“Well, there’s a bit of a rush. We don’t want your coffee to get cold after all,” Jenna said with a small smile. She handed him a packet of sugar and continued to refill his container. “It’s nice to officially meet you, Atlas. I’m Jenna. I have seen you more than few times in here. Work nearby?”

Atlas smiled at the young woman, chuckling softly at the humor of her statement.  “You’re right, I stand corrected.”  Adding the sugar to his coffee he gave it a stir before taking a small sip.  “Ahh, perfect.  It’s nice to meet you as well Jenna.”  Taking another sip of his coffee he chuckled.  “You could say that.  That’s my practice,” he said, pointing to the second story over the cafe.

The sound of his chuckle was warm and velvety... like music to the ear. His smile at her humor was inviting and made her feel okay for talking with him. “Good coffee is always perfect... especially first thing in the morning when you’re still groggy and stumbling around your apartment.” When he pointed to the second story, her lips formed a knowing “o”. “You’re the shrink... I just figured most shrinks were old and creepy looking.”

Old Ways

As she finished up her set with a song that she had written as a way to channel her hopes and dreams, Jenna blew a kiss to the audience and made her way off stage. After a quick stop in the dressing room to change back into her regular clothes, tight jeans and a backless halter top, she headed to the bar for a drink before she went home. Ordering a Dirty Shirley Temple, she took a sip and then turned to look at the club-goers. The DJ had taken over and the beat had her hips swaying slightly to the music. Out of the corner of her eye she saw someone approaching. Turning her head to them some, she smiled genuinely at them. “Having a good night?”

Lilia truly did not know what had possessed her to come here. To a bar of all places. She had never been much of a drinker, always preferred things that enhanced her senses rather than dulled them. For the most part, shifting was a well and good enough stimulant for her. However, needing to watch her back at all times since returning to California, she had not been able to do that as often as she might like. So she wandered about the city for a while, drifting, maybe looking for some poor sod with heavy pockets and no sense of awareness, but something pulled her into the bar. 

Two shots in and that was enough to begin to shake off the black cloud that had been following her for a while. Lilia had never really been a dancer, more akin to off-beat wiggles and flailing limbs, but that certainly didn’t stop her. Eyes closed, she let her body move, no doubt in some truly embarrassing moves. She did not notice just how far from her starting point her ‘dancing’ took her until a voice to the right forced her to open her eyes. 

“Have not decided yet. No ugly bastard has tried to hit on me yet, which is always good.”

The girl definitely had some interesting moves, she’d give her that. An even more genuine smile pulled at her lips at the response to her question. Chuckling just a little, Jenna kept moving to the music as well. “Ugly bastards can stay far the hell away. Now sexy, six pack abs bastards are welcome... no?”

Smirking, she took another sip of her drink. “I’m Jenna, nice to meet you. New here? Don’t think I’ve see you around here before, but I usually tend to stay to myself too much for my own good.”

Atlas smiled at these server as she blushed at his question.  He’d seen her a few times before and made small talk when they had interacted.  “Oh that’s quite alright.  I know how that can be.  There’s no rush."  He did chuckle a bit when she started to refill the sugar at his table.  "I’m Atlas by the way.  I’ve seen you working before but I don’t think I ever introduced myself.”

It had been a particularly late night at the office, the final vision of the afternoon for a client having stretched further into the evening than Auralie would have liked.  But when in the grips of her abilities, she didn’t exactly have much of a choice.  The stars winked at her as she locked up, waited at the bus stop to take her typical ride home with exhaustion weighing on her shoulders.  The late hour found her the only passenger on the bus, a warm smile given to the driver she knew so well before taking a seat towards the back.  Needing the boost of energy, Aura put her earbuds in and began to play her beloved opera music, unabashed as she closed her eyes and sang along with a voice that was crystal clear.  Unabashed, at least, until she realized someone else was now occupying the bus, eyes widening before falling to the floor.  “Pardon.  I did not realize I was no longer alone.”

