Fish populations in China’s Yangtze River have doubled since a 10-year fishing ban began in 2021, offering hope for global river restoration
From the article:
After decades of ecological decline, China’s Yangtze River, Asia’s longest and one of the most degraded waterways in the world, is showing hopeful signs of recovery. According to a new study published in Science, fish populations in the river have more than doubled in just two years following the country’s sweeping 10-year fishing ban introduced in 2021. The research, led by Fangyuan Xiong of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, highlights not only a boost in fish biomass and diversity but also an encouraging rebound of several endangered species. Experts say the results demonstrate how large-scale, well-funded political decisions can successfully reverse damage to freshwater ecosystems. “It is really fantastic news. It is one of the first times that we can say that government measures have not just worked, but have really improved things,” said Sébastien Brosse, a biologist at the University of Toulouse and co-author of the study.
In order to be successful, this fishing ban was accompanied by compensation to locals who depended on fishing the Yangtze for their livelihood and government assistance in finding alternative jobs. We can't expect people to choose respecting environmental protection laws over feeding their families.

Crazy how every person who considered small talk useless who I met throughout my life consistently turned out to be just as dull when we get to talking to what they consider “deep” topics.
It’s almost as if all communication skills are connected and something can’t be “below you” if you fucking suck at it. How could it be below you if it’s literally beyond your reach? Get on your tippy toes hoe
Shocking: guy who wants to skip foreplay sucks at the real deal
^^^ This. The COMBINED population of the Twin Cities (Minneapolis and St. Paul) is only about 2.6 million. That's not small town numbers, sure, but compared to NYC (20.1 million in the metropolitan area)? LA? (12.9 million "")?
Minneapolis is being made an example of because they're the most bitesized target, and if you're doing a shock and awe campaign like this you need to not choke on national tv.
(And they're still having to fight for it. Minneapolis isn't taking this laying down, and more power to them for their courage.)
Just as a side note, ICE raids are currently also happening in Columbus OH- which is double the size of Minneapolis but still much smaller than Chicago or LA.
Moved to a new place and im afraid of the dark again. I keep imagining this dark abstract female figure with glowing white eyes. Really dont like it. I've only been sleeping once the sun comes up. Hope I settle in soon.

I miss my mom.
She died last year. Found out in june stage 4 pancreatic cancer. She was gone by the end of November.
Its hurts so much. The more time goes on the more I want to talk with her. The more I remember dumb things I regret or things I regret not doing. How does one even cope? Is it just going on day after day? I miss her voice her laugh. I even miss hearing her say my name sternly. She loved me so much. I was her sweet little baby. She understood me so well - it was annoying at times. I hate this so much. I just want to see her so bad. Sometimes I cry and hug myself and shut my eyes and pretend shes hugging me. I remember when I was a little kid id cry and itd be so gross wkth tears snot drool but she'd just hug me and hold me.
I just wanted to put this out of myself. I send messages to her fb but its over a year since she logged in so the messages turned off. I dont have her phone right now to turn it back on. God I hate this so fuckin much.
I wanna eat my lazy comfort foods but can justify it bc that's all I had yesterday too :/
I feel old when I think zaboomafoo instead of king Julius when I see a ring tailed lemur.
