Merry Christmas! || Jeremy/Gwen/Toby/Tristan
Jeremy/Toby: Toby took in a shaky breath as he darted around the house, spinning circles, and adjusting things, checking his hair in any mirror he passed. He tasted his turkey for the third time to make sure it tasted good and then went about warming things up and putting things on the table. Dinner was the first thing they had planned, and while he knew he could make some fairly decent food, he was pretty freaking nervous. He had never ever hosted a Christmas dinner before and it was just as stressful as it always seemed on TV, especially when there was no one to help him. His date with Tris had gone amazing, but the second date was equally as important as the first, and he was worried that he would disappoint him, that the whole dinner would crash and burn and he would totally embarrass himself. He finally managed to slow down when everything was on the table, picking out a bottle of wine and pouring himself a glass before heading into the living room, and sitting down. "Ready?" he called up the stairs. "It's almost time."
Gwen/Tris: Gwen, hearing Toby's call from the main floor immediately began to panic. She took the towel out of her hair, quickly forcing a brush through it. She had never been so grateful that she had inherited her mother's straight hair as opposed to her father's unruly curls. Leaning over to check things over in her vanity mirror she shouted a response. "Yeah, just give me a minute." She shouldn't have gotten so caught up in her book of french folklore, while skimming through a writing tips book her sister bought her. At least her dress wasn't wrinkled from lying on the bed for an hour. After she pinned her hair back properly, she joined Toby downstairs. "Could I also have a glass of that?" She sat in the arm chair across from him, holding out the empty glass she took from the kitchen. "I'm very excited to meet this mystery boy you've been sneaking around with. I wonder if he's just as nervous as you are. You look like you'll jump up into the ceiling when the doorbell rings. Take a few deep breaths. It will be okay." She demonstrated the motion with her hands, just as there was a quiet knock on the door. "I'll get it."
Jeremy/Toby: Jeremy shifted the weight of his friends' presents in his arms as he fell into step with Tristan, the new guy Toby was dating. He had to admit, he seemed pretty nice. He was almost sorry he didn't know him well enough to buy him a present. "So, excited for dinner then?" he asked, leaning half of his weight against the wall, looking at the other man with a bright smile, before pressing the doorbell. He chuckled as he shifted from foot to foot, once again balancing the gifts in his arms so they didn't slip. "Second date. Always fun. And Toby's an amazing cook, so that's something to look forward to." he turned toward the door as it swung open. "Gwen, hey! Hello!" he awkwardly stumbled forward, just barely catching the presents, as he'd briefly forgotten he was holding them. He gave his girlfriend a half hug and headed inside so he could put his presents somewhere. "Where do I-- uhm?"
Gwen/Tris: Tris was nervously pulling at the bottom of his shirt. He was sure that was something he hadn't done since he was about six years old. "Uh yeah, I'm so excited I've been moving around all day. I can't seem to relax." Tristan looked down at the two small packages under his arm, and back to the large stack of gifts the other man was carrying. Even though Tristan hardly knew any of his dining companions, he still felt slightly inferior. Then again he was bringing gifts for his girlfriend, and he did hear that he was an artist. Artists could make a lot of money. "I am starved actually, and I thought it would be weeks before I got to see his place or eat his cooking." When the door opened he had to stifle a laugh when Jeremy's large stack of presents almost hit the ground. He got the impression that they saw each other on a fairly regular basis, but he seemed so excited to hug her that he didn't remember what else he was doing. It was sweet. The small brunette greeted him with a smile, and a soft kiss on each cheek. He had forgotten she was french until that moment. He noticed Gwen pointed to a rather large Christmas tree in the main room. "Just under the tree will be fine. We could open them before or after dinner. I'm not too sure when it will be finished." Tristan watched the tiny girl escort her boyfriend into the main room to sort out his presents. He then edged slowly over to Toby. "Hi." Even though they were standing close, Tris gave him a small wave. "So this is nice. Oh and uh, I have something for you. It's nothing major, I just thought you'd like it." He said handing him the smaller of two wrapped packages. "The other one's for your roommate. Speaking of, they are quite an odd couple aren't they. It must suck for her to get out a stepladder every time she wants to kiss him." He winced at his sad attempt at a joke. "We should join them. The food smells delicious so far by the way."
Jeremy/Toby: "Yes you can," Toby confirmed as he rose from the couch. He poured her a glass of wine and then poured Tristan one as well, just in case. He stepped out of the kitchen, and smiled as he watched Jeremy stumble through the door. "You look lovely," he heard the other man say as his girlfriend greeted him. He met eyes with Tris as the clumsy brunette moved around to the tree and set the presents down in a haphazard pile, giving him a slight smile. "I was actually thinking we could do dinner beforehand, since everything's out and ready to go." Toby suggested as he stepped out of the door way and handed Gwen her glass. "Hey," he said, as Tristan moved toward him he held his glass of wine out for him. He smiled, waving in response, and taking a sip of his wine, trying hard to unwind and stop being so nervous. "I got you something too, actually," he took the package from him and chuckled as he considered the weight of it in his hand. "Mine's under the tree though, so. I'll actually go put this with it... Thank you." he chuckled as he made the joke about Jeremy and Gwen's height difference. "It's a /bit/ entertaining to watch at times, if I'm completely honest, she's just pocket sized, really." he smiled, and placed his hand fleetingly on the other boy's shoulder comfortingly, as he lightly placed the present onto the pile Jeremy had left. "Yeah, good idea. Let's get in there." he nodded. "Thank you. I hope it tastes as good as it smells." he said, leading him into the dining room and showing him his seat across the table from him and next to Gwen.
