ngl i “finished” a week early and then just forgot to update. but this is an  functioning simple skin !! so while i did skip out on putting too much effort on fixing macros, tables(cause idk wtf those are), and other tiny jcink coding things, i was mostly going to customizing the jcink default skin enough to make it my own which i’ll take as a win

im most displeased with the forum rows so that’ll def be the thing i work on future skin projects if i even continue. so that’s all!! my first jcink skin journey ends here for now

It was also templates week for TDTN! Not much to say here either, tbh? There’ve been some edits as the commissioners went through it, but I’m not gonna go grab all the different changes, especially when some are really small (like accent color changes).

July 2020 Skinathon - RW&M Update #4

Well, we’ve made it! This is the final week of skinathon and, while I got TDTN done first (just waiting on approvals and such before I take final screenshots and post that update!), I’ve just gotten RW&M done too! This week was Jcink defaults and templates. It took a lot to get some of the pieces to work properly, but I’m really happy with how it turned out. I tossed on my toggling control panel menu sections on it, as well as both Nicole’s code box and styled tooltips for some finishing touches, and I really like the templates for this one. They’re kinda super cute, in my opinion, especially the comms being sideways instead so it fits the skin better!

Anyway, check back soon for an official sales post that’ll have an image collection which is more encompassing for all parts of the skin, and anyone with a reserve - reach out again and we can discuss the packages available to you!

jcink skinathon: week three

i’m behind on posting the week’s updates because i was behind on coding them L O L ha ha ha,,, and I will be late on week 4, too, because im going out of town for a long weekend in the woods. whatever - the Big Things are done, and now it’s details and templates and trying to make it not look garbage on mobile. 

so: what have i done since our last update?

I did the member list, which has too much space and i don’t like it and will probably redo it

I also coded the tooltip for triggers in the postrow… and uhhhh lmao that’s all i’ve done this week OOPS

CHOKE (WIP) ─  skinathon 2020

week three:  header, topbar, stats.

Been staring at this header for faar too long. It has the same glass texture that the other containers do on the forum (form rows, etc) and as you scroll it breaks to a grainy textured background of the same image. I’m in love with the stats (thanks again Juliet, so so much!) even tho they were a challenge trying to fit it in such a height restricted container. Idk why I did that to myself, I just thought it was appealing and I really didn’t want a massive space there with the dropdown. which is super super simple and possibly not done?? gave it that fleck of color because it felt right and i plan to style my tooltips to help accent the admin hovers, but. yeah. this is it for now!

more struggling happened, but it wasn’t so bad this time!  this week i managed to get the topic rows, post row & mini profile, and the member list completed, though i’m considering making some changes to the mini profile and the member lists. (mainly bc i’m indecisive rip.) but like, she’s coming along !!!!  anyways, i’m actually … p happy with how this turned out and i’m hoping this flow continues when i go to finish up the rest of the skin next week!!

So I started working on one skin for skinathon and then inspiration for this one hit - based on a plot I carry on with a friend of mine.

Mobile is a bit of a mess (I’ll have to work on that….later) but as of right now, this is a fun passion project that I am adoring.

July 2020 Skinathon - RW&M Update #3

By some small miracle (and a late night), I have managed to finish what I needed to get done this week to stay on track before leaving for my weekend getaway. This week for RW&M was main profiles and member lists - and yes, those are plural for a reason. I’ve decided that I’ll sell this as preset “packages”. Each will have instructions for how to expand upon the sections (e.g., what to use where and for what purposes), but I will not be customizing the features available in the packages for each purchaser. I will still offer set-up services as per my price list, but otherwise it will be a “what you see is what you get” sort of deal (plus any bug fixes that may be needed, obviously). Details on this are below the cut!

jcink skinathon

week one, redone.

i wasn’t satisfied with the way the elements looked on the page for week one, so i decided to spend some time redoing them, even though it set me back considerably. i have a hard time pushing forward if i don’t have the general feel mapped out, so this was necessary to keep moving, even if it took time away. 

