Awful First Meeting meets Sick/Injured Fic

Ooh, this one is actually super easy. I’d go back to the Turkey Luncheon at the Jones and re-enact their first meeting. Bridget is angry and very embarrassed, not to mention a little hurt, and she goes outside to have a smoke, but she slips on the icy sidewalk and hurts her ankle. She doesn’t want to make a big deal out of it because clumsy is her default state, but it really hurts and everybody can tell. Because it’s serious but not life-threatening they don’t call the ambulance though it’s clear she needs to see a doctor.  Feeling like an oaf for being cruel about her, Mark volunteers to take her to the hospital and stay with her till she can be treated. Bridget is reluctant, but is in enough pain to allow it.

Though it’s awkward at first, over the course of the rest of the evening Mark manages to make his genuine regret known. He apologizes and Bridget forgives him. He drops her off at her parents, leaving her with his contact details so they can keep in touch. While she’s recovering they communicate via email and play telephone tag. He brings her food and treats and whatnot whenever he’s around. Slowly their budding friendship turns into an adorable crush. By the time Bridget gets her boot off, she’s head over head for Mr. Darcy and the feeling’s entirely mutual.

Summary: He doesn’t realise he’s dozed off until there’s a thump elsewhere in the room that startles him, his eyes blinking back open. He absently rubs at the back of his neck, bracing himself for the inevitable struggle that will be standing back up, when a soft zip reaches his ears from immediately in front of him.

It’s only then that he’s properly roused from his dozing as he’s met with the sight of Bridget, freshly emerged from the shower, kneeling on the carpet between his splayed legs.
