It turns out that Stephen became a scientist, and when one of his grad students, Mark Dodero, discovered a rare succulent on the Baja peninsula (a roughly 2 acre habitat, and that’s it) while listening to “Voodoo Child”, Stephen suggested that they name it Dudleya hendrixii, or “Hendrix’s liveforever.” Less than a foot tall but with an unusually long lifespan, the blooms die every summer and come back every fall.
