“A man with confidence I appreciate that,” she said with a smile. “I guess I do look pretty good compared to some other people. Don’t beat yourself up, babe. You could probably be a way worse date than you actually are.”

”I’ve got my reasons to be the way I am.” He offered a grin, tilting his chin the slightest bit upwards. “Absolutely. I’m sure your date is bumping heads against a wall because he lost you to the crowd. And hopefully I can make it up to my date for almost being the worst.”

“Hey. Hey, you. You seen a dude, ‘bout 5′9, blonde hair, looks like he owns me money?”

”I… wasn’t paying attention. Does he look homeless?”

“It’s not broken.. Don’t give me that look.. I’m fine.”

”Whatever you say man, it’s not my arm.”

delilah-barnett:

Talking about her adoptive parents changed Delilah, her voice got softer and the usual tension in her shoulders seemed to lift. “She’s really good, she’s retiring soon so she’s really looking forward to that. They’re thinking about selling the house and getting something smaller also even talking about going on a cruise but I told them that was too much of a cliche.” The Barnetts had taken her in when no one else would and for that reason enough, she owed them respect and as much love as she could  “She asks about you, says you should come to dinner, don’t worry I told her you’re far too busy for that.” Her drink tipped back against her lips as he pushed past the question and returned one of his own. “One dance.” She responded hesitantly placing her hand in his. It was a familiar warmth the usual touch that she had missed but she would never ask for it out loud. “Thank you for this by the way, for asking me I guess is what I’m trying to say” 

He couldn’t help the smile that tugged at his lips when she spoke, no matter how many things weighed down on his shoulders, listening Delilah when she talked about family was one of the best things in the world for him. He’d met her in the middle of her struggles and he’d done his best to love her every step of the way, the Barnetts had done so much better than him in the end. “Wow it’s really been too long.” He admitted with a sigh, he hadn’t thought too much about it till then, how long it had been since he last saw her, last kissed her, last hurted her. “I can always make time for Catherine, and you.” Jeremy offered a genuine smile for the first time in the night, thankful she’d grabbed his hand as he pulled her up and a bit closer to him. She was one of the few people left who understood him and cared in the slightest, he didn’t wanna lose her, he didn’t wanna hurt her again- not when he didn’t have anything else. “Thank you for saying yes, there was no one I’d rather be here with.”

“It works well on you though,” she replied looking him up and down. “Meanwhile I look like everyone’s least favorite housewife.” She looked down at her outfit brushing imaginary lint off the fabric. “I mean I think we could be a lot worse. I’ve heard quite a few date horror stories.”

”Everything looks good on me, sweetheart. Hate to disappoint, but you look wonderful too.” He offered the smallest of smiles which faded as soon as his glass met his lips. “Definitely, but I’m not even close to being a good date tonight.”

Leah handed him the list and pointed to one of the items. “The third item down, but I think it might be a misprint since I can’t find it. Have you found any of the items on your list?”

He looked down at the list before shaking his head, his brows furrowing as he did so. “I gave up on mine, this game’s actually fucking stupid.”

Jer: Not like it’s your business, but I’m not counting them either.

“Oh please, a suit is a suit. I’m basically in something only an Amish women would wear,” she sighed dramatically. “I suppose I should be drinking with my date too. Guess I’m not great at this whole date thing.”

”A suit that’s not fitting at all, everything’s at least two sizes bigger than it should be.” Jeremy complained with a heavy sigh before relazing just a bit and nodding to her words. “Everyone’s bad at the date thing apparently. Who did you come with?”

“ No no no, I hear what you’re saying but uh…. I don’t think I’m all that great of a dancer.”

“Who the fuck cares? I mean that girl was super into your moves whether they sucked or not, man.”

leah-andrews:

“You know what? I give up on this stupid scavenger hunt.” Leah sighed, setting down her list in front of her. “I’ve been looking for the first item for about thirty minutes now and nothing. I bet they don’t even have the items here, they just want to see us roaming around looking like a bunch of idiots.”