Gwen/Tris: Gwen smiled, mildly annoyed that with the large pile of gifts he was holding it wasn't exactly easy to give him a kiss. She convinced Toby to hold the ladder while she hung mistletoe above the door, telling him it would benefit them both at some point during the day. Now her first opportunity to take advantage of it was wasted. She needed to get him away from those gifts as soon as possible. When Gwen returned, with her arm wrapped around her boyfriend's waist she was happy to see Toby and Tristan smiling and looking slightly more relaxed."You both should try the wine. It will relax you a little more." Gwen took the seat next to Tristan, unfolding her napkin and setting it in her lap while gazing at the spread of food on the table. "I should have paid more attention when you were cooking all of this Toby, I had no idea there would be so much food. And I'm sure it will taste amazing, it's not as if I helped cook it or anything." She straightened her posture, playing with the end of her silver knife. "So do any of you need to say grace or anything before we eat?" She was fairly sure neither Remy or Toby were particularly religious, but she didn't want to single out their guest.
Jeremy/Toby: Jeremy noticed the mistletoe only after noticing the slightly agitated look on her face. Searching for the source of it, he glanced toward the door and there it was. He had overlooked the mistletoe in the doorway. She had been looking forward to kissing him. He chuckled to himself as he sat everything down, and planned to tug her into the doorway later in the night. He walked with her and smiled at the other happy couple, glad to see that Tristan had relaxed considerably since he'd seen him outside. He watched Gwen take a sip of her wine and considered trying wine again, even though he knew it would be a futile attempt. He had tried and retried wine multiple times but it hadn't worked out for him, at all. He sat down across the table from her, and began to set everything up to eat. Toby smiled at Gwen as he pulled around the table to sit next to Jeremy. "Yeah, I definitely made a lot. Probably a bit more than we needed, but leftovers are never a bad thing to have in this house." he smiled as he got comfortable in his chair. Jeremy considered offering to say grace, but he rarely ever saw the need to before, and he wasn't sure he'd be able to do it. Toby looked up at Tristan as he got settled and took a sip of his wine, wondering if he was religious. He hadn't the slightest clue.
Gwen/Tris: Tristan spoke up immediately. "We don't need to do anything like that. I'm pretty sure I've only been to church the one time. No worries. And if there are any leftovers I'd be happy to take some of them. I might even be able to trade some of it for favors, it's probably that good." He half-wished that he was sitting next to Toby or even Jeremy, instead of the tiny girl sitting next to him. Maybe she was as nervous as he was, even if she had no reason to be. It looked like she couldn't wait to get up and move around. Like some kind of an insect trapped in a jar. "So what do you guys all do? Are you students in London too, or are you working? Jeremy I heard you that you dabble in the arts occasionally." Gwen passed him the potatoes and he placed a large scoop onto his plate before setting them down on the other side. He helped himself to some of the already sliced turkey in the center while he waited for the other sides to be passed around. He popped a small piece into his mouth, savoring it. "It's delicious. I think we should toast the chef." He wrapped his fingers around the glass, raising it to his eye level. "To the chef. " He spoke barely above a whisper, his eyes darting between Toby and the patterned tablecloth. "Cheers!" He said, clinking his glass against everyone's at the table.
Jeremy/Toby: Toby was oddly flattered by the amount of faith that the other man seemed to have in his cooking, he had only known him for a few days, and for all he knew he could be the worst cook on the face of the planet and just be especially arrogant, but he trusted him instead, he trusted that he was actually pretty good. He chuckled instead of letting his gratitude surface on his face. "Good then, let's eat." he announced triumphantly as he went about giving himself a slice of turkey and picking up the bowl from table as Tris sat it down. He packed his plate full of small portions of each thing he had cooked, as things floated around the table. Jeremy nodded, as he finished placing his mashed potatoes on his plate. "I do, yeah. I'm a student too, as a matter of fact. Studying the arts at Oxford, some other things too, mostly Film Aesthetics and Art History, just for the kick of it really. I don't know what I'm doing yet, but I'm not really in a rush to figure it out." he took a sip of the glass of water Toby had set out for him earlier and smiled. "You're studying to be a director, yeah?" Jeremy asked. Toby smiled, a little bit of color rushing to his cheeks as his guest proposed a toast. He chuckled. "Alright, alright," he mumbled through a bout of laughter, smiling softly as he gently clinked his glass to everyone else's. He smiled and took a sip of his wine, making eye contact with the visibly nervous Tristan, he had the strongest urge to jump across the table and hug him and tell him to relax, but instead he just gently bumped the toe of his shoe to his and cleared his throat.
