Final Thoughts on Tumblr

This has been the most different project/assignment I have done throughout my degree so far. At the start of the course it seemed like a massive challenge to have to post 3 times per week, but in fact it was a good way to keep up with the course readings and weekly tasks. The reason being is that it made you sit down and actually take time to reflect on the topic rather than just read the readings and chapters for the sake of it.

I found each topic rather interesting, some more than others. I was realising that I was finding some topic more interesting than others because I felt differently to what I guess the media portrays and wants you to believe. So for me those topics really hit home and i was able to connect with them more deeply.

I think this project has added value to my understanding of this paper by being able to connect with some of the topics more than I would have by just reading course notes. I do however regret with some weeks when I have been busy with other uni work that I haven't found very strong postings. Overall I have tried my best and feel as though it has helped me greatly in understanding adolescents and their on going development.

Therefore, as teens' emotional maturity increases their relationships with their peers change as they become more vulnerable and emotionally intimate with their peers.

Thought this was a nice summary of peers and the pressure that adolescents are under constantly just to fit in and be socially accepted. Its so sad to hear of some of the extremes some adolescents need to go through to fit in and be accepted these days, but somehow I think it is only going to get worse. With the likes of social media, television and the media there are so many images and perceptions of what you ought to be these days.

Peers

It has been discussed from Santrock, 2014 that adolescent is the time where the developing individuals place a greater importance on being socially accepted and liked from their peers. During this time they spend a great deal of time with their peers and it is very important for them to be able to interact with others their age. Because of this it can lead to either happy feelings of being included or discouragement and negative feelings due to being left out. During this time in adolescent it is also discussed that parents can play a huge role in aiding positive peer relationships which leads to positive development

Peer pressure during the adolescent years is a massive influence on why some children act out and rebel when they otherwise were quite sensible. These days because of the likes of social media and the internet playing such a huge part in the raising of children peer pressure is probably even greater than what it would have been 20 years ago. Now there is such a added pressure to look and do things a certain way as that's what they all see on the internet, facebook and through all the different social media sites.

Strengthening Families is a way of bringing together all the people and agencies who could help your family. Together you discuss your family's needs and agree on what everyone is going to do.

I never knew resources like this were available in New Zealand but it looks like a great tool for families who need a bit more support and help within the family unit. A great easy to use website where families can go to access the right tools and applications to help them towards creating a stronger and more happier family bond.

This is great and again includes the perception from each party the expectations.  As a mother, I expect and adore when my children are happy and interacting with each other in a positive way.  One of my favourite photos of my children is at my sisters wedding when they were  approximately 7 and 5, the photo looks like they are adoring each other and looking into each others eyes, however, I remember the moment well, they were fighting with each other and one had grabbed the others head in anger……

Love this!! A good humorous spin on siblings and fighting. Me and my brother had massive fights growing up, this is so how we would have seen things!! Thankfully now we have a great relationship.

I love this, I am a huge believer in the importance of sitting together as a family at the end of the day and discussing our day, worries, good news etc. It is one of my strict rules for my husband and four children and I love watching the conversations and excitement around the table.

Here is an article from New Zealand research of 9000 secondary school students. The statistics agree with the rest of the world. The family meal time can impact mental health and the family unit. It is time to meet together for meal. And again tomorrow you might just enjoy the family you are eating with.

Couldn't agree more with this!! While I was growing up we had dinner at the table as a family every single night, no television, no phones just the family eating a meal together. I'm now coming up 26 years old and when ever we go home for dinner its ate at the table full of conversation, laughter and good food. I think that everyone coming together at the end of the day to share a meal that's not in front of the television and full with distractions is the best for a family unit. Growing up is it is a great way to help enhance children conversation skills and get them talking and even still now its a great way to see what everyone has been up to for the day and enjoy each others company.

Sometimes there isn't a wrong or right way its just the path you choose to take and sometimes that path can lead you into greater things than even imaginable. However with morals behind you, you are able to think decisions through and choose the right path for you. Morals help with reasoning and help with decision making.

I find it very saddening that this is the culture we live in or that inlay lived in. Im my opinion sexual assault should never be normalised and the phenomoena of victim blamming is relation to rape is loathsome.

This is so sad to read cause its so true! I couldn't agree more with what this quote is saying. In a way our culture these days is allowing this horrible behaviour to be the normal while the poor victims suffer forever.

This is a brief look into morals in adolescents I personally think that parents naturally as their children grow up in list morals into their children even if they didn't mean to. It can be a natural or scripted purpose. Sadly some children are growing up in environments where morals are not idealistic

This is horrific. As it is a touchy subject, along with suicide, self harm, etc we are not educated about this topic. This should definitely be talked about in schools!

These are horrific statistics and definitely something that needs addressing, as long as I can remember I have seen comments everywhere contradicting themselves, one the one hand victims of sexual assault are told to come forward, to report the crime however on the other hand so many who do become forced to relive their horrific experience over and over again with often little result and the perpetrator walking free. Also the blame is so often put on the woman “oh well did you see what she was wearing? She is so flirty! Well she shouldn’t have been out alone! She shouldn’t have been drinking”. We should be teaching our teenagers that sexual assault is wrong no matter what the person was wearing or did, that it does happen, that there is no excuse.

I cant even imagine what it would be like to be going through all the changes in adolescence within your developing body to then add in a pregnancy as well! It would be so hard to deal with emotionally, physically and socially. For some adolescence that do get them selves pregnant during these years and become young parents they have great support and sometimes turn there life around because of the situation, others however go the other way, which is so sad. Pregnancy is such a huge time in life even when your ready for it and its planned. The changes that it brings upon your body and your emotions is massive so I couldn't imagine having to deal with that in these young years.

Gender Stereotypes are impressions and beliefs about males & females. It is societies way of telling the different sexes who they are and how they should behave. Women for instance, especially models and pin ups are often depicted as big bosomed, big haired and beautiful. This is just a funny reminder that no one should take life so seriously and a reminder to appreciate the people around you, for who they are.

This made me laugh!! So true about the way society tells the different sexes who they are and how they should behave!! Women are always in next to nothing outfits and are photographed like these men every day and we see these images everywhere. Young girls then strive to have to be like the girls in the photos yet you don't see men in these kind of photos. Super funny way to showcase gender and stereotypes!!
