This is a really random post but I thought I’d write about my experience in the past week. The past stressful week, rather. I’ve never had such a week packed with so many things to do and accomplish. This is gonna be a long post, so brace yourselves.
Let’s start with Tuesday. I had to go to dance practice and we had to practice really vigorously for our upcoming performance at Missisauga. Two of our members suddenly pulled out of the performance two days before so our leader had to reassign all the positions for each song. Our practices are only on Tuesdays and Fridays so we only had two (technically three because we practiced on the day before our performance) days left to practice as a group. And on the Friday, I can’t stay for too long because I have a debut to attend to. I went straight to practice after school and didn’t come back home until 8 o’clock.
Wednesday. The day I’m supposed to return my friend’s leather jacket to him. I borrowed it for the previous Saturday because I needed to wear it for a dance cover my group and I filmed. But anyways, we agreed to meet up at Kennedy station at 3:30. So I headed straight there after school on the 198 (because it was faster than the 113 and I was running a bit late). Thankfully, I arrived 4 minutes earlier than we were supposed to meet. Or so I thought I was thankful for being early. He ended up not coming at all! I was waiting at the station for 45 minutes. Fortunately, I saw another friend of mine and asked to use her phone (sadly, I don’t have a phone). She knew the friend I was waiting for so she messaged him and right away he messaged her saying he completely forgot! I was mad for like 5 seconds but he’s a working student and he usually works late hours so I completely fine. If he doesn’t want his jacket, then I’ll keep it..... just kidding! Anyways I asked my dad to pick me up from the station at 3:45 because I thought he would come and I didn’t think we’d talk much anyways. My dad ended up waiting for me for half an hour (Sorry dad!). But anyways he then drove me to Oriental Center where I get my haircut. I waited almost half an hour just to get my haircut and then I went home.
Thursday. International Night.... oh man. Now I’m really really excited but I’m also really worried. I have friends coming from outside of school to come see the show but only 1 out of the 3 friends are coming early for the pavilion. So I rush to get home because my friend is coming over my house first and my dad will drive us back to school. Anyways, the night was actually really good! The pavilions were great and China, in particular, was a lot of fun!
The show finally began to take place and one of my friends said she’ll be late. I don’t know how late but I warned her then to come as fast as she could so that she won’t miss our friends’ performance. Our friends Franchesca, Sammy, and Nina were performing as “Crown” with a medley of kpop songs. But anyways, she ended up coming about 8 minutes before their performance. Just on time. But considering she came from Bowmanville and she came around the end of the show, it’s really a shame. I found the show great! Not all the performances were perfect but none of them were bad or completely boring. So, I got home unexpectedly early at 10 but I was so tired I knocked out on my bed early too.
Friday.... oh God. So today’s the debut and the plan is I’m going to dance practice first then go home by 4 because my friend Nina will come over so we could get ready and go to the debut together. Now, if you don’t know what a debut is it’s a Filipino coming of age ceremony for girls turning 18. The debutante throws a party with friends and family following traditional events within the night. So, I was the debutante’s escort and we had to do a dance we’ve been practicing for 7 months. Anyways, so I actually ended up signing out during 4th period because we had a supply and we didn’t have any new work. I headed over to practice so I can get more time to practice since our performance was tomorrow. I had a good 3 hours there and went back home at 4, where me and Nina then rushed to get ready. We arrived at the venue at 5:45 ish (I was supposed to be there at 5 for the group picture...). But it didn’t matter because Jen (the debutante) wasn’t there yet so we couldn’t do anything. We were supposed to practice the dance. I was so nervous. But by the time the dance came around, we did it perfectly and I was so happy and we were all so ecstatic. We started jumping up and down the dance floor, just screaming in excitement. That feeling of achievement and finally doing the dance after spending so much time every Saturday together was both sad and happy. We ate and danced all night and I had so much fun. I’ve never had so much fun in my life, I really enjoyed myself that night. I couldn’t bear to go home but I got home at 1:30 in the morning and I just couldn’t sleep until 4 because I missed the night way too much. I’ll never forget that day.
And then there was Saturday. The day of our performance. I woke up at 10 am and I’m supposed to meet some of my dance group members at Kennedy station by 12 pm. So I got up and my mom made me eat and I ended up talking to her about the debut the previous night so I started eating up time and before I know it it was 10:30 already! I rushed to shower, shave, and fix up my hair (which took up so much time, oh Lord). Then by 11:30, I had to leave but I still wasn’t finished so i rushed to get all the performances clothes and make sure I have everything I needed. So I arrived to Kennedy around 15 minutes late so we made our way to Isling to take the transit there to Square One (Missisauga’s equivalent to the Eaton Centre). That whole trip took about an hour and a half. And by then, all 7 of us were together. We went around the mall to buy some last minute stuff we needed for the performance then headed to the Living Arts Centre to practice for a couple hours. By 6 pm, we made our way to the event. It was this amazing event called Carassauga where different countries and cultures are celebrated. It was truly fascinating and I would love to come back again next year! Anyways, so we headed for the Korean pavilion and talked to the organizers where we got our free “passports” (it’s sort of like a pass for the event that costs $10) and a key to the change room. After changing, we headed back and put our stuff away as we went around exploring what was there for us to see before our performance. By 8:30, we went back to prepare for the performance that will be at 9. By the way, did I mention that our dance mix was 11 minutes and 51 seconds....? Wow, that’s a long time. Anyways, we started to eat and we were surprised when the emcee said “A disco-themed performance is coming right up guys, so stay tuned!” We almost jolted out of our seats in excitement but at the same time in anxiety. I was feeling a little confident because of my successful performance at the debut the night before. But anyhow, we danced and had so much fun! As our loud disco-themed mix started to play, the pavilion started to fill with so many people. The entrance was getting crowded with onlookers from outside. I didn’t let that get me nervous and I just danced my life away! That was my first time performing with my dance group and it was an exhilarating experience! Wow. I would love to do that again (And I am, on June 5th and 6th at this Korean event downtown hahaha). I didn’t get home until 1:00 and I was completely exhausted.
And today is Sunday. I have so much work to do.......... I better get started.... oh man.