Gwen/Tris: "Oh really. I can't say I'm surprised we haven't met yet, it's a giant school. And I feel like I'm the only American, so people probably avoid me. Just as a principle. I'd do the same if I was from Europe." Tristan felt a soft bump on his shoe, and he couldn't help but smile and bite his lip to stop himself from laughing. "Oh no, not really. I'm technically studying English but there are great elements of that course where I get to study Shakespeare and other playwrights. I also really love the drama club I'm part of after hours. I'd like to be a theater director one day. If when I graduate I can't find work here, I can always move back to New York. I might apply to the playwrights program at Juliard if I do. I can't imagine a better work environment personally." The girl next to him was listening very intently. She said something about the her time in the Literature program at Yale. She explained that she was simply vacationing in London, until she met Jeremy and decided to stick around. "I thought about applying to Yale, but I really wanted to get out of the States. I guess you all understand that since none of you are from England."
Jeremy/Toby: Jeremy chuckled as he took a bite of his turkey, nodding. "Yeah, the school /is/ huge." he cut another small piece of his turkey as he spoke. "I understand how that is, you never see Icelanders around Oxford either. Or at all in England, actually. The only one I've ever really seen here was Jolene, and she's gone back to Reykjavik." he took a sip of his water, and bit into his turkey. Toby nodded as Jeremy spoke, eating his own cooking eagerly as he smiled at Tris across the table, muffling a laugh of his own. "Icelanders don't really travel much though, I'm an exception to the rule that way." he smiled. "Well, that's excellent, I'm sure you'll be able to find something around here, there's a lot of theater in London, mostly small stuff, but there is the Shakespeare Theater Company, too. I think that's what it's called anyway." he went silent as Gwen spoke and smiled a slightly sly smile as she admitted she stuck around for him. He reached across the table and squeezed her free hand before going back to eating. Toby nodded. "Yeah, it's good to get away from home for a while, see the world. It's healthy."
Gwen/Tris: "The Royal Shakespeare Company? Yeah they are on my list of choices. But I'm still a year and a half away from graduating so it's not something I need to think about right now. I did save up my money to see a play at the Globe in the summer, and it was amazing. " Tristan noticed the brief moment between the other couple. He couldn't see how Toby could handle that on a regular basis. Tristan hated seeing couples in love, it made him realize just how lonely he was. At least he used to be, for now he had a companion. "I know. Coming to London was like a breath of fresh air, I never even traveled much within the US. I just wish it wasn't so expensive to fly here, I hardly ever see my family. But they support me, no matter what."
Jeremy/Toby: "Yeah, that's the one," Jeremy confirmed, nodding enthusiastically as he finished off his turkey. "I've been meaning to see a show there, it's one of the few things I haven't gotten around to just yet." he nodded, smiling as he took a sip of his water. "That's good." he remarked. "Travelling is a good thing, it's a good way to find yourself." Toby smiled at Tristan, he had little to contribute the conversation, but he enjoyed listening to it. He took a sip of his wine and relaxed into his chair ever so slightly as he finished off a little bit over half of his plate. "So, is everyone enjoying everything?" he asked. "Be honest, constructive criticism is important."
Gwen/Tris: "Delizioso. As always." Gwen said, using the only word she knew in Italian. "I'll probably eat so much turkey I won't be able to stay awake for much longer after the gifts. It's just as well, I'm trying to save my energy for New Years. There's nothing better than a good New Years party." Tristan next to her then took advantage of the lull in conversation to convey his opinion. "I can say now that I've had at least of taste of everything on the table, that it is the best homemade Christmas dinner I've ever had. Don't tell my Mum. She'll never let me forget it." He returned Toby's smile, and followed it with a soft tap on his foot.
Jeremy/Toby: Toby chuckled. "Thanks." he smiled, and took another sip of his wine as she continued to speak. Jeremy nodded in agreement to what his girlfriend had to say, taking a swig of his water before raising his glass slightly above the table regally. "Hear, hear." he gave a goofy grin as he drummed on his stomach, leaning into his chair a little bit for dramatic effect. Toby laughed and turned his attention to Tristan, as he spoke, his smile softened, and he felt the most relaxed that he'd felt the entire dinner, possibly the most relaxed he'd been in at least a few days, with the look on his face and the tap on his foot, he couldn't help but let out a slight laugh, visibly thankful for the compliment. "Scout's honor, I won't say a word."
Gwen/Tris: Gwen rose from the table first, folding her napkin neatly and setting it next to her empty plate. "I think we should move onto the gifts now, don't you? So we have time for dinner to digest before we all eat dessert?" Brushing her hand against Jeremy's she practically skipped out of the dining room and into the living room. When the rest of the group finally joined her, she was sitting contentedly on the love seat closest to the tree."I think Toby should open his first, since he's been planning this dinner for weeks it seems."
