I’ve been trying to figure out what The Stag is supposed to symbolise in Hannibal and I think I finally came to an interesting conclusion. If I remember correctly, we are introduced to The Stag at the same time as the introduction of Abigail occurs. This might be because The Stag stands for commitment to the protection of their herd, in this case, Will’s commitment to protecting Abigail. This would also explain why we see The Stag bleeding out on the floor at the end of season two when Abigail is murdered, because Will failed at protecting her.

Watching Hannibal for the first time and as someone who loves supernatural I LOVE the detail that once Will begins to suspect Hannibal he starts seeing him as a Wendigo, AKA the supernatural being that begins as a human and then turns into a demonlike creature after engaging in cannibalism. If anyone knows any other cool symbolism used in the show lmk!!!
