Sorry to clog up your inbox with this, but after reading your fics I really wanted to send one. I've been in the Top Gear fandom for a few years now, and I've come to the conclusion that compared to other popular rpf Top Gear rpf is very ... serious and almost strict? In the way that it presents itself, I mean. Which isn't an issue, in fact in some ways it's a blessing and has given us such amazing fics and content, but I always miss the craziness of other rpf. I think we should all be much crazier and not just thirsting over them, I mean there should be more transfem and autistic James fics (I'm floored there isn't?), there should be more car sex fics, or someone should do a Crash Dir David Cronenberg 1996 with Richard, Why are we not putting these men in saw traps? Breeding kinks? Psychological horror? Time travel? Here me out here, there should be a Top Gear omegaverse community. Can you imagine? You could get so much mileage out of that Omega James x Beta Richard x Alpha Jeremy, Or Beta Jeremy fighting himself over the fact he isn't an alpha and Richard is, Omega x Omega x Omega, Beta James x Alpha James and Richard. Again I'm not complaining about what we do have (i love what we have) and I know I should be the change I want to see in this world, but I want to thank you for also being that change. I adore your Top Gear fics and I cannot wait for more of them. Thank you ImpossiblyIzzy i salute you and cannot wait to read your self-published book 🫡
Okay firstly never apologise for sending me asks, I treasure every one I get even if I forget to reply to some of them!
And secondly, I agree! I love all of the sweet and fluffy or angsty fics in this fandom - and I've read a lot of them over the past few months! And there are definitely some weird ones that I've enjoyed - off the top of my head, I recomend this one and this one (in fact, everything by wolfy_tgs would count).
But I agree that there's potential for more. I actually have a concept for a time travel fic (where Richard hooks up with his future self) but I can't promise it will ever see the light of day. I would basically read everything you've suggested if I liked the writing style!
And you can certainly read my book once I've, uh, stopped faffing around with RPF and actually finished it.
I second Wolfy 's fic, there's some real whacky stuff in there, from zombies over car transformation to time travel. Also: Rionaleonhart has everything, carsex, genderswap, crazy AUs...
A few more of my faves: Venturesome, Of Molluscs and Men and Sinderella.
In this series, Hammond is a woman (and it's brilliant).
I know omegaverse exists, but I don't usually read it, so I can't really rec anything.
I agree that the currently active writers tend to be more serious and canon compliant. There's a lot of cracky older stuff, though. There was an era around 2008 or so, when there was kind of a competition to have a Top Gear fic in every crack category. Sadly, a lot of the old stuff never made it over from the LJ (now DW) community, but there's still a lot out there that I can't think of just now.
Maybe times will change again, who knows. And in the meantime: yes, thank you Izzy for your fics!
Wait, I forgot:
All My Wires Without Traces by @marginaliana.
'Meh', I hear you say. 'Not my pairing.'
To which say: "Go read it anyway!! I'm pretty sure it's not what you think, and I promise you won't regret it."
Reposting to second the rec of All My Wires Without Traces, which is phenomenal.
The thing about fanfic is that if what you like isn't out there, you can write it. Nothing is off-limits, but if something is a bit more niche, the audience for it may be more select (I don't know why, but very few people in the fandom are into A/B/O, me included, but I know there are one or two people in the comm who would enjoy it).
In the CHMS comm itself, about the only thing that is a hard pass is anon posting. This wasn't always the case, but the only wank we ever had was around anonymous posting. The way the Internet is going these days, I think it was the right move. You can write or prompt absolutely anything you want (as long as you use the appropriate tags and content warnings), but all we ask is that you take responsibility for your words.
