to how whenever they spoke in public, he and Jake seemed to converse like they were elderly friends. He wondered what outsiders thought of them, not that it mattered. Never in a million years would anyone really know the truth about Jake, at least thatâs how Jason saw it. If the man could easily blackmail him, he couldnât be close from being caught. âI find it a bit more fun to drop in on friends, keeps a bit of surprise in the friendship after all.â He stepped inside the house, doing his best not to roll his eyes at the âletâs make this quickâ. He wanted it to be quick, but considering the vastness of his ârequestâ he figured it was going to be slow and painful. Jason couldnât help himself, looking around his home. It was way too normal to be a murderers home, but that was the thing about murderers, they were just... Fucking weird. âIâm actually not really in tune with how clients are since I write articles about Ancient Rome but uh... Sure.â He took a deep breath, wondering why it was so hard to just ask. It was a simple question, it wasnât like Jake was going to kill him for asking. âCan you maybe... Like... Stop blackmailing me?â

itâs a bit late to be expecting someone, but heâs learned that âexpectationsâ donât matter much in bonehill. everything seems oddly distorted here, which is probably why he hasnât left. itâs a nice atmosphere for someone whoâs equally as unsettling. sighing, he pulls himself up from his current project, slipping over to the door and unlatching the lock. pulling it open just enough to see whoâs bothering him this late in the evening. is it a jehovahâs witness? he hopes not. he doesnât think they tend to stick around in utah, anyway. âoh, hey jason,â he says casually, his brow arched upwards. âdid you need something?â admittedly, heâs a bit surprised to see him here. firstly, because he doesnât remember telling him where he lives. secondly, because heâs almost sure that jason wants nothing to do with him. he pauses, sending a glance back into his apartment, where his photographs lay scattered across a coffee table. âbecause iâm kind of busy right now, you know? whatever you want, do you mind coming back for it tomorrow?â
Jason honestly doesnât know what to expect when Jake answers the door, he just needs to talk. He needs to at least ask him to stop all this. Itâs eating him alive. He wonât even say anything, he was even willing to leave town if Jake just let him be. Jason was glad that he was right about this being Jakeâs home though, thankful that his ability to pick up on the stupidest little facts had come in handy. âYeah, I actually needed to talk to you,â he said, giving a seemingly sweet smile, just in case anyone was watching. It was a small town after all, no need for people to think there was problems bubbling between them, or any problems at all. He was just a buddy that came over for a good talk and maybe some beer, thatâs what people did when they were friends, right? They drank while discussing things like, yâknow, murder. âAnd Iâd really like to talk now, since Iâm pretty busy tomorrow.â Itâs not that the conversation is actually of any importance, but he figured, so long as he has the nerve up, he should try to approach Jake about not blackmailing him anymore. He didnât need to be an accomplice any longer. âCan I come in?â

âI mean⊠everybody pukes,â he said, trying to mediate but doing so rather poorly. Sighing softly, he shrugged a shoulder at the otherâs continued comments. âDo they at least properly reimburse the janitors for the extra work? I mean, maybe they appreciate the extra money. With every puking toddler comes a little extra cash, yâknow? Could be wrong, though. At Veto, if someone makes a mess in one of the bathroom, we get paid hundred dollars cash if weâre the one who cleans it up.â
âYeah, but child puke is the worst,â Jason grumbled, knowing that it wasnât that big of a deal, but it had really been bothering him. He wasnât sure why but... âThey try too, itâs hard, since the pool only makes so much and thereâs utilities to pay and shit. And the janitors are honestly the sweetest employees there, they donât mind as long as the kids enjoy themselves, but.. Yeah. Thatâs really great that your job does that at least. My boss ends up reimbursing me for hours I donât work since I live across town from the pool. Itâs just a mess, yâknow? Fuck capitalism.â

