Strange Duet || Damon & Runa
thedamon-smith:
Of course Adamen chose the largest for himself. It was overly inflated monarch thing to do. Probably the same reason his brother perched himself atop the monstrosity that was CitySpire.
“Then shell have to learn the hard way that I was not meant to rule. She’ll want the other brother for that.” The image of Vincent and Nara did make him chuckle as he turned back to face Runa. “You look extra lovely today.” He said moving closer to his mate. “Have I told you that yet today?” He asked distracting her from their surroundings for a moment.
Runa gave a short laugh, “She’d have a lot of hard lessons to learn should she try to keep you-” She almost added from me but cut herself short. Looking away from the buildings as he came closer, she narrowed her eyes at him, though was unable to keep the smile from her face. “You haven’t, though I find it refreshing to hear. I was beginning to wonder if you preferred my Road Warrior ensemble.” It was a reference she only knew thanks to a chatty Second Gen that compared her clan to an old human film.
His presence was like a live current, growing warmer and more pleasant the closer he came, but even he could not totally remove her from where she stood. Reaching out, her hand slipped over his abdomen, the briefest touch that helped her feel better, if only for a moment. “What would you like to see next?” She asked, her voice soft.
Strange Duet || Damon & Runa
thedamon-smith:
Damon’s eyes sparkled as he saw the buildings rise up in front of them. Atlantis had always amazed him even though he’d never admit. It was the Originals greatest achievement until his brother’s plan gave them control of the world. Both turned into disasters though.
He pointed to the building in the center. “And that one?” The tallest and most impressive. If he had to pick that’s where he’d make his home. It was the center of everything and from the top you could see the rest of the city unobstructed. Though it seemed time had not been as kind to the massive beast which was more noticeable as he got closer.
Runa paused, looking up at the spiraling building. “It’s initial purpose was to be the hub of the city, commerce on the lower floors, with the upper being used for Council meetings. I use ‘council’ liberally. Each royal family had an area where they convened with their people to bring forth issues and the like, the ‘council’ then would meet to discuss progress and the like. Whatever bureaucrats do.” She was clearly a queen of action - something her people insofar had come to admire and utilize. She did everything in her power to be fair, and in doing so, ensured that one action or another was taken.
“It became Adamen’s palace in the end. commerce was moved to the streets, trade opened in the hearts of the skeletal remains of clan quarters.” She could recall the last time she was there. The day her father had been killed - ritualistically torn apart and destroyed. “You can go in if you fancy, I haven’t the stomach for it. Be warned, Nara might try and keep you as her King.” She teased, trying to wipe the image of her father from her mind.

Mina snorted. “He’d probably think I was possessed or someone had pushed me.” She chuckled. “But then I could get rid of him and finally have some peace. It would be wonderful.” She sighed dramatically. “His poor fragile ego would implode.”
Mina nodded politely to the young girl. It was rare that she saw an Original younger than herself on the mainland. She could help but stare and think of all she had been though in her young life.
Runa’s question pulled her attention back. “I think you’ve adapted very quickly.” She moved along with one of the tables and parked the babies when Runa stopped. “It took me much longer to find my place here. But I suppose the obstacles that you’ve all face have made you more adaptable. And at least you have each other.”
Runa hadn’t known Dagan or Mina for very long, so she felt somewhat bad laughing at the King’s expense. Her mother, she was certain, would have had a kind and diplomatic word for the other queen, but somehow Runa didn’t think Mina would appreciate diplomacy when it came to her mate. “Original, human, hybrid or Second Gen. I believe you’ve just described every male of every species.” Her sex had been a brief point of contention with Harran, who had been raised among a clan of old tradition, at least until she proved herself more capable than even he.
Nodding, Runa picked at a large stuffed mushroom. “I am blessed in that regard. Certainly there are individuals who falter, but I do what I can to ease their concerns and help them find their footing in our new way of life. These are good people, resilient. In all the world I couldn’t have asked for better. I look forward to the day I can find them a true home and they can build the prosperous lives they were denied by Adamen.” Pausing, she tilted her head and looked uncertainly at Mina. “Do you know- It was Dagan’s clan that took over the island my clan hail from. I know the world has changed, but are you aware of its standing? Does it still exist?”

