NOTETAKING TIPSÂ
I am in no way an expert, but these are the few things Iâve noticed while I was studying for my ib exams.Â
1. Use Post Its I think we underestimate how useful post its are. I find that writing down notes on post its and tagging them on the pages really helps me during revision, especially for content heavy subjects like literature and history.
2. Colour coding I really enjoy making my notes âprettyâ so that I would want to look at them again and again and again. Therefore, personally, lack of colour makes my notes dull and I find them boring to read. Colour coding is good too cause its easier for your brain to remember things based on the colour that youâve assigned.Â
3. Booktab Having mini tabs and tagging all the important pages saves you SO MUCH time. When youâre trying to cram in some last minute information an hour before the exam, you donât have time to flip through your 800 paged textbook. So save yourself the trouble and booktab important pages!Â
4. Handwriting notes I find that handwriting notes make things easier to remember. HOWEVER, sometimes you just donât have the time for it. So, you have to be strategic! you can only handwrite certain subjects and digitalise others.Â
5. Time Timing is so important. The earlier you start, the more time you have to do revision. If you're still making notes one day before the exam, you clearly didnât have enough time. You should have planned your revision so that you have enough time to look through and try past year papers.Â
6. Notebooks compared to binders, I really think notebooks are more useful. They give you a sense of organisation because ALL your notes for that subject is in one place. Unlike binders, you wonât ever lose a page or mix up pages.Â
7. personalise! your notes are, ultimately, yours. The only person they should matter to, is you. So, always make sure your notes are formatted to cater to you, and they are easy to understand for you. as long as it works for you, even if the rest of the world doesnât understand, it doesnât matter!Â
I hope you guys found this useful! All the best in your exams!
For @obsidianstudy | Go to Sleep! Planner  | Sleep Series 2/2Â
Tis I, Kitty, a studyblr, popping in again to explain things that are not studyblr related!! This Sleeping Guide will be divided into 4 parts, the basics (everything you need to know), a mythbuster section, a section about napping, and lastly, a misc section! Here we go!
I. The Basics
- Without sleep, your mental and physical health will suffer greatly. Here is a list of side effects.
-  There are many, many benefits to sleeping. Here are the benefits.
- Waking up between sleep cycles is the best way to wake up. Calculate sleep cycle (x x ) here. Additional REM info (x ) here.
- stick to a schedule and routine: Use this printable. So when that time come, your body will be accustomed to it and be ready. This includes weekends.
- Â Nicotine / Alcohol / Caffeine are very Bad before bed. Donât drink at least 3 hours before bed. Â Drink tea instead!! (I swear I feel like Iroh sometimes. TEA!) Here are tea recipes for sleep ( x ) Â my personal fave is Sweet Sleep.
- Â To get better sleep, use your bed for 2 things only: sleep and The Intimacy. (yâall should know what Iâm talking about.)
- Make the room, dark /quiet /comfortable (i.e mattress is supportive and comfy. Lifetime for mattress is usually 9-10 years ) + room is cool (60-67 degrees)
- Avoid electronics at least 1-2 hours before bed.Â
- Do quiet activities at least an hour before bed. i.e reading (something boring), writing, meditating etc.
- If you are suffering from serious problems with sleeping, please call a professional to help! Cuz you might be suffering from some serious sleep disorders!
II. Myth-Busting
Q: I should drink milk before I go to bed.
A:    Depends. The  tryptophan in milk is not in such a large amount to induce sleep + it can sometimes make you feel full.  So really try an alternative light snack Hereâs a list of good snacks to eat, and not to eat for that matter. (and no, milk doesnât help you gain weight either.) In spite of all that, A cup of milk is good in moderation, but itâs effects is mostly psychological.Â
Q: I should count sheep before I go to bed
A: Â Â Â Â Â Â NO NO NO. Counting sheep is not effective unless you are an ancient shepherd. To soothe their worries about (their sheeps ofc) they count them. A more effective way to soothe your anxiety is think of a pretty landscape like a waterfall or a beach.Of course, Â if sheep counting works for you, thatâs okay too!
Q: Everyone needs 8 hours of sleep at night!!
A: Â Â Â Â Â It can definitely vary from person to person! For adolescents, itâs usually 7-9 hours. For adults, itâs usually 7-8 hours, but it can definitely vary around these ranges! Another thing about adolescents is that they have a different clock, they sleep later during the night and wake up late in the morning! (thatâs why we are always tired cri)
Q: We fall asleep immediately.
