This culture of âsave the tatasâ even goes as far as the doctorâs offices themselves. Most doctors request that the husband be present during surgical consultations, as though he has an equal say in the patient-professional discussion.
If the woman is single, as was my case, doctors have actually recommended postponing surgery until she finds a relationship, because âit could be nearly impossible to find someone who accepts it [your unnatural tatas] in years to comeâ.Â
Iâm 15 months post-mastectomy, and the date I had this past week was the first time since then that a guy hadnât reacted negatively to my scars. The relief was so overwhelming that I was fighting back tears. She was indicted again in December on obscenity charges for selling vagina art to crowdfund for the kayak and could spend two years in prison
In Japan, womenâs vaginas are treated as though they are menâs property. The trains here usually display pornographic advertisements. As a woman, I find that blatant objectification to be humiliating. Iâm disgusted by it. My body belongs to me. So, with this project I wanted to release the vagina from the standard Japanese paradigm. Japan is lenient towards expressions of male sexuality and arousal, but not so for women. When a woman uses her body in artistic expression, her work gets ignored, and people treat her as if sheâs some sex-crazed idiot. It all comes back to misogyny. And the vagina is at the heart of it. The vagina is ridiculed. Itâs lusted after. Men donât see women as equalsâto them, women are just vaginas. Then they call my vagina-themed work âobscene,â and judge me according to laws written by and for men. [x]

Ok Dr. Philâs wife, Robin, (yes groan, but listen up) has this new app out (iPhone and Android) thatâs for people in abusive relationships. Itâs called Aspire News and itâs disguised as a regular news app, but when you go to the âHelpâ section of the app, it leads you to domestic violence resources and also has a âGo Buttonâ that when you press it, if youâre in a compromising situation, alerts local authorities as well as local shelters and starts recording everything that is going on.
Now, if youâre looking up resources on the app and your abuser is near, simply press the X button and it brings you to a random news page. Same goes for the actual foundation site.

Many people who deal with chronic pain are asked by their doctors to keep a diary in which they track the day-to-day severity of the pain theyâre experiencing, the idea being that this information can help their doctors manage that pain and treat the underlying conditions. But some past studies have shown that keeping a pain diary could exacerbate symptoms, writes Robert Ferrari of the University of Alberta in a recent article in Rheumatology International, and he wanted to learn more about this possibility. To do so, he assigned a group of 58 study participants with acute lumbar (or lower back) sprains to one of two groups: Half were instructed to keep a pain diary for four weeks, and half were not. Three months after the study started, 79 percent of patients in the control group reported that they had recovered from their injury, while just 52 percent in the pain-diary group had.