thedamon-smith:
When she mentioned trouble Damon beamed and twirled the weapon in his hand. He wouldn’t mind a bit of it but let Runa call the shots. At least for now.
He watched as the guards dispersed and let them pass. Damon toss the weapon back to one of the guards then shot them a wink as he turned to leave. He could hear their grumbling as he walked away with and couldn’t be more pleased.
“I don’t care where we start. You can choose.” He guessed from how easily the Atlanteans backed down that he wasn’t going to find much resistance. To be quite honest, he was disappointed.
“Chronologically, then.” Runa said, turning her sights to the still gleaming towers in the center of the city. They were different than that of New York. Gleaming glass and bronze, positioned like a tiered cake. When it had been new, it had been one of the most beautiful things she’d ever beheld. Now the sight of it filled her with dread.
Memory led them through spiraling roads till she came to a stop, looking at the rows, familiar and quiet, as if they’d been holding their breath for her return. “This is where my family and my Clan were placed. These were our homes here.” She waved a hand forward. “Several stories up and several more down, It was the only way to fit us all.” Of course, these were the immediate buildings that had held her people. She didn’t feel as though she were up to heading down the block to the building in the center of it - the tallest one, made specifically for the royalty of the Ariqun. She didn’t want to see what had been done to it, or who had been allowed to live their once she’d been thrown to Temen. Despite her trepidation, her feet seemed to lead them there of their own accord.
“This was my home, brief as it was.”

“I believe they had machines that made it fairly easy. You should be able to get one working. Unless you want to make it by hand, then good luck to you.” Mina had no idea where to even start in making ice cream. Any kind of cooking was a mystery.
“Pleasure,” she said with one hand still on the stroller. Mina eyed the banter with a smile. It was clear that Runa had been made queen. They seemed to not only respect her but there was also a clear love. Mina knew it was a feeling that her own clan would never have toward her. She was a little jealous of it. “I’m sure we’ll be just fine.”
“I’ll look into it, maybe one of your Second Generation has an idea.” Runa mused thoughtfully. “Wouldn’t it be grand to learn it secretly, then surprise Dagan with a bit of your own cooking?” A grin flit across her features. “Might help keep him on his toes - if you learn to cook for yourself, whatever would you need him around for?” She teased good naturedly.
“Peace, Jaken.” She said in farewell, moving down the line where a fresh array of food had been brought out. “It was made a habit of ours to keep a master of every gift - when we could - in a group. When we finally came together to free ourselves, our units were almost evenly divided so that at least one member of the unit mastered precognition, another telekinesis, and so on. The units became like families, and they’ve mostly stayed together. Jaken is master of surging in his unit, Kalei is master of precognition. She was the one who had them ready my favorite meal.” Runa informed Mina, beaming at a young woman who could have passed easily for a teenager. Runa picked up the plate full of steaming food and led Mina to one of the many common tables. “Thoughts on what you’ve seen so far?” The question wasn’t formed as a challenge, but Mina at least had the training that she’d lost out on when her father had been usurped by Adamen and her mother had died in Temen.

thedamon-smith:
Damon always enjoyed all eyes on him. Especially when those eyes belonged to other Originals. He was no stranger to being center stage since he was a child. It was Vincent’s fault mostly.
“I think we’d have much more fun without that women. I’ve mostly found that other royals don’t know when to let loose.” He started walking toward the highest building he could spot. “Present company excluded, of course.” Damon looked over his shoulder to make sure she was following when another Original walked in between them. The move was obviously not a mistake or accidental when then turned to face Runa.
“Queen Nara,” the Original corrected, hand reaching for something tucked in their belt.
Damon wasted no time. With their back to him, he easily closed the distance between them and plucked the weapon from the holster. “Oh this looks fun,” he said inspecting the weapon as he let Runa address the now unarmed guard.
Runa had paused, having seen the possible altercation coming moments before. Listing her head to the side, she glanced at Anshar, at the weapon in his hand, and finally at the guard.
“Queens need not address each other by their title.” She said; “Nor should you forget that your Queen is a temporary placement, as your King, her father, is responsible for the genocide of multiple clans of our people and awaits his just desserts.” The venom in her voice was subtle. “We’re not here to start trouble.” Mostly. She thought towards Anshar. “But make no mistake, if you attempt in any way to hinder us and our right to be here, I’ll make you regret it.” She’d approached him slowly, openly, staring the man down. “Now get out of my way.”
For a moment she thought, hoped, that he would attempt to strike her, but he moved aside, and the others followed suit, allowing her and Anshar passage.
“Where would you like to start? The bad or the good?” She asked, moving past the small mass of people, her stride calm though her pulse thundered - mostly with rage.