It had been a good night at the club. Her set had gone well and she’d even managed to talk to a few people after wards. Jenna wanted to get back to her old self... the one that could talk to people without fear... the one that could laugh easily and have fun, but Jared had taken that from her. It had been a little over a year since she’d last seen him and she was starting to think maybe she was free and clear of her past. Either he hadn’t contacted the authorities about her attack on him and he was searching for her to exact his own revenge or they just hadn’t been able to find her yet. 

Climbing onto the bus, Jenna was tired. She had worked at the coffee shop in the morning, had a small break where she was able to eat and take a small nap before preparing for her night at the club, and then her set. Her body was aching for a long run to release the excess pent up energy that would probably have her lying awake in bed for another hour or two if she didn’t work it off, but she was far from dressed for running. She would need to go home and get changed first. As she settled into her seat towards the middle of the bus, she heard the girl’s voice and smiled. When she opened her eyes and looked embarrassed, Jenna shook her head. “No need. It was beautiful. You have a lovely voice.”

Atlas was lucky when he first moved out to Pansaw to set up his own practice.  He’d managed to find a space above a coffee shop that worked wonderfully for his practice.  He found the smell of coffee to be extremely soothing, which helped when he’d needed to use his abilities to help his patients.  It was that coffee shop that he was sitting in, his office phone forwarded to his cell so he could settle into one of the outside tables and go over his notes for his last appointment.  It was only after he sat down that he realized that there wasnt any sugar at his table.  Sighing to himself, he leaned over to get the other person’s attention.  “Pardon me, would you mind if I stole your sugar?  They seem to have forgotten to provide any for my table.”

Jenna had just started her shift at the coffee shop and was going around with a tray of sugar, sugar substitutes, and stirrers. The tables needed replenishing, but the shift before her had been so busy that both employees had needed to work the counter. Thankfully it had slowed down some when she started and she was able to replenish the tables. She had made quick work of the tables inside, replenishing and cleaning them off, and was now starting on the tables just outside. Jenna had just finished a table when she heard a deep male voice asking the table next to her for their sugar. Turning around, she blushed a little with embarrassment. “Sorry about that, Sir. We had a bit of a rush the last hour or so. I was just replenishing the tables outside,” she said as she moved to his table and took up his empty container to refill it.

BIOGRAPHY

Jenna was born July 8, 2018 just outside of Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas in a small town as the second child, and first girl, to John and Maria Sullivan. Since her parents had married young, the family grew up with little money to spare for material wants. However, the family was close and loving, which helped her to learn how to be loyal, kind, giving and loving so easily. Neither of her parents or siblings were metahumans, but her father’s father was.

Every summer, Jenna spent her time on her grandfather’s farm and learned how to control her abilities, since they were the same as hers. She grew up riding horses, helping out on the farm, and putting girly things low on the list of priorities. That of course, was until she started high school. When she was fourteen, she started dressing more girly and wearing some making up, which attracted her first boyfriend, Joel. They dated all through high school, but when he went off to college and she didn’t, they broke up.

Jenna started playing shows at local clubs and bars with her guitar or piano when she was 18. Since she was from a small town, they allowed her in the clubs and bars at 18 knowing she wouldn’t abuse the privilege and try to underage drink. Her life’s ambition was to become a singer that could support herself, if never becoming famous, but it wasn’t easy. Jenna struggled for years, but as great as working the small town circuit was it wasn’t enough. She desperately wanted to move to a bigger city, but the fear of being found out as a metahuman kept her at home.

When she was 24, Jenna couldn’t wait any longer. Packing up her bags, she moved to New York City to give it a go and see if she could make anything of herself and her music career. Almost as soon as she moved to the city, she met a man who was several years older than her named Jared. He told her he could get her the best gigs and a lot of exposure as an artist. For a while, they were strictly work friends. He’d give her leads on gigs, but the city had a cruel side and it was expensive. After her apartment was broken into for the second time, she moved in with Jared for safety and their relationship blossomed. Instead of just giving her leads on gigs, he’d get her a spot in them. He used his power and influence to progress her career.

