I’m not saying I’m gonna kill someone if they don’t give Jessica a redemption arc…I’m just saying I’m gonna kill someone if they don’t give Jessica a redemption arc.
I see a lot of people who automatically think Jessica is evil and awful and basically another Emma because of her association with Rittenhouse, and the obvious solution is that she needs to be killed off. I think that’s hella lazy writing, and a waste of the character.
- Jessica was indoctrinated by Rittenhouse from childhood, specifically to use as a weapon against Wyatt and therefore the time team. She didn’t choose her involvement with them, and yeah, if you’re “born” into that sort of organization, of course you’ll see them as your family. It’s a bit like being raised in a hyper religious household (*raises hand*) - it’s all you’ve ever known, and you don’t know enough yet to question it until you get older and it starts to conflict with your world view and values (*raises hand again*). And to not only break away from that, but to lose all of your ‘family’ in the process, is incredibly hard. It’s scary. And she never had a reason to challenge how she felt about her 'family’ until Wyatt came back fully aware of Rittenhouse and telling her they might actually suck a bit. We have no idea how much she was actually aware of, as well; she doesn’t seem to be particularly high up in the organization, just another sleeper agent essentially.
- In every scene after Jessica reveals herself as a double-agent (including literally that scene, where she kidnaps Jiya), she struck me as being incredibly conflicted, you can see it on her face. She’s shocked when Emma shoots Nicholas and Carol, she seems frightened/wary as she follows Emma around after that, and you can see when Wyatt confronts her in the alley that there’s a part of her that desperately just wants to go with him (right down to her telling him that she does love him - I think she’s telling the truth). I think this is actually someone who had just had their world view challenged (spending a few weeks in the bunker with the time team, getting to know this new Wyatt who was actually a good husband…coughsortof), and doesn’t quite know what to do, so she goes with her original mission - but in a way that she doesn’t have to actually hurt anyone. She was meant to kill everyone in the bunker, but instead she figures out how to steal the Lifeboat and get them (Rittenhouse) a spare pilot, and even emphasizes to Jiya that they won’t hurt her if she cooperates. She obviously knew Wyatt and others were starting to suspect her so she had to move quickly, but I think she was probably meant to carry out her mission ages ago, and just waited because she was enjoying the domestic bliss she had with her husband for that brief period of time.
- Wyatt very clearly had his wife on a bit of a pedestal/rose colored glasses after her death (which she says outright when she’s trying to divorce him), but he insists she is the person he sees her as. When he goes back to break up the killer’s parents, he tells Rufus tearfully that Jessica would hate everything he was doing.
- And we see in various dialogue snippets that Wyatt was…kind of a shithead. Jealous, drank too much (likely related to his PTSD), picked fights, had immature overreactions (leaving her behind on the road after she told him to stop the car), and was secretive to the point that his wife felt like she didn’t know him. Obviously we know that changes with her death as a catalyst, but in Jessica’s life (in altered timeline) Wyatt has always been that way. Not only do I not blame her for wanting a divorce, I also am not shocked that she would have accepted the mission in the bunker in the first place. A bunch of people she doesn’t know that are trying to hurt her 'family’ (people that her family are telling her directly are Evil and Bad), and this godawful husband that you’re sick of dealing with the shit of. She just didn’t foresee that Wyatt would have genuinely been different, and that they’d actually reconcile, and she DEFINITELY didn’t expect to get pregnant.
- This is a character that is ripe for a redemption arc. I feel like it would be so incredibly easy to write her one (perhaps not in a 2 hour finale, but if there was a season 3). Wyatt winning her back to their side, convincing her to give up on Rittenhouse - it would show him having changed/being a decent guy (actually trying to save his family vs. 'well guess I’ll go make things more complicated with Lucy now’), and would allow Jessica to show she’s the person Wyatt thinks she is/that she is innately a good person who just needs to break free of the cult she’s been raised in her whole life (a cult that can KILL HER, mind you, which is even more terrifying). I think she feels afloat at the moment - sticking with Rittenhouse because she has no idea what to do or what to believe anymore, but starting to drift further to the side of wanting to cut ties with them, especially under Emma’s leadership (since we know Emma, despite her clear childhood trauma, is a bit bloodthirsty).
