Like I'm not saying you're wrong for wanting stories where characters face consequences, but it's Neopets. It's lighthearted, kid-friendly fantasy-adventure, and as such we're on a simplified level of storytelling here. So you're going to see a lot of dashing thieves and characters being more sympathetic than they would be in real life and things being resolved with the power of love and understanding.

It's okay if you just... don't like the genre, y'know?
