"is there like a psychological disorder for people lost in space without any of their friends?" even talking on the phone was different than face to face. as someone whose mother had a domain up there amongst the stars, even vesper didn't think he'd be that comfortable. "i can take a look at both. maybe i can spot something too, i know almost all of the constellations so i can help out that way. zodiacs are also my thing, so if she who shall not be named is channeling a specific one i can decipher some meeting." javier was respectable at least, so vesper would follow his lead.

"you know...you might be on to something? maybe he wasn't even like this before and has just gotten..well i don't know, i'm not a doctor! but yeah, i think it could definitely be something like that going on." still nodding as he thought it through, javi thought it entirely possible he'd have gone crazy by now. but somehow the thought that london wasn't actually that resilient, but had been driven insane instead--worse, that was a worse possibility. "okay, cool! let's go take a look under the hood." he waved vesper in the right direction. "it's not all up to code yet, though, just know that. not my fault."

javi was eccentric; he'd have totally fit in as a beach bum at the santa monica pier for sure. who knows, maybe when kelli returns they'd ask if he'd like to come along, maybe even show them how to roller blade along the boardwalk too. ❝ you're funny, dude. I really don't have much planned as of now. ❞ though that was more than likely gonna change later in the day, but now things were up in the air on the sole basis that no one usually got up this earlier for no reason. also they weren't going to say it out of fear of insulting them, but they really were concerned that javi might pass out on his way to get this thing, and no necessarily on his own volition. at the very least kelli could be there as a pretty plan b. ❝ so what do you say ? let me tag along ? ❞

"okay, perfect. i'm supposed to meet a courier a little ways out, so that can be your plan now too. should you choose to accept it." javi took exceptional pleasure with being called funny, but would take it in stride, too cool to even mention it. he had a little more pep in his step about it now too, having nice company and a belly full of sandwich. "okay, so there's a security gate out this way, we'll get a cart from there if you don't want to walk the whole time. it's just a short hike through the rest of these trees here and we'll come out on the access road." it's starting to seem like he's gotten a lot of packages this way.

it was one reason he had come back to camp though he didn't admit it to leo. the call of space beckoned him deep in his bones as if he was never really settled or at home unless he was up in the stars, skin glittering. before he had left to go on his honeymoon rhys had heard about this and it lingered in the back of his mind the whole time they were lying nude on beaches of bali. a quick flick of his wrist a he worked his husband over he managed to convince leo to come back knowing he would never be satisfied until he was able to help. "honestly it is more peaceful than lonely," rhys said softly as he looked at the lights on the cabin. "though i am unique and biased i have been told many times when it comes to space..." mostly by his husband who was very openly against rhys going into space due to movies he had seen. "that does seem off...it is why i wanted to come back. to help." turning his head to javi he let his eyes lock into the other's face as he said with the most confidence he had ever had in his life, "no one knows space here better than i do."

"wooo, if you say so, man!" javi couldn't imagine it himself, being so far from home all alone, floating in the ether. anything but peaceful, but then urania had never picked him up and rocked him among the stars like a big baby and whispered encouraging and loving things in his ear, so that was on him. "i can believe the bias, i know i damn sure ain't got it. but we're happy to have you! it's rhys, right?" he had a vague memory of seeing the guy around at some point in the last decade, not that he'd been close with many acquaintances for most of it. he was stilled by the locked gaze and confident statement, eyes widening with a solumn nod. "i believe you, big guy. you wanna see the set up? talk to london? urania is up there reading minds, so i was thinking it might be good to keep our plans a surprise until we're ready to spring them."

"do you think he really doesn't care or it's been so long that he's just detached from everything?" vesper couldn't begin to wonder what that would be like. he shook his head, not being able to be chill about being stuck in space alone. "the fact that he even has a job where here he probably didn't work is wild. i hope he's at least enjoying it and not doing it for people that clearly didn't care about him." he shouldn't gossip about the same people he lived with, but oh well. they should listen in on this. "okay so keep him in the dark long enough where she's not going to be able to pry."

