i need to get this out of my head and internet arguments are pointless plus i hate arguing in the comments of someone else’s post so i’m moving my thoughts to a different platform. but someone on tiktok was trying to argue that it is out of character for Wyll to not basically immediately kill Astarion after learning he’s a vampire spawn, simply because Wyll is a monster hunter. i’m not even mad about this as an Astarion girlie. i’m mad about this because that’s absolutely not within Wyll’s character.
in Astarion’s origin!!! Wyll is like “yeah i clocked that shit immediately” BUT HE DIDNT ATTACK HIM!!!
when you first meet Wyll, he tells you that he won’t let anything stand in the way of him killing Karlach. it takes one (1) five minute conversation after meeting Karlach for Wyll to decide to defy Mizora and not kill her. AND WYLL STANDS BY THAT DECISION EVEN AFTER HIS PUNISHMENT!!! BECAUSE WYLL IS A FORGIVING PERSON!! hells, he barely thinks before forgiving his father!! if he even thinks he has anything to forgive him for to begin with!!!
if you’re playing as Tav/Durge, then by Bite Night, which is a number of days after meeting Astarion, Wyll already knows that Astarion is not really a threat to the party. and thats exactly why he spares Karlach too! he realizes that she is not a threat and deserves a chance!
even the Gur, who, let me remind you, ARE ALSO MONSTER HUNTERS, ones who historically hate ASTARION SPECIFICALLY, who know that Astarion is a vampire spawn, do not attack him on sight when you visit their camp in act 3. and Astarion STOLE ALL OF THEIR CHILDREN (mind controlled or not they clearly hold resentment).
AND YES Wyll has a dark side sometimes. He enjoys killing the goblins actually. hes allowed to be emo sometimes, literally all of them have dark sides. when you first meet Karlach, she nearly explodes from pure rage. she’s ready to blow up Gortash on sight! good for her!
THE ENTIRE TEAM is made up of people who absolutely would NOT get along under normal circumstances. but we’re all like “well we’re in this tadpole shit together. it’s not ideal but it could be easier if we work together.”
the person i disagreed with on tiktok (who since deleted their comment) basically said “open the schools!! Wyll is a monster hunter!! so he should kill Astarion immediately bc he’s a monster hunter!” which completely ignores the… Wyllness of Wyll.
again. this is not even me being an Astarion fan - which they seemed to assume was the only reason i’m saying any of this. it’s just that. Wyll is not a “stab first, ask questions later” character like Lae’zel or Minthara. if given the opportunity, Wyll gives people chances. because he’s Wyll.
