yes i know haha funny joke its not that deep, and there are instances where i agree

but welcome to my tangential ted talk about how sometimes humans use the phrase 'i dont know' to prevent having to think about things.

i tell my students how much i h8 that phrase and i never want to hear it in my office. if i ask why bronchitis is an obstructive disease and all i get is 'i dont know' im going to tell u to try again, bc i see that my students have gotten so used to saying 'i dont know' to get an immediate answer, instead of coming to a conclusion themselves and subsequentially truly understanding the material. i always make it very clear that my office is a no-judgement zone safe space and i'd rather have my students think for a minute and come up with a wrong answer so that i cant guide them towards the correct one.

in therapy context, when asked 'why did you get angry?' then no, 'i dont know' is not an answer. let's think about it, determine precipitating factors, and try to understand ourselves so we can actually put forth change.
