@jeynarights
Neither Jason or Reyna are straight, thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
hi hello. i’m here to jeyna out.
thinking about all the misadventures that jason and reyna probably had. the quests, the side quests. the shared looks. the way they know each other instinctively. the whispers between them and about them. them running for praetorship together. jason keeping an elastic on his wrist because reyna hates having her hair in her face. reyna memorizing wind patterns because they symbolize jason’s moods. jason learning spanish through the broken lullabies reyna sings to herself when she thinks no one is noticing.
oh how i wish their story had been different
i think jason loves to hold reyna’s hips. not necessarily in a sexual way, but he just likes to hold them.
he spies her talking to someone? he goes over and holds her hips while plopping his chin on her shoulder.
they’re trying to move through a crowd? he’s holding her hips, trying not to lose her.
giving her a hug? holding her hips.
that jason grace healing fic I said I was writing? the one with jason and reyna reconnecting?
the first chapter is here! Hit the link, leave a comment (even if it's just a lightning bolt and a crown ⚡👑 for the roman heroes), but most of all, I hope you enjoy: https://archiveofourown.org/works/49890916/chapters/125951440
i love them your honor... wish i could read a whole book about them......
The idea that Reynas braids the first couple days while Jason is missing are messy, not all from stress but mainly from the fact Reynas inexperienced in the craft, her sister always plaited her hair and when she wasn’t there it was tied in a pony tail, then Jason started doing it for her cause French braids are hard to do by yourself and he’s had plenty of practice, then he’s gone but she still has to keep up her appearance, her braids are well known, they’re her classic look that everyone recognizes her by so she can’t let her hair go free until Jason gets back, it’d be unprofessional, so she teaches herself how to do a French braid and it’s sloppy and uneven and impossibly tight, making the headache she already had from working herself to the bone even worse.
When Percy gets to camp her braids are neater, they’re clean, they’re professional looking, but they’re still tight because she does not have the same gentle and precise hands.
I like to think after Jason killed Krios he was standing on shaky legs. His sword was still in hand, his grip slipping.
He was covered in inchor and his own smeared blood. His body burned in agony and yet he felt so distant from it all.
And yet to everyone Jason looked like the untouchable son of Jupiter who'd killed a titan singlehandedly.
Well almost everyone.
In seconds Reyna had rushed to his side, and told him it was over. Smiled at him, also exhausted but he was so much wider.
"Rest, Jason. I've got it from here."
Than and only than did the sword fall from his grasp. Than and only than did Jason sway and fall to his knees, and blacked out.
But when he fell, Reyna caught him in her arms. Because he didn't need to be strong anymore.
Not when Reyna was with him.
no because imagine how much more sense it would have made if jason vanished while he was on a quest and not in his bed in the middle of the night. and it would actually force her to come to terms with the fact that maybe he IS dead but no one can be sure because his questmates didn’t see what happened.
like they confess before he leaves saying, “when i come back, i’ll find you and we’ll be something. whatever you want, i’ll be for you.” and then he never comes back.
thinking of the way jason would touch reyna’s knee in a senate meeting, how he would put his hand on her back in what he thought was protection, but was really just re-affirming that reyna hadn’t left him yet.
thinking of the way reyna would separate their paperwork and give jason the more morally questionable ones because he likes to challenge his brain that way, how she would let him lean into her space during dinner at the praetor’s table because she thought he needed to be close to her, but was really letting him close enough to see her imperfections.
thinking of the way they would laugh while watching war games, how they would dance in the middle of the night because neither of them could sleep, how they would hold each other before they said good night.
thinking of the way jason must have regretted not saying anything to reyna before he died. thinking of the way reyna must sit at his grave and think about what should have been.

Okay so firstly, New Rome was full of queer people are you tellling me they didn’t have an extremely active dnd community??
Now onto Jason. Jason is THE BIGGEST DND NERD. He’s probably been playing as long as he possibly could.
When i was originally thinking about his character for when he plays and isn’t dming, my original thought was a half elf or aasimar paladin. Y’know, poke fun at jason and have a little projection.
After thinking about it though, I remembered some of my headcanons on how jason saw reyna (,,,,,,,,,,,which i need to write down somewhere. Hey self write those) and realized. Jason 100% would play a character that’s just how he sees Reyna. Cause Reyna is someone who he sees as what he should be and should aspire to be.
don’t ever feel bad for asking me to tag a trigger
i do not care what the trigger is
i will tag it for you
you have legitimate reasons to be triggered by it
and i am not one to question those reasons
so just send me an ask
anonymous if you’re scared
and i will tag it all the time in future
your wellbeing is worth twenty extra seconds of my time at least
don’t ever feel bad if i dont remember to tag it
i might be on mobile
i might be dumb
i might have forgotten
just send me an ask
anon if you’re scared
i’ll correct it
your wellbeing is worth twenty extra seconds of my time at least
I say this as a person with a decently smallish trigger that comes up often, but has been getting tagged more, and believe me,
I will tag it (as much as I can remember) because
👏No👏Trigger👏is👏too👏small👏or👏uncommon👏to👏tag👏
that being said, it is completely on me if i don’t tag it in the first place, and as far as possible i will try to (i am an adult and it’s my responsibility to make this a safe space)
“Reyna and I used to talk about Diocletian,” he(Jason) said. “We both kind of idolized the guy as a leader. We talked about how we’d like to visit Diocletian’s Palace. Of course we knew that was impossible. No one could travel to the ancient lands. But still, we made this pact that if we ever did, that’s where we’d go.” -The House of Hades
the power these two could’ve had. They met at 12 too! If I recall. They probably had trials and adventures like Percy and Annabeth. Honestly I like Jeyna. Though I don’t mind that they didn’t get together. And I’m happy for Reyna. It’s just that I wish the rift was explored more. How the parrallels between them and percabeth began to drift apart. What steps she didn’t take, what things he didn’t notice. Stuff like that. Guess I’ll explore that myself!!
