Get to know VELMA DINKLEY who’s TWENTY-ONE years old and a JUNIOR in college majoring in FORENSICS. They are from CALIFORNIA and are often times mistaken for ISABELLA GOMEZ while others say they remind them of VELMA from SCOOBY DOO.
BASICS !
while their parents were incredibly supportive of their child, velma's parents were notably absent from their life. they didn't fault their parents for it in the least. velma became an incredibly independent child and adjusted quite well. intelligent from a young age, they were hailed as a prodigy and while most people would feel pressure to succeed, velma learned to live with it.
velma fell in love with mystery novels as a young child, their introduction beginning with agatha christie. they picked up murder on the orient express at the age of five out of curiosity and within two days they were done. a love for the genre bloomed in their chest and it wasn't long before they were reading all of agatha's books and their love of mysteries grew and trying to solve them before they reached the end grew.
they'd been a straight a child since pre-school and their favorite subject was always science. the subject satisfied their curiosity while teaching them how the world worked. it was like solving their mysteries and velma looks at everything through a scientist's perspective.
to velma the statement ' theres no such thing as a stupid question ' doesn't apply. anything that can be answered by common sense or even a little bit of critical thinking they consider a waste of their time. they can grow very sarcastic or sassy when asked anything they deem stupid. they don't have the patience for stupidity.
always a skeptic,velma looks at every mystery the gang has had as a way to prove ghosts and ghouls aren't real and humans are the biggest monsters of all. from their first mystery, velma found it hard to believe a green goo monster would just attack shaggy unprovoked. no satisfaction matched the moment they put the pieces together and helped solve it.
after particularly dangerous cases, velma finds themself extra protective of the gang. often putting their own well being on the back burner and checking in on the gang to do what they can to ensure they're okay. talking it out. tending to wounds. anything they can do to make it better.
velma is extremely nearsighted. they've been wearing glasses since they were three years old. after walking into numerous walls and claiming they couldn't see unless something was directly in front of their face, their parents took it seriously. after breaking a pair during an investigation, velma has learned to have multiple pairs on hand in case of emergency. sometimes they'll wear contacts for special occasions.
they identify as non-binary and pansexual. velma's pronouns are they/them and they'll only correct you once or twice. if you don't use their correct pronouns, they'll simply walk away from you and never speak to you again. they know people are ignorant but if they've been corrected, they don't see why they should have to do it multiple times.
being the logical and sensible one of the group isn't always fun but velma deals with it. maybe they can be a bit of a wet blanket sometimes but they know it's an important role to play, one that keeps them out of trouble.
after reading up on corona island and the rumblings of magic, it didn't take long for velma to agree to join mystery inc on their voyage. there had to be a logical reason for everything happening and velma wanted to get to the bottom of it.