Jeremy/Toby: Jeremy and Toby followed suit as Gwen moved to get up. "That's a good idea," the dirty blonde agreed, taking his wine with him as he moved around the table to meet up with Tristan. Jeremy chuckled, finding her childlike excitement about opening presents to be extremely endearing. Jesus Christ he was crazy about her. He swallowed and grabbed his water before following after her, letting out a soft laugh as he joined her in the living room, he plopped down beside her and pressed a light kiss to her forehead. "Hello, gorgeous." In the dining room, Toby smiled at Tristan, lightly bumping his arm against his. "Thanks for coming." he says in a soft voice. He grabs his hand for just a second to squeeze. He chuckled. "If we don't get in there in like two minutes Gwen might murder us." he smiled and lead him forward. He laughed as Gwen suggested he go first, and plopped down on the floor. "Alright."
Gwen/Tris: "Hi handsome." She whispered, getting comfortable next to him and lacing her fingers through his. She noted that at least from her end, her amount of personal space when it came to Remy was very limited. Not that she minded, it had just been a while since she got such enjoyment out of simply holding hands. What she thought might be a brief fling, if even that had become something she hadn't entirely prepared for. Tristan followed closely behind Toby as they made their way around the table. "Oh it's no problem. Sorry if I seemed a bit tense back there, I'm not entirely comfortable in formal situations with strangers. But Jeremy and Gwen are great, really." Entering the room where the gifts were, Tristan sat on the couch a few feet behind Toby. "Should I be the elf then?" He noted Gwen's nod out of the corner of his eye, and luckily the gifts were mostly sorted already so there was no need to dig through them all. Grabbing Toby's pile, he handed them delicately to him before retaking his seat. "Well go ahead!" Gwen said from across the room, excited to see which one he would open first.
Jeremy/Toby: Jeremy smiled down at her and rested his head against hers, enjoying the feeling of her fingers between his, he sinks into the loveseat. Sometimes he was overwhelmed by how strong his feelings for her were, and considering how recent his breakup with Nicole was when they started dating, he hadn't expected it to wind up nearly as serious as it has. She has become so incredibly important in his life in such a short amount of time it almost scares him, but he's not really one to run when he's scared, not anymore. Toby nodded. "It's okay, I'd probably be just as nervous as you are if I were you." he smiled at him softly and let out a low chuckle when he offered to play elf. As Tristan handed him his gifts, the dirty blonde turned around to face his new audience, giving his friend a bright grin, before choosing the one on the top of the pile. "It's from Jeremy," he announced as he went about carefully but efficiently unwrapping the present, and placing the wrapping paper on the ground. He opened up the box and smiled when he saw it's contents, pulling out the chef hat and putting it on his head immediately. "Thanks." he said, chuckling as he got more comfortable on the ground, crossing his legs. "There's another one," Jeremy pointed out, gesturing toward it eagerly. "Go on, open it." There was a silly eagerness in his tone that made Toby arch an eyebrow before he pulled the other box from him into his lap and unwrapped it. As he saw the contents of the box, he burst into laughter. "Oh my God."
Gwen/Tris: "You can't hide it from us, you have to show us. It can't be that embarrassing. I know my sisters got me some pretty embarrassing things since I was eighteen." Tristan leaned over, trying to get a peek at the item that remained in the wrapping.Ā Gwen picked up the discarded wrapping paper, crumpling it and tossing it gently in his direction. "Don't make us wait, or we'll just skip you."
Jeremy/Toby: "/That/ was unnecessary," Toby chuckled and threw the wrapping paper back at Gwen. "I was just in shock for a minute there." he laughed and pulled an apron out of the box, standing up, facing the other way so no one could see it before he turned back around, he slipped it on, awkwardly reaching around himself to tie it at the back and then turned around. He stood proudly before his friends. Jeremy hooped loudly and untangled himself from Gwen for a moment to punch the air. "You look fantastic!" he remarked enthusiastically. Toby smiled widely and shook his head. "What d'you think?" he asked. The question wasn't necessarily aimed at Toby... but it sort of was.
Gwen/Tris: "Oh no, he didn't give you an engagement ring did he?" Gwen teased, dodging the ball of paper. Once he had the apron tied properly, she clapped her hand over her mouth. Even though she knew what his gift was, it was something else entirely to see it on. She picked up her camera frantically off the table next to her, and snapped a quick photo. She looked over briefly at Tristan who obviously was trying not to turn any redder than he already was. "You look great. I expect you to wear at least the hat when you cook. Isn't that some kind of a unspoken chef rule that you have to wear the hat?"
Jeremy/Toby: Jeremy burst into hysteric laughter as he watched his girlfriend's reaction, squeezing in close so he could see the playback of the image. "Oh, man. This is going on the mantle." he chuckled, a wide grin on his face as he calmed down and sunk down on the couch so he could rest his head on Gwen's shoulder. Toby gave a soft smile to the other man and considered going over to snuggle into his shoulder the way Remy was doing to Gwen, to tell him not to be embarrassed, but decided against it and decided just to leave the thing on after he complimented him on it. "Well, probably, I've not been inducted into the secret society of chefs yet though, so I have absolutely no idea." he chuckled and arched an eyebrow at him before settling back to the floor, as things began to settle, apron and all to open Tristan's present. "This one's from Tristan," he announced, unwrapping it to reveal a book inside. "This'll come in handy." he said, a silly smile curving his lips upward as he made eye contact with him. He picked up the book and showed it to Gwen and Remy before turning his attention back to Tris. "Thank you. I hope I'll get to use it sometime."