However, it all came at a cost. It started off with an overly forceful grip of her arm to bring her closer to his side while meeting with a client. Then it progressed to pushing, shoving, and backhanding when she’d get in his way after meeting with a client didn’t go well. Having had enough of the abuse, Jenna had packed her bags to leave and was on her way out when Jared came home early and caught her. When he went to shove her down the stairs, she grew so angry that her wolf form took over and she shifted on the spot. Growling, she snapped at him and bit his arm hard enough to cause a significant bleed. Scared, Jenna shifted back quickly, grabbed her things and ran. Luckily she was able to get on a subway train and rest for the five minutes she needed, but now she needed to come up with a plan. Deciding it was best to get as far away from her mess, she hightailed it across the country and ended up in Pansaw. She’s been here just about a year and fears that her actions back in New York will come back to haunt her.

POWERS

ANIMAL SHAPESHIFTING: Jenna can take on the abilities and strengths of four animal forms (wolf, cat, eagle, fly). Her forms always look the same and she can never switch what four she has… once you take on a form, it’s yours for life. While in these forms, she can retain all the information she sees/hears when she returns to her human form.

WEAKNESSES

While her forms, she can be killed any way that they can be killed (ie. hunted, shot, hit by a car, swatted/smashed). When it comes to her wolf and cat form, Jenna needs half the time she was in that form to recover (ie. 4 hours in wolf/cat form, she needs 2 hours of sleep and a little food to recover). As for her eagle and fly form, Jenna needs the same amount of time she was in that form to recover because it’s such a significant change from human form (ie. 8 hours in eagle/fly form, she needs 8 hours of sleep and a decent amount of food). Once she shifts back to human form, she only has about 15 to 20 minutes to get somewhere safe to recover before she passes out.

Shapeshifting (Animal): Abilities/ Weaknesses

Capabilities:

Takes on the abilities and strengths of whatever animal she shifts into. She is limited to a total of four forms (ever) and they cannot change. Jenna’s four animals are: a wolf, a cat, an eagle, and a fly. While she will retain all information she learns while in her forms, she cannot communicate verbally with anyone unless it’s a telepath.

Wolf Abilities: heightened sense of smell, hearing, sight, and speed. They are same as any real wolf would have. Sense of smell is about 100x greater than that of a human, sense of hearing is about 30 khz, their sight is a little less than 180 degrees but can see things quickly and very minute, and their speed is only about 5mph.

Cat Abilities: all five senses are heightened in comparison to a human, but as a cat agility is a major strength. The ability to get in and out of small spaces and quickly is important.

Eagle Abilities: eyesight is 20/4, where humans its only 20/20. This is the only truly heightened sense, but she does have the ability to fly.

Fly Abilities:  flies have extremely strong visual reflexes. Flies taste, smell, and feel with the hairs that cover their bodies. The hairs on the fly’s mouth parts and feet are used for tasting.

Weaknesses:

While in her forms, she can be killed just like any of the animals themselves. (ie. hunted/shot, hit by a car, swatted with a fly swatter).

If she is in wolf or cat form for four hours, she will need two hours of recovery time. Jenna basically needs half the time she’s in one of these forms to recover. Recovery would involve food and sleep.

If she in the eagle or fly form, since it takes more concentration and strength to stay in such smaller forms that are vastly different from the human body, she needs the full amount of time for recovery. If she’s in these form for four hours, she needs to sleep for four hours afterwards.

It’s not an immediate need for rest, but she does need to rest within fifteen to twenty minutes post shift back to human form.

In order to shift, Jenna must be naked… which means she’ll be naked when she shifts back to human form. If she is not near her clothes when she shifts back, then she will need improvise on how to either get back to her clothes or hide in order to recover.
