Let me tell you two things about me.
To say the least, only two things were good about the carnival and that was Lily Stone and torturing Zach Kent whenever she could. Other than that, she didn’t really have, or want, to be here. She didn’t find fun in neither riding the rides, being around yelling children, nor the games. Nonetheless, she thought checking out the event was better than staying at home and so far, she semi-regrets it. Most of the time, people constantly bumped into her and she had a feeling eventually she was going to yell at someone and not feel sorry for it. Upon hearing someone else’s voice, as if she was talking to her, she got out of her thoughts and turned her attention over to Jamie. “—Who are you again?”
Jamie’s surprise disappeared. She must have mistaken the girl for someone else she’d known back at Whittemore, as she’d already seen so many familiar faces. She reached down to pick the flyer back up. Jamie’s voice went dull in her reply. “Thought you were somebody else.” She extended the flyer back out to the girl, plastering on a very forced smile under her new annoyance due to her own mistake. “Guitarist for the band Pedestrian. We’re having a show this weekend.” Part of her just wanted the other girl to walk away now, but she knew for the sake of her band she should try to get more business.
The carnival was almost full to the brim with people and Amelia was having a hard time finding anyone she knew but she was saved the chore of trying to search when she spotted Jamie. It was no surprise that she was handing out Pedestrian flyers and Amelia smiled when the girl tried to hand her one. “By long time do you mean a few hours?” She laughed, bending down to pick up the flyer before it got trampled on. “I see you’ve been busy.”
Jamie sighed, shaking her head at herself for having dropped the flyer to the dirty ground. “Yes, a few hours. Where have you been? We’re going to need more of these.” Sometimes Jamie was seriously impossible when she was in ‘band’ mode. She paused, taking time to actually give Amelia a smile. “A lot of people have been taking them, but that doesn’t mean that many will show up.”
Oh. Oh was right. Oh great. Hiding his groan with a cough, Aiden wondered if it would be too rude of him to dart off through the crowd to – hopefully – never be seen again. The answer was yes. It was also too rude of him to remark ‘not long enough’, wasn’t it? He made a gesture to the paper on the ground instead, eyebrows raised at his– whatever she was or used to be to him. “Am I not invited to the show?”
Jamie had gotten better at holding her temper. It was good for the image of the band. But that familiar voice and set of piercing eyes was enough to boil it up again, just as it used to if not even more now. She sighed, leaning down to pick up the flyer. Extending it out, she gave him her fake commercial smile. “Be my guest,” she said, her cool tone not faltering.
Jamie couldn’t pass down a trip to the carnival when it meant there was an added chance to pass out flyers for an upcoming show of her band’s. She handed them out blindly, smiling and thanking each person who took one though she grew exhausted from it quickly. Down to her last flyer, she looked up at the person she was handing it to. “Oh,” she paused, her grip on the paper loosening as it fell to the ground in her sudden surprise. “Long time no see.”