Gwen/Tris: "Yeah that and the pictures we all take later with those crazy Christmas hats my father sent me. He's expecting some back for his own album." Gwen pressed a kiss into his hair, running her hand down his arm. Sometimes it was hard to remember they weren't the only two people in the room. "I hope you do see New York. It's an amazing place, even if you wander the city alone. That's probably the best way to do it actually. You don't need to worry about anyone else's itinerary but your own. " Gwen leaned over to get a closer look at the cover, nodding. "Did you ever get to New York, Gwen?" She nodded briefly, before responding that she had only seen the city long enough to take in a Broadway play. Ā "Okay, okay Tobias. Enough stalling." Gwen teased, nudging the last package towards him with her foot. "You've deliberately left mine for last haven't you?"
Jeremy/Toby: Jeremy chuckled as he leaned into the kiss. "Oh, that'll be a fantastic, I can't wait to add those to the collection," he smiled softly, and briefly squeezed her knee. He liked being with her; just being in her company was strangely relaxing. It was nice, just sitting next to her or talking to her on the phone, and when he wasn't with her, or he hadn't seen her in a while, it was just kind of like something was missing -- which sounded really cheesy even in his head, but it was true. Toby gave Tris a slightly crooked little grin, as he waved the guide book at him slightly. "That's really thoughtful, but I'm hoping you can still give me a list of destinations to hit." he smiled to acknowledge that Gwen had just nodded, and then laughed when she spoke. "You've caught me, I'm deliberately putting it off." he chuckled as the package nudged his knee, and whacked her gently on the shin with the book before setting it down and going to open her present, peeling off the wrapping paper at a painfully slow pace, before getting bored of it and pulling the rest of it off. "Oh, this is /brilliant/." he practically spit out the word in his excitement. "Thank you so much, Gwen." he smiled as he lifted the new microphone off the ground and showed it to everyone, a childlike look of excitement on his face.
Gwen/Tris: "Of course. I actually marked some of them in the book, and added notes for you. Just little tips, like the best time of day to show up at a certain place to avoid crowds and stuff like that. If you lose the accent you could be a true New Yorker with all the information I put in there. So don't let it get into the wrong hands, I don't want just anyone pretending to be a true New Yorker. I could get kicked out." Tristan teased, his smile wide while he shoved some stray wrapping paper off the seat next to him for Toby to join him. "Okay now who is next?"
Jeremy/Toby: Toby smiled. "Well, losing the accent might be a bit difficult, but maybe you could give me some training or something." he chuckled as he shoved some of the wrapping paper into a pile and grabbed his things before moving to sit next to him. "Because my American accent is terrible right now," he admits, trying and failing to do the accent as he speaks. Dropping the accent, he put his things on the floor before sitting back up and crossing his legs, getting comfortable on the couch. "Well god forbid you get kicked out of New York." he bumped his shoulder against his, a smile creeping across his face. "I nominate Gwen."
Gwen/Tris: "Oh, I'm afraid I couldn't help you with that. You might lose your accent permanently, and If you did I'd always hold myself responsible. I'd never forgive myself." Tris shrugged, chewing on his lower lip. "I worry about it, but everyone loves me so I doubt it will happen. " At the mention of her name the petite brunette snapped out of her trance, taking her pile gingerly out from under the tree. "Which one should I open first?" She pondered hovering her hand over each gift. "Okay this first one's from Toby." She stated, delicately removing the paper. "And it's... paper. Well that will be useful for writing, and by the way I do have some ideas about what to write about now. So hopefully you'll see a manuscript on these pages before too long." She reached for the second package from Toby, removing the paper as she had before. She shot Toby a glance, before properly removing the paper so everyone could see the contents. "An easy bake oven. You know, maybe we should test whatever desserts you made against what I can make with this easy bake. I might be better than you." She teased, walking over to him on her knees and giving him a hug. "Thanks Toby, they were really wonderful gifts."
Jeremy/Toby: Toby chuckled at this, and grabbed his glass of wine, which had previously been rested on the end table next to the couch. "Mm," he was strangely amused by the fact that he liked his accent so much, he found it ridiculously endearing for one reason or another. He had to admit, that he liked Tristan's accent a lot too. He gave him a silly smile. "Well, that's probably true. I don't know how they could kick you out when you're so well loved, it wouldn't be a very good move. Riots might break out." Jeremy and Toby watched intently as Gwen moved about the tree, and picked up the dirty blonde's gift. Jeremy barked out a loud laugh when he spotted the Easy Bake Oven, and gave Toby a look of approval, as he snapped a photo of his girlfriend's reaction. "Oh, man. That's great." he said. Toby smiled at her. "Challenge accepted, m'lady." he joked, smiling and leaning down so he could return her hug. "You're welcome, Gwen. I can't wait to see that manuscript."
