Based on our scouting in January, we returned to Death Valley in early March to enjoy this year's strong wildflower bloom. It's going to take months if not years to process all of the photos

The Pogonip ice fog was effectively blocking the light of the rising sun, while receiving light from the blue sky above. Sometimes developing a photo is a bit like opening up a present. The camera doesn't quite "see" a scene like we do, but when you restore shadow and highlight detail, the emotional response you had to a stunning moment returns, if only in some fraction of the original amount.
