BIOGRAPHY.

JASPER DAVID SINCLAIR was born in 1982 to his young single mother, HEATHER SINCLAIR, and grew up with her whilst living in THE BRONX. they were poor, but HEATHER was a loved member of her community, so the people around them supported them. JASPER’S childhood wasn’t perfect, but as an adult, he looks back on that early time as the happiest he had. it changed when JASPER was 13, and his mother met his step-father, DARYL. she tried to convince JASPER that DARYL was a positive addition to their lives, telling Jasper he could do with a ‘father figure’. JASPER’S relationship with DARYL was always strained, with JASPER dealing with puberty and suddenly growing taller than his step-father, who decided that as soon as he married HEATHER, he should immediately receive the respect of a parental figure. a respect JASPER did not believe DARYL had earned. they struggled to understand each other for years, but DARYL was never physical or threatening. he mostly whined to HEATHER about his unsuccessful attempts to parent JASPER. this all changed when JASPER was 17, and DARYL suddenly disappeared. JASPER was emotionally relieved but knew how much it hurt his mother to be treated so poorly, and abandoned by another man she loved. he did his best to support her, and after a few weeks, she seemed happier, starting to get over the ‘loser’ (JASPER’S words) that left them.
then, their home was raided by six men.
DARYL had been involved with loan sharks. when they demanded their money back with extortionate interest rates, DARYL skipped town. whether the sharks were frustrated by him slipping through their net, or they were just looking for someone to hurt… they found HEATHER and JASPER. they attacked and subdued JASPER, seeing him as an adult due to his size. three of them held him down and forced him to watch as they tortured, beat, and sexually assaulted his mother. they threatened to take out his eyes if he refused to watch, and cut JASPER’S face, opening his face across his cheek and into his hairline, to prove their point. it was only when a brave neighbour rang the police that they left in a hurry. HEATHER and JASPER were taken to the hospital, but HEATHER succumbed to her injuries and died. JASPER survived, but mentally and emotionally, he was never the same. his face had been stitched but in some strange act of self-harm, he cut and removed the stitches, forcing his wound to heal with a deep scar that would never fade. at the time, he was emotionally and mentally a complete mess and he wasn’t sure why he did it, but reflecting back on it in his adulthood, he wondered if it was his way of refusing to let go of what happened, a strange defiance of healing by choosing to be scared.
JASPER very nearly went completely off the rails. he was forced to live in the system for the remaining eight months until he turned eighteen. he started getting into fights in and out of school, and was almost kicked out of school. he got held back a year, but after he turned eighteen and was able to leave the system, neighbours who had been there for him and his mother growing up reached out, and gave him a place to stay, even if it was just a place to sleep on the floor and food to eat. JASPER knew he was in a bad way, and he managed to pull himself together and stay out of enough trouble to graduate high school a year late. whilst being questioned by adults on all sides about what he wanted to do with his life, he didn’t know how to answer them. previously, he had wanted go to college, to study literature, but now his goals had completely shifted. he could never tell any of the adults wanting to support him in living a good life despite his tragedy and trauma.
he wanted to kill the six men who had murdered his mother.
after high school, JASPER left a note to thank the family who had taken him in, and left. he didn’t want to drag them into his shit. in his search to try and find the six men, he walked into the underworld and a life of crime. at first, he was just an errand boy, desperate to find out who they were, trading favours for information. he was young, but he was strong and quick to learn. eventually, he stumbled across the man who would become his first mentor, SALVATORE. SAL was a hitman, a trained killer, and he wanted nothing to do with JASPER, but the kid was persistent. SAL relented, taught him, and took him in, as part of a strange bond. they were both too emotionally distant to become like father and son, but over the years... it did sort of happen. SAL took JASPER on his first trip abroad, to live in ITALY, which would begin JASPER’S life outside of the US. at first, he didn’t want to - he wanted those six men dead, and it was unlikely they would leave the US - but he gave in, knowing it was the only way to become the hitman SAL could make him.
from ITALY, JASPER went on to move around the european continent, and then into asia. FRANCE, SPAIN, RUSSIA, KOREA and JAPAN. JASPER learned how to kill in many various ways, picking up knowledge from others, and gained a reputation as a skilled, reliable and almost ruthless hitman. someone dubbed him THE WOLF - and it stuck. although JASPER himself too issue with the name (wolves live in packs whilst he was a loner, and the majority of his kills were from afar using guns and poison), but he knew the power a reputation had. by then, SAL had died a few years previously, of cancer. JASPER buried him in ITALY, in a small town in the south where SAL’S grandmother had lived before emigrating to AMERICA. following his death, JASPER would move a little closer to home, finding himself in MEXICO, where he tracked down and killed the first of the men on his list of six.
after that, it was a matter of finding the remaining five. the time he’d spent with SAL and living abroad, he’d grown patient. he’s taken his crippling grief, his incredible trauma, and his white hot rage and honed them all to be sharp, fine and controlled. with the money and connections he’d built over near fifteen years, he moved back to NEW YORK, and begun his search. he picked off two more off his list. he took paid contracts, which landed him crossing paths with KIANNA LOCKWOOD, boss to THE CAVEAT. the two struck a deal, with JASPER deciding to work for her, under the condition that the people on his list were his to kill, even if they tried to ally themselves with THE CAVEAT. JASPER also tracked down DARYL, and made him pay for his crime of cowardice. strangely, he found himself tracking down his biological father - a man who had an affair with his mother, HEATHER, and never knew of his existence. JASPER never revealed his true identity to him, and simply wanted to sate his curiosity. his father, HARRY, had a whole other family, including JASPER’S half-siblings, but JASPER had no interest in disturbing their peace.
five years since joining THE CAVEAT, JASPER has crossed off another name on his list, leaving two remaining. he’s on his way to discovering their identities, and once his does, taking their lives, regardless of the consequences. JASPER has no idea what his life will involve once his revenge, and his purpose for living, is finalised... he cannot see himself living a normal life with the sheer amount of blood on his hands and the enemies he has made over the years. he recently became a business owner (through less than legal means) of LIBRERIA CAFFE, a bookstore cafe and sister business to KIANNA’S PASTA LA VISTA, in STATEN ISLAND - in some ways, achieving his youthful dream of being involved with literature.
FACTS.
JASPER operates on his own moral code. he prefers to leave innocents unharmed, but he does find it easier to kill men. he cannot bring himself to harm children, or women... the only exception to that rule is women who have committed truly heinous crimes.
JASPER has a soft spot for animals - he enjoys feeding birds and local wildlife, and doing his best to take in strays, find them a home. he doesn’t discriminate between cats and dogs, and at any given time, he has at least one in his own home. at the moment, it’s a tabby cat named SHEBA.
JASPER loves food. he remembers his mother’s home-cooking - her dishes were nothing fancy, just simple, good food. ‘peasant dishes’, she called them. since then, JASPER has sought out the peasant dishes of all the countries he’s lived in. France, Italy, Germany, Korea, Mexico, Russia. they’re by far the most delicious, in his opinion.