Gwen/Tris: Gwen released Toby from her hug, moving back towards her pile of gifts. She picked up the one from Tristan, revealing a cookbook. "Oh this is lovely. I'll have to ask permission to be allowed to cook, but all these recipes look like they are exactly my speed. I'll let you know how they go when I try them." She glanced quickly over at Jeremy, before reaching for the first item that was part of his gift. It was an odd shaped package that was for sure. Unwrapping it she realized what it was. "A little bonsai tree, that's so sweet." Her smile had faded briefly, but it wouldn't be gone for long. The next less lumpy package turned out to be a typewriter. "Did you collaborate with Toby on this one? I'll have a hard time believing you if you say you didn't." She teased, reaching finally for the small envelope. "Did you write me a love note?" Gwen said, before actually getting a glimpse of what was inside. At a loss for words she practically jumped onto his lap, kissing him deeply. That would be thank you enough, for now at least. She'd give him a proper thank you later. A trip to Paris was usually an excuse for a romantic weekend away, but since she was unable to see her family at Christmas it would be a lovely trip for that. She would also use it to introduce Jeremy to them properly, if he was feeling up to it.
Jeremy/Toby: Toby chuckled as she commented that she'd have to ask permission to cook, and took a sip of his wine. "Well, if you promise not to burn down the kitchen, or permanently damage any of my kitchenware, I think you've got free range in the kitchen." he lowered his voice just slightly, as if in a sort of aside. "Just remember to leave the lid on the blender." Jeremy watched her as she opened her presents, nearly on the edge of his seat as she reached his presents for her. He took a few pictures of her initial reactions. "I thought you might like it," he said softly. As he watched her unwrap the typewriter, the smile on his face started to get slightly brighter, eager for her to get to the last one. "I did, he mentioned that he was buying you paper and I just sort of rolled with it." he waited, shaking his head very slightly as she asked him if he'd written her a love note. As she tacked him, he wrapped his arms around her back so she wouldn't fall and kissed her back, a smile on his lips the whole time. He played with the ends of her hair ever so slightly before pulling himself away from her. "And there's something else, but I couldn't exactly wrap it..." he bit his lip, watching her face, pausing for dramatic effect, completely forgetting that Toby and Tristan were even in the room. "My family is flying your family out for Christmas. Your aunt Charlotte said she couldn't make it but everyone else is... Well every one else is gonna be there."
Gwen/Tris: "You didn't." Gwen shot Jeremy a look for a instant before engaging him in another kiss. "You don't need to spoil me like this you know." Realizing that Toby and Tristan were probably sufficiently traumatized by their public displays of affection it was time to move on. "I know Toby is probably sick of having us around the house, so this is kind of a gift for both of you." Gwen reached blindly beside the couch and pulling something out of a purse. She held out a rustic looking key and pressed it into Jeremy's hand. "I found this cute little cottage in the Icelandic countryside for us to stay. Hopefully my family won't be looking to eat there or anything. It's big enough for two people at the maximum. But I'm sure they will have made their own arrangements. I just can't believe they are coming out to Iceland for a while. That really is the best gift, thank you Jeremy." She quickly turned her attention back to the other two men in the room. "Right, well I think we'd better be going now so we don't bother you too anymore with this. It's a good thing we weren't sitting together at dinner." She shifted her weight off of Jeremy, sitting properly next to him with her hands folded in her lap.
Jeremy/Toby: "Actually--" he started, a smile spreading across his face as she kissed him again, he laughed as their lips parted and she spoke again. "I like it." he teased giving her a quick kiss before leaving it at that, slowly becoming aware of the other people in the room. "Oh, that'll be fantastic," he said, taking the key and tightening his grip on it, and waiting until she got off of his lap, before slipping it into his pants pocket. "You're welcome." he said, a silly little grin spreading across his face as she sat beside him, a small chuckle escaping him at her comment. Toby cleared his throat after a minute and nodded. "Well, who wants to go next then?" he had finished his wine and had rested it on the end table.
Itās times like these that remind me how glad I am that I only have one sister. Sheās happy if she gets a gift that has nothing to do with kids.
That does sounds like a good idea, but maybe you should see if she wants to build it with a friend. Her friend Oskar likes Star Wars. Ā That would be a cute little activity for them. You could always one up that if need be and take her to the new Star Wars movie premiere, whenever that ends up being.
I know! I am sincerely looking forward to the day when Anita will just be happy with a sweater! The pressure'll finally be off. I mean, Erik isn't nearly as hard to shop for, he's happy with pretty much anything as long as it's plant-related. Anita's the only family member of mine that I really freak out about while looking for a gift.
That's a good idea, maybe we could invite him over to Christmas this year. He and Annie are practically attached at the hip at this point anyway, might as well facilitate it as best we can. I was thinking about doing that anyway, she'd probably lose her mind being in the same room as Harrison Ford. I can't even imagine. She'd be hysterical.Ā
As in like the kiddie ones, or an actual set that requires skill and knowing that you shouldnāt put the pieces in your mouth? Because the sets are kind of cool and many teenagers like them.Ā
That was a bit of a long answer, but no I donāt think sheās too old for lego. I know my sister wasnāt at seventeen. Is Annie still in to lego, thatās what you need to be asking yourself.
