How do you like being single so far?

Actually, I’m really enjoying it. For years I have feared being single, but there’s freedom in not expecting to see someone, and not hoping that a special someone will notice your haircut or cologne. I look good and smell good for myself now, I make dinner for myself now. My smiles come completely detached from the actions of another person. I can do anything I want, and I don’t have to doubt how someone feels for me. It’s quite sobering to manage my time without having to worry about how I never see someone I love. I’m working six days a week and going to school, yet I’ve still had time for family and friends. Relationships are extremely draining, even if they’re happy. Heck, they are especially draining and time depriving if you’re happy when you’re together. I’m closer to more people, and get to kiss anyone I like, I get to get drunk with my friends, and say whatever I feel or think without having to submit to the humor frame of a lover. I can buy candles with scents I like, listen to bands I want to listen to, dress how I feel like it, and have any fantasies I please. Yes! I mean, why didn’t anybody tell me being single was this great? Sure, I’ve always dreamed that I could be one hundred percent myself with someone else, but that has yet to be the case. I can’t bring all my quirks on the table without being nipped to their ideal, you know? People eventually want you to be satisfying to their needs, even if they love your quirks at first. They always end up with some critique, like they’re the god damn political columnist for the Times and you’re the fucking secretary of state. Being intimate can be too much of a magnifying glass for me to allow it for extended periods of time.

Positive people also have negative thoughts. They just don’t let those thoughts grow and destroy them.

4 am thoughts

I totally get that we are human and imperfect beings. But I'm really starting to see clearly of how sickening envy and jealously can be. People want to act out or speak out but at the end of the day their thoughts are what need some restraining. I really need to just keep to myself because my mother raised me peacefully.
