Small fry
Hey, does anyone else have sensory issues with frying food, or being in a kitchen with someone frying food and the icky sticky way you feel from the grease floating around in the air that coats your neck, body and your clothing? I avoid frying things myself, as I hate how I feel afterwards, and feel like I need to shower and put fresh clothes on…. 😦
Yes 1000× yes. Any cooking, even when the oven is on... 😑
Clear waters of an Alaskan stream
“Ghost Apples” in the Fruit Ridge area of Kent County, Michigan.
An unusual phenomenon when freezing rain coats rotting apples before they fall, the apple turns mushy and eventually slips out, leaving the icy shell still hanging on the tree.

There’s something inherently exhausting in the phrase “I work with autistic children” because you know whatever the fuck is going to come after that is incredibly wrong and ableist.
I’m an autistic adult who works with autistic children and honestly the whole system is a joke. My job is to ‘control’ the autistic children and get them to join the class and sit nicely and if they don’t join in I have to send them to sit on a chair. They’re 4-5 years old. If the system was actually to HELP autistic children it would be different, but all it is is to make the children act as neurotypical as possible and to try and train their ND traits out of them to make them ‘easier to deal with’. Every aspect of my job is offensive and downright oppressive and although I try my best to treat these children the way they should be treated I’ll lose my job if I let them stim or info dump or do anything that healthy passionate autistic children do that isn’t sitting nicely and shutting up.
I’m leaving my job because of different living circumstances but also because I just can’t deal with the comments from other teachers like “their poor parents” “I just don’t know how to deal with the autistic ones” “they’re just so difficult” “their parents shouldn’t be sending them here”. I would most likely be fired if I came out as autistic there. A previously incredible autistic 4 year old boy who was full of energy, very affectionate, extremely intelligent and so very passionate about marine biology started showing up asleep in his mother’s arms. He stopped taking part in any games and never wanted to talk about his special interest anymore. All interest in anything completely stopped. He was just dead behind the eyes and would just lie down on the floor and refuse to get up because he was so exhausted. He couldn’t even sit up but my boss kept coming in and yelling at me for letting him lie down because it ‘wasn’t fair on the other children’. I then found out from my boss and the boy himself that he’s been put on sedative medication to make him ‘easier to deal with’ and this just broke me. I cried in the car all the way home. He’s 4.
AUTISTIC PEOPLE ARE NOT BROKEN.
Is banging your head against something (cause it feels good) exclusively an autistic thing?
I don’t think so no. But from what I know it is something that some autistic people tend to do, especially when they are young or close to a meltdown. Though not exclusively that.
Hahaha