I found this gigantic set that's supposed to get put together into the Millennium Falcon. I figure since she liked the StarĀ Wars movies so much that she might like something Star Wars-y. And it might be something for us to do when we're done opening up gifts.Ā
I actually don't know, I mean, I bought her a lego set last year and she certainly didn't seem disappointed then, but a year has passed! She could have completely changed her opinion on the things now! She's a teenager, and god only knows how their minds work... I mean, she's still mentally probably about nine and a half aside from the boys are icky mentality - unfortunately... I don't know, she'd probably still like legos... What do you think though?
Do you reckon Annie's too old for me to get her Lego Bricks for Christmas now?
Gwen!
Thank you, I hope itās a good birthday. I hope that everyone enjoys the party I planned. You have your costume ready right?
I'm sure that you have nothing to worry about.Ā
If I have anything to say in it, your birthday will be absolutely terrific. I do! And I lookĀ wonderfulĀ in it.Ā
Gwen!
Happy Birthday!Ā
Like mother, like daughter.
65+ Ellie Kendrick gifs of varying size and quality. Like half of these are mine. There might be repeats.
The preparations for my birthday party have begun.
This is the first time Iāve planned it myself, I hope everyone enjoys themselves as much as I will.
I'm sure it'll be absolutely brilliant.Ā
What've you got planned so far?

Tristan, could we have a bit of a chat?
Thatās what Iām trying to do. Itās still somewhat casual between us. Only because Iāve been avoiding him a little bit, which of course stops thing from progressing like they would in a normal relationship.
I guess Iāll find out. Eventually, Iāll call Toby eventually and see when heās okay with actually going out for dinner. Right, even with the millions of other London residents. At least I still spend time with my Oxford classmates, otherwise Iād be a lot less grounded.
Well, definitely stop that. Even if there's a lot of things that are still sort of up in the air, and you've got a few problems with the whole royalty thing you've got to at least make an attempt to let the relationship grow. You and Toby both deserve a little happiness.Ā
I'm sure he'll be alright with it whenever you are. Yeah, well, you know. Maybe you've got a magnetism or something.
Tristan, could we have a bit of a chat?
Itās his family, I donāt really want to meddle too much with that. Itās not really my place. I probably should, but I donāt want to take things to that level so soon. The honeymoon phase if you will of the relationship is always the best, even if lately for obvious reasons we probably arenāt in that phase anymore.
Youāre probably right, but even if it does go away or calm down after a while the idea that Iāll never be able to have a simple night out followed by a walk with my boyfriend is a little upsetting. Or being able to go out grocery shopping, or with school friends for drinks without being hounded Ā by photographers. Iāve seen both Princess Diaries movies, I know the deal. That might be my reasoning behind everything, I mean Iāve never needed a lot and I like a simple life. I donāt want things to change. Ā I donāt think Iāll ever like it but I guess Iāll just need to try it and see. Iām still not exactly keen, but i wonāt be able to avoid it forever. My dorm has been getting a little lonely lately, and since I ran into a Irish duke or something recently Iāve accepted nothing will be normal ever again.
Well, you know, one day you might have to, depending on how serious things wind up being. You just have to remember that it's okay to touch on the subject if it's really bothering you. Valid point. Cherish the honeymoon period, try and stay in it as long as possible.Ā
I understand that. And it does take getting used to. I would even hazard to say that I haven't quite gotten used to it, and it does get annoying sometimes, but you know, you just sort of learn to ignore it most of the time, like white noise. Princess Diaries did just about nail it. There are quite a few royals in England, you know, because of Ivory Rose Academy. It was only likely you'd bump into a few of them in your time here.Ā
Tristan, could we have a bit of a chat?
I just donāt want his family to find out about us in a magazine. I know itās fairly common, but in my world everyone has always been very accepting of my sexuality. I just feel the need to try and change his parents mind, and springing it on them with the cover of a magazine wouldnāt make that any easier.
Iām not saying it will end right away, but it just seems like there is an end date out there waiting, even if Toby and I never have any problems between us. I should have stayed in the States, everything there is so much simpler.Ā
Thatās a pretty serious mix up, and Iām sorry to hear about your childhood and proper teenage years. Or lack thereof.. Nobody should have to go through that. Ā Even the magazines that are sold in Italy? The world might have a lot of royals, but Italy doesnāt. Even so, the idea of fifteen minutes of intense fame isnāt that appealing to me. And Iām probably jumping the gun, but what if Toby and I get really serious? Iām not royalty material, you are even with the life youāve had. Maybe itās just in your blood, but I donāt see the appeal in all those photo ops and fancy parties and castles and everything like that. Iāll end up accepting it because I want to be with him, but itās not something Iāll see myself enjoying.