Popping open a bag of cheese puffs, Shiloh settled on the couch beside Jason. âThatâs a rough day of work. Poor guys, I bet they really wish you guys would make a no toddlerâs rule. But I guess thatâs out of the question yeah?â Plucking a curl from the bag and tossing it into her mouth, Shiloh grinned to herself. âMaybe you could have extended adult swim only? Or pay the janitors extra for the days they have to clean up toddler waste?â Dusting her hands off by brushing them together, Shiloh reached for the remote. âOh well, at least it means that we get more time to catch up on Ancient Aliens. This oneâs supposedly groundbreaking.â
Jason reached across and grabbed a handful of the cheese puffs, wondering why he only ate this junk when Shiloh was around. Was it because she was a bad influence? Or was it because the only food to eat during Ancient Aliens was the absolute worst food on the planet? Or was it a mix of both? âI think itâs just because children are awful,â Jason said, shrugging his shoulders a bit before settling back into the couch. He popped a cheese puff in his mouth, âIâm totally fine with this. I canât wait, the Ancient Aliens guy is honestly just... Life goals. I want to be paid to talk about how aliens started the world.â

she raised both eyebrows. âis that a thing people actually say?â she asked naively, her accent seeming more prominent than ever in her own head. she raised her glasses above her head, âi mean, if i remember anything about being a kid, is that theyâre literally uncontrollable. but the janitors literally get paid to do that shit. itâs their job.â
âOh uh-- not really? Mostly itâs like, âitâs all fun and games untilâ and then someone fills in the blank with whatever has been stressing them out that day, yâknow?â Jason tried to explain, though admittedly, English wasnât his best subject. He knew enough to get by and write his academic papers, but nothing further. âYeah, they are. From what I noticed. And yeah, it is, but I think like, parents have an obligation to keep track of their kids as well, yâknow?â
pearlgreenes::
â can you believe i have to go to, not the next town over or the town after that but THREE towns over just to get my job and be around decent makeup? â pearl moved whoeverâs items where on the chair before sitting down next to the other. â itâs just a travesty in my personal opinion.. no one was sitting here, right? whatever, i donât even care iâm just pissed off on how much gas iâm spending just to get to work. â
âBone Hill is a small town, itâs not going to have everything yâknow?â Jason shrugged his shoulders. He didnât get along too great with Pearl, if he was going to be honest. It wasnât that he didnât like her, it was just... Something about her that turned him off of her as a person. âAnd no, no one was sitting there but uh-- my stuff... My stuff was right there? Can I have it back? I was working on a paper for class, Pearl. I didnât exactly need the interruption.â
zionhqs::
âi think that some parents forget to exercise common sense,â zion remarks admittedly, â⊠however in their defence, sometimes these things just happen. i mean, some children are difficult to control and refuse to wait an hour or so before jumping back in. theyâre just full of energy and excitement.â âthatâs bad though⊠hope the janitor is okay and iâm glad you donât seem TOO repulsed. given â i think it shouldâve been something that the parents or guardian shouldâve cleaned up given the circumstance.â
âNo three year old has common sense, donât fool yourself, Zi,â Jason laughed as he leaned back in his seat. He knew that his friend was just trying to be nice about the situation, but it still... Was uncomfortable. And just wrong. Now by the end of the day, everyone might be talking about how the Johnsonâs kid threw up in the pool this afternoon. âIâm used to it at this point, honestly... Like, I think itâs at least twice a week at this point. Kids just... Are disgusting. Itâs making me very into the idea of never, ever having kids of my own. And the pool has tried that, the parents never do a great job though so... The janitors are forced to deal with it.âÂ
Now, it wasnât that Jason had a problem with Jake... Well, that was a lie actually, Jake was Jasonâs whole problem. If Jake just believed that Jason wouldnât say anything (which he wouldnât, because he liked living) then he could just continue his life without the fear of dying or being made an accomplice to crimes he took absolutely no part in. He hopped off his bike, because he only had a bike, in front of the place he thought that Jake lived and walked up to the door. He could already feel his heart pounding in his chest, his body felt hot, and his mind was already buzzing. He could already see himself tripping over his words while he tried to get through this conversation with Jake. Jason finally knocked on the door after what had felt like an eternity, only having been ten seconds though. âJake?â He called out, still unsure if this was where the man actually lived, or if this was just the home of one of his many victims that he had just seen him at once.

