hello ghouls i’ve been getting really into monster high again and i’ve noticed a how many g3 haters seem to be people who aren’t currently into monster high/don’t know what they’re talking about.
G1 and G3 are two different series who (if you watched them and earnestly engaged with the ideas they’re trying to present) aim to do two different things.
Okay I have more stuff to say about monster high and think i can say it more concisely for the g3 haters out there.
I think that g1 has more interesting stories and more engaging characters because many of the stories are modeling anti-social behaviour and it’s consequences to try and encourage pro-social behaviour. Etc a character does something bad and learns their lesson by the end. This is a tried and true method for storytelling. It’s engaging. It allows for the main characters to be flawed and relatable because they make mistakes. I like this style of storytelling more.
what really gets me is that by watching g3’s animated show (which i’m only like halfway through s1 so keep that in mind) is that the show’s format is characterised by the characters modeling pro-social behaviour for children to mimic. Characters are all friendly, kind, honest and accepting. If someone does make a mistake it’s never out of malice or an intention to do harm and everyone makes up at the end. The only exception being torelai who gets to maintain some of her flaws.
This is why i think the shows are fundamentally incomparable because it’s obvious that they are trying to do different things! why criticise a bicycle for not being able to travel across the sea as well as a boat could? they are two separate entities, written with different intentions!