“One would think, but men, especially men in power, are notoriously stupid.” She mused. “Oh, it is wonderful. I would suggest testing a variety of flavors. There are many to choose from.” Mina could imagine Damon doing anything for anyone else but kept that information to herself.
“That sounds like a lovely idea.” She wouldn’t refuse any help in the cooking area, especially knowing it was another opportunity to get closer to Runa. The new Queen was the first tolerable original outside the Shubure that she’s encountered. Her husband the notable exception, of course. “I certainly wouldn’t mind spending more time to get to know you. I think we could be good friends in time, Runa.”
“Don’t I know it.” Runa replied with a grin. She’d fallen victim to those notoriously stupid men, after all. “I’ll be sure to mention it the next time I see him. Can you make it? Iced cream...” She mused, “It seems like it would be a fun sort of little challenge.” The heavens knew she needed a bit of fun in her life. Her father had always balanced his duties with relaxation, in one form or another. Given that he’d been a beloved leader, she was sure that was one of the reasons he always had the time and peace of mind to approach the issues of his position.
“I agree,” She smiled, and it was true. It didn’t hurt that she could use all the allies she could get - especially other royalty. “Queen Mina, this is Jaken. He’s taken to hosting many of our fine meals here.” She introduced the two, and reached over to steal a kabob that had been roasting. “We’re going to teach each other to cook, Jaken.” She informed the man, once he’d paid the proper respect to the visiting royalty. At that information, Jaken laughed, a booming thing. “My lady, you would be better learning from a book than our beloved queen. You may accidentally poison someone.” He crowed, dashing out of the way as Runa flicked a mushroom at him with a sour look. “Jaken was a metal worker before he became a cook, if that tells you anything.” She grumbled playfully.

Strange Duet || Damon & Runa
The last time Damon set foot on Atlantis he was carrying off his seemingly dying brother after just meeting his second mate. It was a confusing day. However the city itself held no special meaning to him, so going back was not issue. And the fact that it’d probably really piss off the Atlanteans to have him set foot on their island with no invitation was a big motivation.
“I’m sure it’ll be great.” That familiar twinkle returned to his eye as he thought of all the trouble this could cause. He stepped into the transporter and winked at Runa before being sent to the city.
Runa pressed her lips together, holding back an inadvertant smile. “Idiot.” She muttered into the silence before following after him through the transporter.
For having spent ages in Atlantis, she’d already almost forgotten the thrum that ran through her feet, nearly unnoticeable up here - deafening in the pits of Temen. Tension wound its way through her body, coiling like a snake around her insides as the Atlanteans who were going about their day to day lives paused to gawk at them. Some of them still wore remnants from times forgotten, others dressed as though they were prepared to join the mainland any day.
Runa clasped her hands tightly together in front of her. “What would you like to see first?” She asked, her voice deceptively calm as she ignored their spectators - her mind reaching out and touching each of them, tasting their intentions, her power ensuring that none of them would get any ideas.
“Or would you like to alert Nara to our arrival?” She asked, barely glancing at Anshar. What was she going to show him here? A life she barely lived? What if he wanted to see the place they’d kept her? What sort of queen would survive like that?
Soon enough, Mina wouldn’t be the only one he thought of as a cave creature.

Runa practically had to jog to keep up with Anshar once he’d set his sights on Atlantis. She could feel her nerves roiling, her skin breaking out in goosebumps at the very thought of going back to the island, but she hadn’t said a word since she’d realized his intentions weren’t a joke. It was just a place, like any other, and she would not let him think that she was hesitant, that she was afraid.
Of course, that didn’t stop her from pausing once they were at the harbor.
“I must admit, I didn’t not anticipate returning here. Ever.” She sighed, her voice not betraying her anxiety.

“He’s very protective now. I suppose it does make sense considering everything I eat will be transferred to the babies.” She shrugged. “I don’t mind it as long as he continues to make things I enjoy.”
“Oh, I’ve tried.” She chuckled and shook her head. “There was plenty of smoke damage in my old place showing how much I’ve tried.” Piper still teased her about it. Her sister moved into her old apartment and all the scars that went with it.“What about you? Do you consider yourself a good cook?”
“You’d imagine keeping you happy would be on the top of his list.” Runa chuckled, “I’ve heard a lot about ice cream, for instance, and until Anshar brings me some, I will not be happy.” She joked, poking fun at herself.
Hesitating only briefly, she shrugged. “I’ve never really cooked for anyone else, so I can’t give you an honest answer. What I’ve made for myself was...simple. I never cooked before Temen, that was all my mother and aunt, my father wasn’t allowed to cook, much like you.” She chuckled. In Temen they hadn’t had the opportunity to make thinks appetizing, more often than not people had gone hungry. She’d often given her portions to the young ones until Harran had caught her. That had been an ugly fight, and a bad night all together. None of this was mentioned to Mina though, and she smiled. “Maybe we can practice together.” She suggested.
