QUT Ethics Approval Number 1500000523
The purpose of this PhD Visual Arts research is to create a patchwork quilt through voluntarily submitted personal stories addressing the experience of having an eating disorder. These stories may take the form of an anonymous submission to thepatchworkproject.net, or a physical embroidered submission through the postal system. The quilt will enable the researcher to better understand how craftivism – craft and activism used together for social purpose – can help tell a story, and create a new conversation by inviting people from within the communities to share, and also through examining the processes used.
The resultant quilt will be exhibited alongside another project which responds to the content within your submissions. Furthermore, submissions will be published on this blog, and linked from the facebook page.
This project is open for female identified participants whose lives have been affected by an eating disorder or disordered eating behaviours.
Please visit the Project Description page for more information
You can ask questions anonymously at any time.
Also, Please reblog, share, and signal boost this project!

Crafting the Body is a Zine I created in line with my presentation at Geek Girl Con in seattle this year. The 42 page A5 Zine explores issues relating to the body in media and language, alongside how craft can be used to explore these ideas. All of it comes from my PhD research! There are some artworks which have been contributed by other amazing creators, and each Zine comes with it’s own little craftivist pack. The zine features: - an exploration of language used on the cover of tabloid magazines, -Embroidery and Cross Stitch 101’s, - an essay on fat suits and fat shaming, - Art Work - Disordered eating fact sheets - An Introduction to Craftivism and more.

This baby is on etsy! It come’s with a little craftivist pack, and I will throw in an art print and a surprise!
This beautiful little monkey lives in Monkey Forest in Ubud, Bali. While all the other tourists and monkeys are racing around getting in each others personal space. She is having some quiet time to reflect while I stand a few feet away to quietly capture this peaceful moment. I wonder what she is thinking about. I feel the sadness in her eyes as we both quietly think about the world around us.

The Creative Project
The purpose of this project is to create a patchwork quilt through voluntarily submitted personal stories about the experience of living with an Eating Disorder. These stories may take the form of an anonymous digital submission to thepatchworkproject.tumblr.com, or a physical embroidered submission through the postal system. The quilt will bring together the stories of Eating Disorder sufferers around the world, to form a collective narrative. It aims to both change and create a new conversation regarding eating disorders. The project facilitator – Jess – is herself a disorder sufferer, and she hopes that her own experience helps others feel safe to share their experiences as there is no judgement – just a collective wish to find more proactive ways to address eating disorders in the community in order to facilitate more effective treatment options by way of better understanding.
A zine is also being created alongside the project to be distributed at events, such as GeekGirlCon, where I am presenting and running a craftivist workshop in October. The Zine will briefly explain  craftivist methods and techniques for the project, as well as address body image issues.
OKAY!!!! It has taken a few hours today, and a LOT of thinking and consideration in the last 24 hours to launch this baby. I am wary of the 21 day frame, but am hopeful Tumblr will do what it does.Â
New amazing rewards, for an incredible PhD project
