shes spectacular
I think, in a year+, the next dog im going to get is a dual purpose lab from a local responsible breeder
I feel an immense guilt for adopting and then rehoming benny, I wasn't ready for him and my life quickly fell apart not long after taking him home
it wasn't fair to either of us to go through that
so basically, to make it right, my next dog im going to make as responsible of a choice as possible by researching even more so, having a dog savings, and purchasing a breed I want with a temperament that fits my life from a trustable breeder near me
ive always had a love for labs, the dog I grew up with was a chocolate lab from the shelter
I dont prefer show lines visually but I do like their temperament, and i dont have the right lifestyle for a field/hunting line though I prefer their build; thus a dual purpose/mixed line lab.
I actually found a breeder very close to me who specializes in dual purpose labs that can perform as pets, hunting dogs, and or sport dogs
they do all the health testing and proving required before producing a litter. im going to reach and get to know them if possible so when the time comes, im as prepared as possible to bring home a puppy
here's a question for dogblr since I dont trust dog people anywhere else
how would yall recommend i go about connecting/reconnecting with my dog as her handler (as opposed to her "dad" or owner)
I love my jelly dog to pieces but I feel theres a disconnect between us as handler and dog and I want to bridge that as much as possible
I already have access to a trainer if I need one but its not something I can easily afford rn so id prefer if the advice was geared towards diy methods and learning
thank you!!
something I see on fb groups a lot is people with 4-5+ dogs asking people to match them a breed or whatever, (essentially looking to add another dog to an already fairly sized pack)
like, do you really need another dog???
thereotically, being a dog hobbyist sounds really fun
realistically however
Not what I usually post but look at that wawa go!
ermm...
I feel like people get so stuck on the idea of how special their dog and their twenties is. And there is something to be said for the fact that it's usually your first dog that's truly yours. But more often than not I see that cause people to be afraid that they will never be as attached to another dog again. And I'm here to tell you, that first dog is usually the hardest.
While you can say a lot for how special it is to have that first dog, there is nothing like knowing more and being able to do better with your next dog. A lot of times, the Rose Colored Glasses that come with a person's first dog can cause folks to not learn more or do better with the second one. Your second one is your chance to have everything that you wanted with your first dog and didn't know enough to have. It's your chance for a better bred dog, to build better foundations, and to set both of you up for success.
If that first dog in your twenties is your ride or die, your second dog and your 30s is going to be the one that's with you against the world. I can look at my dog in my 30s and know that we've got this.

it’s a really rough day at work with a lot of dogs with behavioral issues that can’t be resolved so I would looooove to see people’s tanks or terrariums or cats or just whatever you have 🧡
I would kill to be these bugs
