NAME: Jessa Clarke
AGE: Thirty-Three
LOYALTY: Galvani Mafia
EMPLOYMENT: Doctor
Jessa always preferred the finer things in life. Raised in the mafia, her mother was always well respected, and her father always feared. It was strange, being the child of a healer and a killer, but that was just how Jessa’s world worked. Ever since she could remember, she was wearing her mother’s heels and pearls, walking around wanting to be nothing else but her. She idolized her mother, worshiped the ground she walked on. She was always playing doctor with her little brother, being sure to look good while doing so. As she got older, she fell into the mafia life. By the time she was in high school, Jessa was helping her mother deal with everything from bullet wounds to broken bones and overdoses, learning all the medical jargon before she was even pre-med. It certainly made it easier to deal with the high pressure her program demanded, but one night of her undergrad still gives her nightmares. Seeing her boyfriend’s little sister overdose was absolutely terrifying. Jessa really couldn’t do anything to help her mother at the time and all she wanted to do was help Carson calm down. He clearly blamed himself, but she assured him that Katherine would be fine. Eventually.
That was the first time Jessa ever realized why people wouldn’t want to be involved with the Galvanis. All her life, through every death, gunshot and bruised face, peopleactually got hurt. It wasn’t a game, and that only influenced her more in her desire to become a doctor. Though, it only made her more understanding when her brother told her he wanted an out. Kiefer was smart. He didn’t want to follow in their father’s footsteps. A killer Kiefer wasn’t. Whenever her parents pried her on his whereabouts, she kept his secret. If he didn’t want to be a part of the mafia, that was his choice and she did nothing but support it. Though, she couldn’t help but admit she was glad when he came back. While Carson was always there for her, Jessa needed her brother too. There were certain things a sister could only share and talk about with her sibling. That was just the way it was.
Jessa can’t remember a time when she and Carson Schafer weren’t together. The life he grew up in was so much more challenging that hers, and Jessa always appreciated his strength and dedication to his sister. It’s one of the reasons she was so sure he’d make a great father. Why he’s so against it, she will never understand. Lately, it’s been a cause of great stress between them. Not being on the same page as your spouse on a matter as big as a child could be detrimental.
Jessa and Kiefer were best friends growing up despite their six year age difference. They looked out for each other, and Kiefer never judged her for wanting to stay in the mafia when he was so adamantly against it. Now that he’s back in Chicago, he’s helping her deal with the fact that her husband doesn’t want children. It’s something that has been weighing on Jessa for years now. She wants a child, and Kiefer is the only one who seems to understand that.
