so how about arthur getting pissed bc he keeps getting too little food on his plate and he keeps shouting at merlin but then one day he’s out while merlin is fetching his dinner and he sees him giving scraps of meat and bread to the orphans who hang around the kitchens and he’s just like (｡♥‿♥｡)

or alternatively, he notices that merlin has lost a lot of weight and is even skinner than usual and he makes fun of him for it bc “you get two meals a day as a palace servant merlin only you could still look like a twig” until that day where he sees merlin giving away all his food to orphans and again he’s like (｡♥‿♥｡)

okay but consider: Arthur notices Merlin feeding the orphans and starts ordering larger and larger meals to ensure that everyone gets adequately fed. Merlin continues to feed the orphans, however, to the detriment of himself and sometimes Arthur, until finally Arthur has to sit him down and explain that he is going to ask the cook to set up a distribution system for the entire Lower Town so can Merlin please eat something ffs and Merlin looks at him like (｡♥‿♥｡)

Or how about Arthur sets up the distribution system, but realizes that the only way to ensure Merlin is eating properly would eat is if Arthur sits Merlin down everyday and feeds him himself. Arthur maybe complaining desperately about stupid, idiotic manservants, that have zero self_preservation while feeding Merlin lovingly, but Merlin knows what’s up and is all 😍