"see, that's the thing. i don't really know. maybe it's both." javi tried to work it out another moment in his head, but it kept coming out to the same. it certainly wouldn't be that way for him, either, he'd have been freakin out by now. "i think he might be enjoying it, does it for all of us. pero we're here to care about him now, regardless. you want to see the set up? or map of the place? maybe you'll have a good idea we can keep from him and it won't be all on me to come up with." that aspect particularly worried him; he had no track record for genius plans on his own.

❝ that's pretty bitchin', dude. glad I could help out then. ❞ huh, a sandwich saving the day; that's a new one. then again, stranger things have happened on these grounds. ❝ oh so that's you over there; that center hasn't been used in ages. could certainly be useful to camp again in recent light of events. might need a good pressure washing though but all that can come afterwards. ❞ poor thing seemed so sleepy, but aside from those who gained affinity in the first rays of light coming along the horizon, most would be. kelli wasn't sure if javi even knew what they looked like based on how heavy their eyes were. ❝ definitely godliest for me; kind of a parental bonding thing ... uh, do you want some help getting this part ? I have nothing but time at the moment. ❞ also they were scared javi may pass out en route to getting this piece of equipment.

"yes, exactly, that's the goal of the hour. thank you." javi had been surprised to see the place deserted and left behind in time, but was actually really excited to set it right. fixing that sloppy file naming system (that had things just randomly named dioson6, dioson7, dioson304, for example) had been a great start to the project and gave him a sense of confidence that he could fix the rest. "well, that's very kind of you to offer, but i feel like i should see it through myself." javi stopped short and shook his head. "regretted that immediately, how about i go back to the crib and catch a few more winks and you...? yeah? you will?" he stared back with wide eyes now for a few long seconds, then burst into laughter. "just kidding! i can manage." he slapped himself in the face and jumped straight in the air a few times. "okay i'm good! you good? oh, was you just looking for something to do and wanted to tag along?"

"wait, how long has he been up there for? that must be pretty uncomfortable for him to go through all of it alone." vesper wasn't involved in almost anything mission related while at camp, but he started having dreams about battles in space and decided to seek javier out. he was impressed by the light show too. his gaze followed the window, waving over to the gingerbread gf. "what do you suggest that we do now? go out looking for him or just talk to him?"

"that's what i said! it's almost like he doesn't care! it's a trip, man, you should hear him." javi laughed incredulously, shaking his head at the absolute mad lad. "it's been months, i know that much. he's just like doing a day job in an office up there, basically. and they're just letting him do it. probably because he's working for free. well, maybe, i don't actually know that part." he hadn't looked into payroll, but made a note to. "i think we come up with a plan, but don't tell him. just let him know what to do and on what cue. because she'll read his mind."

instantly, they can tell this is a hypnos demi; sleepiness is universal at this our, but there's something about a sleepy hypnos demi, as they seem to be able to function at an almost normal capacity while being the furthest from being awake, at least in kelli's experience. before they even bother to speak again, the dawn child lets them wake just a bit more, handing them a piece of their delicious sandwich in hopes that it does the trick. ❝ by all means, have at it. ❞ not to brag, but they know their breakfast hits a different kind of way. lips upturn with a gleeful grin at javi's reaction. ❝ I know right ? lowkey what I look forward to when I burst up at the most ungodliest hour. hopefully it helps you get to where you need to go ... you do have somewhere to go, right ? ❞ not to assume but, there had to be a reason for a sleep-bound demi to be up this early.