the new background considerably darkens the feel, but i still plan on having a white background for the topics and posting, so hopefully that will keep things bright, even with the loss of all the color. it’s definitely easier on the eyes, which is a big plus.

i have the concept for the ucp & the use of the av in the header, which i think will look really nice. finish those, and finish the general styling of the header (fonts, font color, etc) and then next up is the forums and the stats, and if i can get those done fast enough, the profile. i plan on using the new template for the pop out headers because they’re so, so gorgeous, but we’ll see how well it works out. ✌️

everything does feel a little weighted to the left because of the positioning of the elements, so i’ll have to figure out a way to balance everything before i move on.

July 2020 Skinathon - Flicker Beat Update #3

My goal was this and RW&M tonight but I’m not sure I’m getting through RW&M’s stuff all tonight. My internet decided to go out for a few hours which made it… difficult at best. But! Made it through all the stuff I wanted for Flicker Beat at least, which included the Jcink defaults (ew, row4) and the member list! We’re adding a filter feature, so only some of the fields work right now on the basis of members having not added details for their characters yet, but soon!

jcink skinathon: week two

this week started on a blursed note: #blessed, I’ve been playing with my neighbor every day after the Howl (colorado’s weird version of clapping for essential workers); #cursed, my reading glasses fell off my head during simon says and my replacement pair hasn’t arrived in the mail yet. 

this week i decided to do post row, mini profile, and main profile. 

the thing abt post row and miniprofile is that they are easy enough to design and get functional, but all the detail shit is such a pain. like i fully expect this shit to break lmao but here we are and it… seems okay…..

Triggers are a hover with triggers in the tooltip, a thing I need to style HA HA. also that nav strip,,,, nearly fucking killed me

I’m pretty happy with this - I wish I could get the hover to only happen on hovering over the image rather than the entire mp panel, but I haven’t been able to manage it, so I will probs leave it. 

while fretting abt main profile design I hammered out a new format for our canon list, hoping to make it easier to spell out and see family connections. I like the idea of making this a webpage but I want to minimize New Things for Members to Get Used To, so this will be in our existing canon list thread. maiden names link to the character’s birth family on the list, so people will better be able to keep track of cousins or what the fuck ever. 

I am not looking forward to making the transfer but I am looking forward to it being done lmao. 

and finally, main profile! I…. cannibalized my postrow design. listen, fam, i’m barely any good at coding. do not ask me to be inventive. i do not have the skill for it rn. 

I talked to my staff abt if we wanted to give this more bells and whistles. We didn’t want to add more images/profile fields and have profiles look incomplete if their writer can’t be fucked with updating things. our current skin’s profile has two images but I don’t mind eliminating one, and having members put all their Good Image efforts into avs. 

anyway I like how this is coming along! thing is I keep forgetting I haven’t styled the forum row yet so when I go into forums I CRINGE in HORROR. 

also, everything looks DISGUSTING on mobile, but I decided to make that a problem for Future JB

week two:  forum row(s), topic row, member list.

I’m like half a week behind in everything I think, but we’re just gonna keep powering through. The claims, development, communication, etc. forums are two column and the default are the longer ones. Wanted the announcements to be slightly different than the rest but not too crazy, so yay extra borders. I might adjust the member profile so it’s sortable─but I don’t hate it as is so maybe not!

week two

so im behind a week on the skinathon thanks to some health problems, but back in action with my fourm rows, i plan to eventually get black and white photos in there and actually fill everything out. current images are just place holders i fiddled with for too long and gave up on. this is my first experience with side by side forums, editing them each based on id, and using a full background image so just going to have to see where it takes me. im going to eventually try and fill out each category accordingly when i get around to using this skin but this would be all the welcome info stuff, member area and registration. currently don’t have an area for sub-forums but i might add that in.