A: Â Â Â Not true! It takes an average of 14 minutes for a regular person to fall asleep. So make sure to plan that in your sleep cycle as well! (Go to bed 14 minute in advance to allow you time to fall asleep)
III. Napping
The best way to pay your sleep debt is through napping! But there is actually very specific times you need to nap. I advise not napping in the late afternoon (after 4:00pm) because it is too close to bedtime. I am gonna quote what @studygene  said in her sleeping masterpost cuz it was very accurate in helping me nap. (thank you tulip for being a blessing)
â 1- 5 minutes (micro naps): great for shaking off sleepiness.
10-20 minutes (power naps): ideal for a boost of alertness and energy; usually limits your sleep at the Stage 1 and 2 of sleeping, making it easier to get up and get moving.
60 minutes: best for improving memorization. A little grogginess when waking up. Best before a presentation or meeting.
90 minutes (the full cycle): Improves creativity, emotional memory and procedural memory. Best before an impending deadline or a big test. Avoids sleep inertia and makes it easier to get up. â
Try to create a comfortable napping environment for yourself. Use some ~relaxing music~ to help you! Hereâs some examples!
-Ghibli Cafe Jazz (my fave !!! the entire channel is A+++)
-Rainymood (great white noise I sob)
-Mi  Disney and Studio Ghibli playlist MPs

how to study as a busy student
i personally go through this a lot because i have to balance saturday band, honor band, auditions, performances, history club, national history day with school and nonexistant friends. so here u go, friend!! this is my advice to keep up with your (busy) studying!! ha see what i did there im so funny
1. have a planning system. this is a no-brainer. but honestly youâre going to need something to help you keep track of all your deadlines AND your afterschool activities. it doesnât have to be expensive or fancy; heck it can even be on your phone. but make sure youâre keeping track of everything.
2. use all the time you can to do your homework. if youâre really behind or you have a lot of homework and not enough time to do it at home, do your homework when you can during school. this does NOT mean trying to set the world record for fastest writer while your teacher is collecting the homework. this means on the bus, waiting for your food/the bus/your friends, those down periods during and between classes, during sports practice, and even during lunch. however do NOT make a habit of this!! i get that its a lot, but please still try to have a life!!! <3
3. set aside a day a week to solely catch up on school work, and another day just to relax. i usually have saturday as my school work day and sunday as my day to relax and prepare for the week. this may seem contradictory, seeing as you may have sports practice or rehearsal on saturday or something. but think of it this way: youâre already going to be working your butt off that day. you might as well keep that flow going and get all your school work together and catch up on any missing assignments. you can also use that sunday off as your motivation to work hard because youre being rewarded with a completely free day.
4. do your homework on friday. please. just do it. this kind of follows the same concept as above: you have school that day anyways, so keep working your hardest. now, if you have no friends like me, thisâll be easy. but if you have plans on fridays (which you should, seriously, go out), stop working 1-2 hours before you have to go somewhere. you can continue any work you havent completed on your catch-up day.
5. drop one or two things. this sounds really painful!!! but being in a lot of extracurriculars and having a nice application/resume is not as nice as your mental health. not being able to balance too many things at once will stress you out and make you sick. like, i used to be in drama club and i also had piano class on wednesdays. once i got older, i realized that these things looked nice on my honor society application, but i didnt have time for what really mattered. (plus i didnât rly like them anyways.) if you can work your way around it, fine. but otherwise, keep the things close to your heart and drop what you absolutely donât have time for.
6. if worse comes to worse, talk to your teachers. they will understand, if youâre struggling to be a well-rounded student and keep up your grades at the same time. this doesnât mean lie or use your teachers as an easy way out. but rather, if everything becomes too overwhelming, talk to someone.
i really hope that helped @ the original anon who asked me this question! sorry this was so late! iâm quite the busy student myself hahaha

I love being in college because there are no actual adults around so everyone is just going around bullshitting their way through basic tasks. Like I can be like âI think I got better from my cold because I ate an orange yesterdayâ and everyone is like âYeah makes senseâ and somebody could just be like âIâm gonna put my pillow in the washing machine to clean itâ and everyoneâs like âSounds like a great idea Johnâ