"that sandwich just saved my life. and possibly the life of someone else as well. he's depending on me and you're making it all possible." it really didn't even sound like he was joking, entirely possible that javi would take exceptional breakfast foods that seriously. especially when he had something actually important to do. "i'm rebuilding this old command center we have, and i need something they could only deliver at the most ungodliest hour. or...godliest...in your case, right?" he too, had a sense about the other, even with his eyes mostly closed.

the urge to climb along the top of the tallest tree and watch the reddist ball of fire that kept their galaxy warm and lit come from the abyss of night. but luckily the sky was clear enough to see it along the border of which the horizon is visible. as a child of the goddess of the dawn, kelli kinda thought of this as bonding time with their dearest mom, and a good explaination why they were the first person to get up in camp. yep, just him, his breakfast sandwich with orange juice, his booty shorts, and the rising sun ... oh, and the person coming from behind. ❝ hey there ! hope I'm not in your way; everyone's usually catching z's about now. breakfast sandwich ? ❞ a kind offering of half of their delicacy.

"way..? no and no... z's..." javi actually had definitely been asleep until about 2 minutes ago, and on some level he still was. he had to accept a special delivery this morning, though, and promised himself he would be there on time. he let himself sleepwalk there, though. "sorry. still sleep." he scrubbed a hand over his face, still plodding along. "this is everyone's way, you're fine. wait--wait, i can have that?" belatedly, he realized there was food on offer, something he hadn't planned into his morning rush, and his stomach was reminding him right now as he reached for the delicious looking sandwich. biting in immediately, he just nodded, humming and licking his lips, letting his eyes fall closed again. "oh that's good shit. nothing's ever hit the spot like this."

"and he's just been up there, like all this time, no help, consoles dusty; that don't seem off to anybody else?" javi had just finished his part of the lights out in front of the cabin, where he'd programmed a light to project across the front with whatever they wanted, but currently shone a gingerbread house filter onto it. there was even a gingerbread gf you could see in one of the false windows. "like there's no way he's that comfortable out in space all alone, not a single ally?"

due to the cold not bothering nathan, he didn't bundle up as intensely as most others, so his dark red leather jacket did enough to seem like he was keeping warm - if you asked him. but the sudden cold sure had surprised him even. it .. was comfortable, though - a little homey. unlike the damn boreas cabin.

"i mean, there's harnesses to keep you from dying. hurts, though, for sure, but don't all lessons?" training in camp jupiter had been ..brutal. relentless. merciless. maybe that was the reason the inhabitants of both camps were so different in nature. he'd seen a girl chew bubblegum with an open mouth earlier. nobody seemed to mind. "i think it's exciting. i suppose asking you to race me's in vain?" the other didn't exactly look like he was ...game.

javi looked at nathan like he was stupid or crazy. "it's 2023, man! nothing has to hurt." he shook his head some more, grumbling under his breath in spanish about all this misinformation out here, smh. still, there was a small part of him that wondered if he could. "okay, but you can't gloat when you win, promise?" said earnestly, javi did not expect to win and didn't want to have to beat this guy down for any slick comments. or at least that's what he told himself about what he just didn't want to hear.

winter had taken over camp in a quick stride. he got here a few days before, had seen the first signs, but nothing could've prepared him for the cold winds that sucked the last breaths out of vegetation within camp walls. the cold didn't matter to him, it didn't mess with him personally, but he did usually feel ... melancholic to see the world stand still underneath a layer of ice in the winter. after a quick trip to the garden to find it somewhat lifeless, nathan had given in to the pull to check out the most likely.... most impressive building in camp. it reached so high, nathan could swear one could ascend to the heavens up there.

but it was even more impressive to watch it work. gears turned & areas all but changed entirely. "fascinating, ...isn't it? you ever tried it?"

javier was no stranger to melancholy in the winter, and this new cold front had made everything feel desolate every time he stepped outside. generally, he hadn't, but then had ran out of cereal and it was an emergency. now he was hustling back with three bags full, snugged in a big grey parka.

"not in a long time. it was more like back when they had to make up shit for us to do? now there's a bunch of real life challenges, right? actually life or death." as if to say the snow agreed with him, he pointed all around to it.
