After the Superhydrophobic Street Art, which uses a superhydrophobic coating to create designs which appear only in the rain, here is the Project Monsoon, which uses the same concept, this time with hydrochromic painting, which reveals its color only when wet. This amazing and clever project was designed by a Korean team of designers, in collaboration with Pantone, to provide color to the streets of Seoul during the rainy season, while paying tribute to the Korean culture. How Many Feathers Do I Need For My Project?

I recently had a project that involved utilizing goose feathers. Since buying feathers in large quantities can get costly I didn’t want to over order. I looked high and low trying to find a tutorial that could give me some math that i could use to estimate how many feathers I would need. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find anything useful. So, in the process of making my own project I created a little tutorial to help others get an estimate of how many feather to buy for their own projects.

How Large is the Average Goose Feather?

Goose feathers rage is size from about 8-10" with the quill extending another 2". Here are a few feather of roughly the same size laid out on a 12"x12" grid.

I almost flaked out on this costume before I got halfway through the planning phase. It’s been done before, by some very STUNNING cosplayers, and while I’m hardly ashamed of my body (a size 14/16: 185lbs at 5'3" is overweight, but nothing terrible), there was a small part of me that worried that it wouldn’t turn out because I could never pull something so lithe and delicately flighty off.

Obviously, I went through with it anyway. And minus a few of the setbacks, I’m absolutely thrilled that it turned out as well as it did. (Though some of us are terrible self-critics, and I’m sure I could nitpick this to death.) And the reception was far better than I’d expected at all! But I also want to seriously thank you for this blog existing at all. I think we all need a little reaffirmation that we don’t need to be model thin to look good, or share cosplay as a hobby.
