Meet Newton our newest bunny transferred from our partner rescue, A Critter’s Chance (ACC) located in Indianapolis.

ACC rescued Newton when someone called to see if they could take a stray bunny with some issues they had found out in the country. When ACC took him to our mutual vet for a check-up the vet said “that’s a Pipsqueakery bunny,” and she was right!

Newton is a hot mess of a bunny. He’s got neurological issues. When he hops around it’s really just in circles. He’s also kinda bald all over his back and head. We think the hair on his back will probably grow back, but we honestly aren’t sure about the hair on his head.

He also has congenital micropthalmia (his eyes are very small) to the point where he is blind. I mean you can honestly barely see his eyes in the sockets. Plus, he makes fantastic snorting and grunting sounds fairly often when he breathes. However since he’s already been through a course of antibiotics already and there’s no real signs of a URI we think it’s probably a facial deformity causing the excessive noise.

I think his back legs also aren’t quite right though they’re not significantly visibly deformed. He’s also probably cryptorchid (potentially intersex, but cryptorchid is more likely) meaning his testicles haven’t descended which has a pretty significantly increased risk of cancer if they aren’t removed. Oh, and to top it all off, the vet thinks he probably has dental disease or is very likely to develop it due to the facial deformities, but we won’t know for sure until he has a sedated exam or a CT scan.

So, do think he belongs at The Pipsqueakery? Because I think he was pretty much meant to be here. Please give Newton a warm welcome and consider donating to our fundraiser to build a facility in his honor, because it’s only because of people like you that we can save animals like him.