- Furthermore - she’s now pregnant. Whether she’s Rittenhouse or not, that’s Wyatt’s baby. Going back and killing her, even if it was prior to her pregnancy - they may as well be murdering Wyatt’s baby. He knows there’s a baby, he’s started to get attached, and just 'getting rid of’ the wife he still loves and their baby is a lazy solution to shoving Lyatt together. As for whether she’s actually pregnant, I believe her that she is - she was alone in that alley with Wyatt and about to get away, she had no reason to keep the lie going unless it wasn’t a lie at all.
- And imagine how cool a season would be if Jessica joined the time team - another female presence in the bunker to be buddies with Jiya and (eventually) Lucy, useful for intel like Flynn (knows the inner workings of Rittenhouse), could potentially go on missions eventually as she clearly can handle a gun and could probably even trick sleeper agents here and there who aren’t aware yet that Jessica’s loyalties changed. Not to mention the baby and how you could play with that scenario (maybe the time travel has an effect on the pregnancy somehow since they’ve never had a pregnant woman jumping through time, or baby gets kidnapped even). She’s a fun narrative tool (much like Flynn was when added to the time team), and an interesting character in her own right if used well. And even if you didn’t want to add her to the time team, you could easily have her starting another anti-Rittenhouse faction or something, because clearly their 'rebellion’ gets a bit bigger (otherwise IDK why Lucy is running around toting a sawed off shotgun and bandolier 5 years from now).
In conclusion: Jessica Logan deserves better than to be fridged. It’s a waste of potential and lazy writing.
If there’s ONE thing I’m praying for in the Timeless move it’s NO FAKE BABY! Please! Jessica was already: wyatt’s sob story, the ‘obsticle’ to a ship, and now conveniently the 'bad guy.’ I mean, seriously, can we actually have a compelling story for this amazing character??
I don't know why people hate Jessica. She handed Wyatt divorce papers. He could have signed on the dotted line and let her go. How is it more her fault that he didn't let her go?
Jessica never asked Wyatt to be with her. In fact, she asked for the EXACT opposite. She asked for a divorce. WYATT was the one that bEgGeD her to stay, to give him another chance. I get that he had her back and that was amazing for him. After six years, two of those with a time machine and trying to do anything he could, she's back!! He's incredibly happy. But he finds out he's been a horrible husband. He was never there, he was drunk "five nights a week", he was jealous (that's a big one for me BC it shows tHrOuGhOuT this season). I feel like when she told him all of that...yes, give her an explanation, tell her you are literally not the same man and let. her. go. Maybe someday she'll forgive. If you love her, let her go. You can't change her timeline. There will always be that six year gap. Then the phone call to Lucy? "Yeah but you and me..." Yeah buddy, you and her. Sign the papers, tell her you love Jessica; it was good to see her, maybe we can stay in touch? Friends? and go back to Lucy, if that's what you want. You can't have both. (Of course with her turning out to be Rittenhouse—which I'm still very upset about—it was all part of the plan.) Jessica being Rittenhouse. In this new, current timeline she was raised in Rittenhouse. She doesn't know anything else. Brainwashed. And while yes, that doesn't exclude murder (though, that we know of, she hasn't killed anyone.) but it's what happened.I don't understand why people blame Jessica for all of Wyatt's problems. They don't have their facts straight.

Jessica's nails drummed on the desk. A satisfying noise that she could honestly listen to all day long. She was boring easily today, though. She huffed and looked at her watch. (12:56pm) Emma had been gone for 4 hours. Something has either gone wrong, or she has everything under complete control and is just making a show of everything. Jessica rolled her eyes, thinking of the last time Emma had done just that, and sighed. She was hungry, but there was nothing to eat here and she couldn't go get something. She was tired but she couldn't sleep, on account of Emma appointing her watch-dog.
Her hand that was drumming on the table, lowered to her swollen belly. The being inside reacted promptly to the sensation and gave Jessica a swift kick. "Woah, little dude." She yawned. "It's just me."
She grabbed her phone—yes, she was allowed her phone and basically free access to anything. Besides, Emma doesn't have to know about everything. Lazily and mindlessly, swiping her pattern to unlock it, she opened her camera and tried to record the baby reacting to her touch. Smiling as she caught two kicks, she stopped the video and sent it to her husband. In the message box below, she wrote, Four months.
She felt like crying, when she was done. (Hormones mostly.) She missed her husband dearly, and she so wanted him to be apart of her pregnancy and more importantly the child's life. She had no idea if he got her texts, if he looked at them. If they made him happy to see the development of his baby. Did he care care at all?
