Hugelkultur in a Raised Bed (Results after 2 Years)
These are the raised beds that I transformed with hugelkultur a couple of years ago. I also give a few tips and tricks which makes my gardening efforts easier, more effective AND uses less water!
Hugelkultur Course 🌱 Wood to Use vs Not to Use
This is a short video from my hugelkultur course on Youtube. Make sure to avoid certain woods that will inhibit the growth of your garden!
Hugelkultur Course 🌱 Introduction and Outline
Welcome to my free course on these raised garfden beds. I love building them and seeing them eat up a ton of green waste! Share it around so more people know about them!
Hugelkultur Course )) Downsides ) Weeds Gone Wild
I did this short video about a negative part of hugelkultur raised beds. When you completely dig out and disturb the soil completely, it signals the weeds to spring up and start healing and repairing the damage.
It is a fact that I am learning as I study more Soil Science, especially from Elaine Ingham.
A fantastic guide to hugelkultur raised beds.
I highly suggest this form of raised bed garden. Though it takes some effort to build, it will last for decades and can be planted on immediately.
Look up Your Community Gardens
I’ve rented two community garden plots in the past couple of months. I urge everyone to search out your local ones. My plots were abandoned, but had good soil. One was 65$ a year and one was $31 a year. You can be isolated on them and are on the essential list. Look up no-dig and go for it.
Some useful images to get you started down the hugelkultur raised garden path!
A thorough explanation of no-dig gardening and the soil food web. Check it out!
The key is to start with at least four inches (10 cm) of good compost. Feed the soil from above instead of disturbing the balance of life with digging.
Large scale initiatives in Ethiopia are restoring barren landscapes.
Found this awesome demonstration hugelkultur with a cutaway to show its innards!
JBro Gardening: Don't be afraid to densely pack your seeds together. They do fine and you get more veggies! Just be sure you don't have high plants blocking the sun to the low plants (unless the low plants are low sun).
Inspiring Woman Growing a Huge Amount of Food in a Tiny Backyard
An amazing urban gardening effort using permaculture tactics on a small plot. Check iit out and share!
When we focus on feeding and improving the soil, our food crops can’t help but grow well. No dig and permaculture are what I’m studying. We can recycle “green waste” to grow our topsoil.
The Case for Cardboard
A great pro and con video about using cardboard for organic. no till farming. I think I might find another community garden plot and try it out!
