Can i just say how fucking wonderful it is that Matt fucking Mercer created a world where sex work is respected as a legitimate job

Like we have the companions at the various inns that the M9 visit, and they’re treated like the hospitality workers they are. No jokes at their expense, all humor is derived from the players actions (Fjord being the awkward roommate and not knowing what to do after giving Molly and his companions privacy, Molly’s “surprise me” and bold entrance after they were finished, Beauregard not even realizing that “her” is a preference). No one hates on the workers.

And then we have Marion Lavorre. The Ruby Of The Sea. Sailors sing songs about her. She is respected and loved and adored by so many. And she deserves it. In the Lavish Chateaux, she’s in charge. She controls her clientele, her business. People come to see her on her terms. She is beautiful and talented and charismatic, all traits we know are important in her line of work. But Matt shows the side of sex work that most media doesn’t acknowledge. That it’s a complex art form, a kind of therapy that requires empathy and insightfulness, all of which Marion shows when meeting the M9. And how do they treat her? With awe and love and respect. She’s jesters mom, a great mom, and a revered sex worker. And when her safety is threatened in her line of work, what do the M9 choose to do? Take care of the asshole making her unsafe. Not once do they blame her or her profession, they simply make her job safe again.