Hopefully Toby has the foresight to talk to them about it before he tells the entire media about it. And even if he doesn't you know, you could probably talk to him about it, and he'll probably take your needs into account. Well, there's plenty of time to give that a shot.Ā
Have you told Toby about this? Not necessarily about the expiration date you feel the relationship has on it, but about the way you feel about his parents? That seems like it might be sort of an important conversation.Ā
Yeah, it was quite the mix up. There is actually a shockingly large collection of Italian royals. The family back there is absolutely gigantic. And besides, as soon as you get past the first few months or whatever, they'll be right back to talking about Duke Carlos Abalroado and his sweet Danish girlfriend. I know, it's not for every one, and you won't have all your privacy any more but you sort of develop a sense of humor about it after a while. I'm not a very jaded person, or at least, I like to think I'm not, but I think the whole press thing is rather amusing as it applies to me. I'm not very interesting, the only thing that's even remotely noteworthy about me right now is my relationship with Gwen and yet every time I'm spotted eating a bloody sandwich the world ends. I don't know, I don't know maybe, I just think I can handle it. Somehow.Ā
Well, you probably won't have to do that too much, every once and a while sure, but I doubt it'll be all that frequent and even if it is I doubt you'll have to go all the time. Especially if it bothers you. And who knows? You might wind up liking it, you might end up liking the people you meet, or spending the time with Toby. I personally hated all the PR stuff when I first started out, but there are some people who are just always at things like that and I've made a lot of friends because of it.
Tristan, could we have a bit of a chat?
Thereās no distance between us, Iām just busy with classes and Toby is busy baking or something. My feelings towards him have not changed.
Well yeah the fact that Toby is a Duke is a bit strange, considering it basically puts an expiry date on our relationship for one. Unless his family does a complete 180 and decides to accept Tobyās sexuality. I donāt care about the future beyond that, but Toby at least deserves to have his familyās acceptance. But Iām getting off topic.Ā
And itās not just my business, itās my entire familyās business. My mother and my sisters donāt deserve to have their lives become an open book for anyone just because of who I decided to date. And after I graduate, I want to have any future jobs I get just handed to me again because of who I am dating. You and Gwen try to have normal lives, and you might think itās the way normal people live but itās not. You got to go to Oxford or Harvard with very little effort iām sure. You may have had the grades, but if you didnāt like whatever course it was you could just apply again for another and not have to worry about the funds. I may as well have participated in The Hunger Games to get this scholarship, and it doesnāt even cover my rent or groceries and other necessities.Ā
Sorry, sorry. Go ahead, Iāll listen to what you have to say.
Well, maybe distance isn't such a good word, but I think you understand what I mean. Good. I'm glad to hear that I really am, because Toby likes you quite a lot.Ā
I can imagine that's a bit weird for you. Well, I don't think that if things don't change between him and his parents that means that the relationship needs to end. Toby's been able to live with them disapproving of... or overallĀ ignoringĀ who he is for twenty-seven years, it's not a good thing, but I'm willing to suppose he'd be more or less used to it by now.Ā
To say everything's been handed to me would be... a bit... well inaccurate. You know, I've just realized I haven't had... that conversation with you yet, might as well tie it in.
I... grew up in an orphanage. My mum died in a car accident, with me in the car, and due to some sort of insane mix up, I wound up in an orphanage in Iceland instead of back home with my dad. So I grew up like a normal person. You know, minus the parents, minus the comfort, minus the comfortable well-fitting clothes, etc. I ran away from there at thirteen, spent a bit of time by myself, hiding away in this little barn I knew about, for a couple days, you know just in case people were looking for me, and then I sort of peeked my head out and went around trying to find some place to stay, and this really nice lady let me stay with her until I was about fifteen. I got a job then, at this little shop in town, and then when I had a steady enough income, I got emancipated and I moved into my own place.Ā
I had to budget everything myself for years. And then, I became a painter, gained some popularity, ended up travelling quite a bit and found my dad in the process. I'm not exactly... I didn't exactly always have things easy.Ā I got lucky at the end there but for a while... I wasn't exactly what you'd call a fortunate person.Ā
Regardless, I understand the feeling. When everything went public all sorts of things happened, and all of my friends got examined by the tabloids with a microscope, but it really, honestly, the hype will die down. It's not going to be forever that people are dwelling on just you and Toby. There is quite a collection of royals in this world, and tabloids can't focus on just the one.Ā
Tristan, could we have a bit of a chat?
Youāre not going to tell me something that you want me to tell Gwen and Toby, and then vanish are you? Because Iām not sure I can handle that kind of responsibility.
No, nothing like that. If I was going to vanish, I think I'd write a three or four page letter.
Don't worry, it is definitely nothing thatĀ huge.Ā It's just that I think we should talk about the -- the -- the uhm... It's not super obvious or anything, definitely nothing to worry about but, I've sort of noticed, that there's a... distance. Between you and Toby lately, and although Gwen absolutely refuses to tell me what's going on, I'm willing to bet it's got something to do with the whole... royalty thing. You know, the "if we make things public then the whole world will be in on my personal business"... thing. Have I got it right or are you just feuding about something like... I don't know... dirty socks or something? Because I mean, I've got some insights on the... "personal business" thing. If you want to talk to someone, about it.
Tristan, could we have a bit of a chat?
Won't take even a minute, just wanna... start a bit of a conversation here that might be... important, later.Ā