Surely he did. Surely. They way he looked at her in the alley, the way he sounded...surely he meant it. She tried to stay in touch—behind Emma's back, she'll have you know—but it was radio silence from him.
Four months later...
Jessica usually kept her distance from Emma. It's not that she didn't like her, it's just...Emma rubbed her the wrong way. Everything Wyatt told her about his Jessica and all the time they had spent together, made her question. Hell, that night in Chinatown made her question everything. (She couldn't do anything about it, though. And she wasn't about to risk the life of her unborn child.) So she just kept her distance, and came when called.
Earlier in this afternoon, Emma was pissed. And not "I Broke My Mom's Favourite Dish And Now I'm Grounded For Life" pissed but "I Crashed Dad's Truck Into A Tree and I'll Be Lucky If I Live Through The Night" pissed. Jessica's whole body tensed and her hands instinctively flew to her very pronounced, round belly.
"The bitch!" She yelled. She tugged at her hair, and honestly looked like a child. Jessica bit her lip. "And the...bastards."
Jessica didn't ask what happened. She never asked. She let Emma cool off and if she wanted to talk, Jessica would talk with her. (It was never anything personal. Always business—Rittenhouse—related.)
Tonight, Jessica was playing Beer Pong (because what else?) on her phone, on the crappy couch, when Emma finally spoke up. She sat across the room, at the desk. The computer screen lit up her face.
"You know, we can't keep it, right? We can't." It was an out of the blue statement that was said so nonchalantly. With no care—she didn't even look at Jess. "It was an accident."
Jessica's heart sped up. She had a feeling she knew what Emma was talking about, but for safe measure she asked, "Excuse me? What?"
Emma's eyes flickered to her but only for a nanosecond. "The baby," She clarified. "We can't keep it."
Jessica set aside her phone and tried to calm herself down, mentally. No, no, no, no. She sat up straighter, willed tears not to fall at the mere idea.
"What? Why?" She didn't exactly yell, but her voice was louder than before.
"Because, Jessica," Emma now turned to her. "I didn't really like you. But I kept you around because I could use the back up. You're a good asset and damn good with a gun. But now you've gotten yourself knocked up and are barely any help. When it arrives, you sure as hell won't be able to do anything."
Jessica couldn't even speak. Her heart jumped to her throat. (This stress wasn't good for the baby, she told herself. She needed to calm down.) She shook her head. "No, no." Louder again, "I figured we could raise it here—in Rittenhouse. Become an asset, an agent. I—"
"What is a newborn going to provide to Rittenhouse?"
"Well, obviously not as a newborn. He—or she—would have to be considerably older," She was speaking quickly. Her sentences blurred together. She tried to say anything and everything that would get this ridiculous notion out of her head. Rittenhouse, the baby could grow up in Rittenhouse. "But maybe in 13 years, it could be helpful—"
"That's 13 years, Jessica. I cannot wait that long. I don't have the time nor the patience."
Jessica was on the verge of tears but she wiped then away and shook her head once more. "No."
"Yes," Emma said. "That's what Rittenhouse is about—sacrifice. Sacrifice for the greater good. When was the last time you truly sacrificed something?"
"My husband!" That time she did yell and maybe one stray tear fell. "My husband."
"Please. Save the hormonal drama. The baby isn't staying. That's final."
Rather childishly, Jessica grabbed her phone and ran to the other room. Jessica cried herself to sleep and Emma felt a clench in the stomach. But she ignored it, as usual.
3 weeks later...
Newborn baby smell was amazing, it was almost indescribable. It was joy; Jess couldn't be happier. It was relief; she was no longer pregnant. It was bittersweet; she would no longer feel the baby moving inside of her but now she got to hold it. It was sadness; Emma was going to take it away.
Jessica was not prepared for this baby. No matter how much she wanted to be, how often she tried to leave, Emma didn't let her. "It's not staying, so you don't need anything," She would say.
Emma had left for a trip that she said she was going to be gone for longer than usual. The baby had come early. (Jessica delivered it herself. Scared witless but she had read enough that she was somewhat confident that she could do it.) Tears rolled freely. She couldn't give this baby up. She had tried to detach herself from it. Had stopped sending Wyatt updates, videos and pictures. But when the little thing screamed and took its first breath...it was overwhelming. She could never give up this child.