â§ă»ïŸ: * â âone downside about working in retail is the amount of clothing that ends up on the ground. like, these items are expensive, at least show a little respect.â devi sighed and set her coffee cup down on the table. she had a short break from the store and chose to spend it in the coffee shop, re-energizing so to say. waving off her troubles, she leaned forward. âenough about work, we need to go out tonight. no ifs, ands, or buts.â
âI-- that makes sense,â Jason just nodded curtly, not really knowing how to reply. He wasnât used to seeing Devi outside of the apartment building, usually they encountered each other in the mailroom. So frequently that it had Jason believing that she only existed within the confines of the mailroom. Like the ghost of the mailroom. But that made no sense, because he had bumped into her many times. âIâm sorry about that though, sounds really exhausting having to clean up after everyone. And uh-- I-- us? Really? We donât-- I mean I donât mind but like, I didnât think...â He trailed off, unsure of how to finish that sentence. Him and Devi hanging out? Was it opposite day?
âItâs all fun and games until a kid throws up in the pool,â Jason sighed heavily and stared down at his coffee. He had been let off work early because of another toddler related incident. Third time this week, it wouldâve actually bothered him if they didnât pay him for the hours he wouldâve worked, but his manager was generous and paid him double for the inconvenience. âItâs not even really a  problem for me, but like, the poor janitors at the pool  deserve better than that. You would think people would teach their children not to go swimming right after they ate but...â He shrugged. It wasnât really his problem after all.
have you seen kj apa around bone hill? oh, thatâs just jason iao novik, the twenty year old lifeguard. i hear he is gay. i also hear the trans male has been here for seven months. while they can be curious & sociable, itâs just as likely they can be indecisive & blunt. he seems to be hiding that he's been aiding and abetting a serious criminal. better keep an eye on them.
hey yâall iâm leo :) playing jason iao novik, a goofy and lovable somoan trans boy whoâs relatively new to bonehill, i got some little bullet points abt him for now but i def have some more to add later
jason iao novik is just a simple lifeguard, working at the local indoor poolÂ
heâs trans, but thatâs not All There Is To Him
will not hesitate to fight though if anyone asks him any invasive or shitty questions about being trans
heâs got some anger issues admittedly, he does have a difficult time controlling his anger and ends up straight up leaving situations sometimes so he doesnât end up hurting anyone
also has ADHD & Dyslexia, doesnât like to talk about it though
heâs taking night classes though, trying to get through community college
always smells like chlorine cause yâknow, lifeguard
heâs super, duper into all mythologies, all kinds heâs always reading about them
heâs studying ancient civilizations in college, he wants to become a history teacher :â)
he lives in a tiny studio apartment thatâs very lightly furnished, only the basics, like, if you walked in there youâd wonder if someone actually lived there
doesnât own a tv cause theyâre Too Expensive, just watches stuff on his computer
heâs not poor, but like, again you gotta wonder whatâs going on in this kids life, how does he afford a place to live and school while working as a lifeguard? itâs all student loans, heâs so broke guys
originally from LA, born and raised there
heâs been in bonehill for less than a year now, initially saying the reason he came was because he âneeded to get away from the chaos of the big cityâ
is that actually the reason though?
who knows?
he left LA cause he got kicked out by his uncle and bonehill was relatively cheap for him
about a month into getting to bonehill, he got entangled in some nasty stuff with a criminal and has been stuck helping said criminal out ever since
he really does not want to be helping them out but he doesnât like that his life was Threatenedâą
he likes living a lot
when heâs not studying or at work, heâs at the park or a coffee shop of some sort just reading, he really, really loves to read
jasonâs not much of a partier, he thinks parties get too loud, people get too drunk/high, itâs sensory overload for him, heâs much more fond of a quiet night in but if asked, heâll go to a party for the sake of a friend
but he definitely hasnât been seen at any parties in bonehill without looking extremely uncomfortable
thatâs it for now tho? there is definitely more to him but this is what i got for now :)