Back with a Halfblood moment this time from camp jupiter!Haha more on their adventures in halfblood moments coming soon. (Maybe characters like Dakota and gwen too?)
I’ve seen five different authors take down, or prepare to take down, their posted works on Ao3 this week. At the same time, I’ve seen several people wishing there was more new content to read. I’ve also seen countless posts by authors begging for people to leave comments and kudos.
People tell me I am a big name fan in my chosen fandom. I don’t quite get that but for the purposes of this post, let’s roll with it. On my latest one shot, less than 18% of the people who read it bothered to hit the kudos button. Sure, okay, maybe that one sort of sucked. Let’s look at the one shot posted before that - less than 16% left kudos. Before that - 10%, and then 16%. I’m not even going to get into the comments. Let’s just say the numbers drop a lot. I’m just looking at one shots here so we don’t have to worry about multiple hits from multiple chapters, people reading previous chapters over, etc. And if I am a BNF, that means other people are getting significantly less kudos and comments.
Fandom is withering away because it feels like people don’t care about the works that are posted. Why should I go to the trouble of posting my stories if no one reads them, and of the people who do read them, less than a fifth like them? Even if you are not a huge fan of the story, if it kept your attention long enough for you to get to the bottom, go ahead and mash that kudos button. It’s a drop of encouragement in a big desert.
TL;DR: Passively devouring content is killing fandom.
^^^^^^THIS^^^^^^
Fandom is kept alive by readers, watchers, lookers, commenters, and supporters. And the FiKi fandom has some MAGNIFICENT ones…but a lot more who click, consume, and say nothing.
Otherwise, artists and writers are throwing into a vacuum. And it’s the artists and writers who get blamed when there’s not new content?
This applies to so many fandoms. It makes me so sad to see that even on LJ comms, there are far more people reading things than there are commenting on and liking them. I co-mod one of the oldest sites in a particular fandom, and I know it’s still active because of the sign-ups for our challenges, but it’s so disheartening when people post and nobody says anything. How does that encourage new writers, if the first thing they post gets no response? I cheerlead our comm on Twitter, where a lot of the members hang out, and still nothing. It makes me feel like people are eventually going to just stop, and then I shall be sad, because if nobody’s posting and nobody’s reading, there’s little point in my writing and drawing either. I don’t know why fandom is getting so heavily skewed towards passive consumption, but I wish I could do something - anything - to fix it. I miss the kind of comment threads that used to lead directly to more fic and art.
And there’s the answer, random fan demanding more fic but not actually doing anything to encourage it. If you want us to create stuff, let us know we’re not shouting into the void. Engage with us. Discuss plot points with us. We create for ourselves - but we post for you.
Creators love kudos, comments, and feedback. Take a few moments and give it to them. It means so much.
I think people dl'ding fic to their kindles (which, yay!) is a part of this, too. They enjoy it,they re-read it, but they don’t go back to AO3 to leave a kudos or comment. Perhaps folks could make a point that after they’ve read X number of stories, they pull out their Kindles/eReaders and go back to the AO3 and leave something for the fics they enjoyed? (Note: this is what I do about once a month.)
I get my AMVs from http://www.animemusicvideos.org/. And they do something interesting that I never really understood before I started posting on AO3. Every X number of videos you download, the site stops you and won’t let you download or view any more until you’ve left some ratings for the ones you’ve already downloaded. It might not be more than a star rating, and a few words, but it forces you to stop and go, oh, these people worked for hours, for DAYS on this 3 minutes of video footage. Least I can do is add a few words, and click a star rating.
And just some numbers from my side.
I have a one shot that has 173K hits, and 4.6K kudos. That’s about 2.4% For every hundred people that read that fic, less than three bothered to click the kudos button on the way out. Even assuming that we’ve got some major rereads in there, that’s a depressing statistic. Most days I just ignore the hit and kudos count, because if I look at it, I’ll lose my marbles, but I can’t imagine being a new author, being a kid who’s trying hard to be brave and write a thing, only to not know if those other 97 out of a 100 just noped out, or hated it, or what.
Especially if they only have a few works. Especially if they’re new. Especially if they’re trying to break into a new fandom. Especially if they seem to be struggling. Take a moment and write them a few kind words. Give them a reason to believe the effort was worthwhile.
You’ll be rewarded for it. 8)
Found these tips on my computer.
So this. If I make it to the end of a fic I ALWAYS leave a kudos. If I really like it I comment. If I reread it I always comment. Even when I download fics onto my kindle I go back later and kudos and comment (but I also use the “mark for later” list so I go back to take it off that as well).
FEEDBACK IS IMPORTANT!! if you want that fic to update, leave some love. If we feel like we are shouting into the void it doesn’t give us much motivation to keep posting.
THE BEST THING YOU CAN DO TO ENCOURAGE MORE FAN WORKS IS TO LEAVE POSITIVE FEEDBACK FOR THE ONES ALREADY OUT THERE!!!
Kudos.

We don’t get paid and we don’t have marketing teams. Word of mouth is the only game in town, *especially* in big fandoms.
Are we hungry for validation? YES. Probably. Most of us. But do you know how much time and mental energy goes into writing a good story??? Is a few kind words too much to ask in return? Much less the click of a button?