She cleaned the baby off best as she could, cleaned herself up and hobbled to her room. She grabbed her phone and, with shaky hands, punched in Wyatt's number. The baby fell asleep against her chest and a sob escaped her throat.
Wyatt didn't answer. He never did.
She looked around and made a quick decision.
Run.
She limped around, still very sore and tender—she really shouldn't be walking—she grabbed a basket and a towel, laid the baby inside the basket and grabbed the keys that Emma did not "hide".
She grabbed the basket and headed for the door. She didn't spare one look back as she hopped in the jet black vehicle. Before starting the car, she took the SIM card out of her phone and chucked it at the building—somewhat angrily. The phone was completely useless now except for the memories it held.
It scared the ever living crap out of Jessica to put her hour-old baby in a basket in the floorboard of the car. She drove fast and with purpose but carefully, glancing at the baby every 5 seconds. (It was sound asleep.)
It was hours before she made it where she wanted to be. Wyatt was right; she knew where the bunker was. And they hadn't moved. (She was a little surprised, honestly.)
She got out of the car and grabbed her baby and headed for the latch. She approached very, very carefully and warily, not wanting to get shot at. No one was guarding the latch.
(They were really confident in the idea that no one was going to find them, it would seem.)
She hadn't thought this through. The only way in...was down. Down a ladder. And she was 90% sure there could be an alarm that would go off the second she opened it. She didn't remember any when Wyatt had brought her, but a lot has changed.
(Another thought had just come to her, Wyatt could be gone. Back in time, trying to stop Emma... She internally panicked but kept her head.)
Deciding she could climb the ladder one-handed (she's done it before. Just not with a baby...), she set the basket down and opened the latch.
No alarms. She thanked whatever God was watching out for her today. She carefully took the baby out of the basket and held it close to her chest. With deep breaths, she started down.
Climbing a ladder. Something you shouldn't do three hours after giving birth. Jessica could scream. But she bit her tongue.
She made it to the bottom. She took five feet worth of steps—in agony—before she came face to face with Lucy.
Lucy's face was pure panic. She was about to run the other direction, scream, something to draw attention. But Jessica beat her.
"Please," Her voice came out hoarse and she was suddenly aware of how much of a Trainwreck she probably looked. "Please."
Lucy noticed the bundle in her arms. And closed her mouth. She shifted from one foot to the other. Her hair was half pulled up and she was wearing an oversized burgundy, turtleneck. If they weren't in this situation, Jessica would have smirked.
"I know I've done nothing to deserve anything from you," Jessica yelled at herself internally for sounding so weak. "but I'm begging you...help me. Please."
Lucy was very skeptical. And for good reason, Jessica would admit. She eyed Jessica up and down, noticed the slightly bent knees, and the spots of blood that were sporadic from her waist down. (Jessica had forgotten about that, but she didn't care.) Lucy concluded that she had indeed just given birth and was in no position to bring a fight. (Even if she tried, in Jessica's current state, The Team could beat her to anything.) Lucy nodded and beckoned Jessica to follow her.
If, for some reason, Wyatt hasn't been able to get Jessica away from Rittenhouse (and not because she didn't want to leave—they just haven't been able to get her away) before the baby is born... Headcanon that Jessica sends/sent Wyatt pictures, videos and updates on the pregnancy. Random cravings, weird cravings. Everything. Because she so desperately wants Wyatt to be involved. And she misses her husband.
I may or may not have written this into my Fic....
It makes me really sad to see that the ship wars have reached the writers. They’re doing everything in their power to fight for this show, and to show up and see cruel bickering has to be disheartening, to say the least.
That said, I don’t think it’s most of the fandom. I think there’s just a handful of really loud people doing all of this.
So, can the rest of us spread a bunch of positivity to the writers? Just bombard Twitter with positive Timeless messages, using the hashtag the writers used?

I get onto my knee, take our the ring box. Only thing is, I open the box upside down, drop the damn ring in the grass… can’t find it anywhere. I’m so nervous. Finally, she gets on her knees next to me. Rests her hand on my cheek. Just says “Yes”. Gives me a kiss that I’ll never forget… and then we found that ring together.
But imagine Jessica becoming good again and joining the bunker again and her having the baby and Wyatt and her are together and raising the baby. And one day Jessica isn’t there for some reason so Wyatt is by himself with the baby and he’s struggling and Flynn helps him. And gets the baby to stop crying and calm down and the whole team (with emphasis on Lucy) is just looking like 🌝
