oh and another wip design i can’t quite finish because every time i try to clean it up, i feel i lose some of its essence
here’s a wip i can’t bring myself to finish because watched wuthering heights 2026 (its bad) and decided to read the book and came to horrible conclusions and now we’re here.
movie heathcliff has no teeth! I like that he’s the worst in the book! similarly, I like that equius is kind of the worst! his unlikeable traits are quite likeable to me! heathcliff’s stoic, cold demeanour and brutality are very equius to me.
and nepeta shares the passion and cheekiness that cathy has in the novel. also there is a section where cathy is saying how she loathes heathcliff and his company which reminded me of nepeta saying that nobody can stand equius (all while hanging out with him, mind you)
anyway i have a lot of things to say about how this new adaptation is so so so bad but i don’t have anything new to contribute (whitewashing heathcliff, skipping the 2nd gen, kinda combining cathy with cathyjr and heathcliff with hareton, everything abt isabella heathcliff, etc etc) besides my meowrails propaganda so i’ll share that instead.
I found your art through an edit on Instagram! https://www.instagram.com/reel/DTy9G18AGmq/?igsh=YXVpcm42aDdmN2c4
oh my god this is so cool!!!
average film major moment
rabbit? habit?
rushed idea that’s above my skill level so here’s the draft impression
i love this movie… i love robert reynolds…
i saw you.
(alternates under the cut)
inspired by that one interview of lewis pullman where he says he cant live without nicotine patches and then pulls them out mid interview!!! also i know yelena smokes cigarettes, its real and true
anyway my friend said this looks like a paid promotion so i guess the new avengerz are nicotine pushers (not very family-friendly of them)
hello thunderbolts nation im crazy about this stupid superhero movie
i think yelena deserves a cigarette for her troubles
john calls customer service workers by their first names
alexi’s favourite muppet is gonzo
bob cant legally drive
ava can only fall asleep with the fan on/other white noise
bucky gets crazy road rage
that is all, please feel free to expand or comment, especially if you think im wrong. please tell me if you think im wrong.
watched Thunderbolts* (2025) and i have an observation for the crossover between superhero and slenderman fans
the bad kids have autism
oh my god is that michael chemical romance?
im afraid the mcr fixation has GRIPPED me
anyway i finished the tv series You (2018-2025)
and i wanna document the SWITCH UP happening!!! my beck lovers and defenders, where were u when i was fighting for my LIFE.
joe didn’t love her, he loved the idea of her. thats why she was portrayed so unfairly!! it’s because its from his perspective!! why did it take people until s5 to figure out he’s a misogynist!!! please help me im going crazy.
watching through the series You’s fifth season and i think the show needs to make up its mind.
are we supposed to root for joe as the damaged, broken but ultimately romantic and noble anti-hero
or
is he a terrifying, sexist, tempermental and hypocritical serial killer and stalker.
Because from season 1, things have been done to Joe’s character that have softened him. paco humanised him, peach was killed in self-defence, he was less of a public pervert and more of a romantic.
so so so many small things that add to him being overall so much more likeable. and you know i LOVE a deranged, psychopathic, violent, romantic. but, only when the creators recognise this for what it is.
i haven’t finished the season so i hope that it ends solid enough but man it has not been a great show since season 1.
all those humanizing things are there on purpose.
They had to humanize Joe to get us through all of that, but no matter how much trauma and back story was given, those short sick moments, those glimpses behind the veil, ARE enough.
The gross masturbatory sessions that are uncomfortable to see outside his perspective. The boxes of stolen tokens and viscera? A clear illustration of how little he respects personhood, and personal space, and autonomy. Every justification he gives is a violation of those women's rights, of that autonomy. It's him saying you're too precious and weak and broken for me to trust you to know what you want/need. I'll set everything straight the way I know it should be.
It was NEVER unclear that the creators and cast wanted us to know that Joe is horrible. It was OUR job to recognize that as we watched. Those moments were meant to show us how Joe justifies his actions. His reason why he's "one of the good ones". His motivation to "save" and "protect" those women. Even as he called out other men's behavior, it was still what he was doing in a different font or flavor ultimately.
The show runners didn't fail, the audience did(not a personal attack OP we just gotta call a spade a spade sometimes).
Up until season 5 it was less clear, but Penn Badgley said we are meant to be horrified by Joe and he was baffled at all the positive reactions he got. After that I believe he and cast and crew leaned into how awful he is in this season. he and the cast n crew made that abundantly clear this time around.
with his increasingly derogatory language to Kate. With his constant tantrums. With the jealous way he reacted to Harrrison and Maddie's acceptance of each other. With the way he was forced to confront the women he abused and you could see the delusion in his expressions.
we were meant to hold on to all of those gross horrifying things between his unreliable ass delusions. Not get distracted by his justifications and trauma.
AHHH THANK YOU SM FOR UR LONG TAKE I LOVVEEEE TALKING ABT THIS!!!
okok
please make no mistake that me personally was always aware of the fact that joe was a horrific scary dude with strong misogyny baked into his actions even though he doesn’t recognise it as that.
i think my specific perspective comes from the fact that i got really hooked on the books as i was watching the show (idk if you’ve read them so sorry if this is rambly) but by comparison, joe is so… nice?
his relationship with paco and ellie are motivated by a purity that is not present at all in the novel. same with his tragic backstory abt being abandoned which isn’t even touched on until the third book (which i also have major problems with because wdym joe doesn’t actually kill anyone). And he never tries to rationalise his behaviour based on said childhood (despite the cage stuff with mooney being remarked on)
but anyway book joe is a gross freak and tv joe is still a gross freak but he genuinely cares about the safety of his kid neighbour who is caught in an abusive relationship so that automatically softens his portrayal to the audience. same with his tantrums and derogatory language like you said, it’s far more consistent throughout the book and Beck’s unlikeability (which i never really got) was more clear as the format of first person novel makes the audience more conscious that we may be being mislead by the narrator, while in tv, audiences generally trust their eyes and we get scenes (such as beck in the hotel) which are completely detached from joe and thus theoretically not affected by his bias.