”Probably true.” He agreed with her without paying much more attention to anything other than the drink he had been nursing. “What were you looking for?”

delilah-barnett:

The pair had gone to a few events before when they were still dating, it usually ended up with her asking to dip out early as the crowds weren’t her favorite and she hated comparing her hand-me-down dresses to the expensive ones all the other girls seemed to wear. It was a flashback to the past now that they were together again but it was still uncomfortable as she looked around all the people who could have been a better date than she was. His apology brought her out of her thoughts, almost as if he was shaking her awake. “You’re fine,” she mumbled out taking the drink and having a small sip. Her cheap lipstick left a clear line around the brim as she placed it back down on the table. “It’s Catherine’s dress, she sewed it to fit me.” The Barnetts had been nothing but kind to her even til this day when they heard the news that Jermey had asked her, she quickly went into sewing and taking her measurements. “Your mind is on something, what is it?” She knew him like the back of her hand and she was proud that she could still read his tells. 

He finished his glass in one sip, placing it on the table soon as it was empty. Jeremy tended to drink too much these days, bad things just kept happening around him and it all added to a very long list of tragedies and mistakes. Alcohol seemed like a fairly good exit door any given time, but he had already put Delilah in the awkward position of having to take care of his drunk self and he wasn’t about to put her up to it once more. “It’s perfect, fits you very well. How’s she doing?” The man was honest about each and every one of his compliments to her, asides from Gabrielle she remained the only other girl he’d actually had eyes for. He flirted around a lot and slept with women he barely knew, but none had he wanted to spend his life with other than the brunette standing in front of him- the shadow of a smile formed on his lips before disappearing just as quick when she asked. Jeremy wanted to tell her, she would uderstand he was sure, but it was not the time nor place. “A lot, I’m sorry about that. I’m here with you now, allow me this dance?” He asked her politely, though he stepped closer to get a hold of her hand gently as he could, offering an actual smile even if small, trying to take in the moments with her before the night was over.

When the man turned around, Landon instantly recognized him as the man who had appeared to be Delilah’s date. He swallowed his drink hard, the muscles in his neck tightening. “I don’t really fucking care why you are.”

”Well then what the fuck are you doing here, man?” He questioned, getting annoyed at the man’s presence, not really feeling like dealing with anyone he didn’t have to that night. “It’s a stupid fucking game and you’re commenting on my progress?”

“You’re not even fucking close,” Landon took a sip of his bourbon, sitting on a haystack watching as the other looked for one of the antique items on the list.

“No shit,” Jeremy replied with a roll of his eyes, putting his foot down and turning to him. “Why am I even playing this stupid game?”

“God if I had known that 1940′s fashion is so conservative I wouldn’t have shown up,” Savannah said as she fussed with her outfit. She usually loved a costume party, but this wasn’t usually her go to. “Whatever, just tell me I look hot so we can get drinks.”

”It’s worse for us guys.” Jeremy pointed out, fixing his suit jacket as he shrugged his shoulder. “Actually, I can’t. Brought a lovely lady and I should be drinking with her instead, I suppose.”

He had intended for this to be a really enjoyable night, especially since Delilah had agreed to go with him. He wasn’t sure why he’d asked, it was almost obvious they were not a thing or anywhere close to being back together at all, but he’d asked because she was constantly in his mind and she’d said yes so it had to be a good night. Unfortunately though, the beautiful brunette he’d once called his girlfriend wasn’t the only thing in his mind seeing as Naomi had shown up unnanounced at his door moments before he left. “I’m sorry,” Jeremy allowed as he cleared his throat, breaking a somewhat uncomfortable silence, handing his date a glass of champagne. “Figured you’d wanna drink with how terrible of a date you’ve got.” His eyes found hers after his gaze had been fixed on the floor a little too long and he gave the brunette a small smile. “You look beautiful, you are beautiful.”

Jeremy: Not rude, just honest. I actually like frowning, no anti-wrinkle cream's going to get rid of it.
