This semester has been the busiest one yet. Between classes, greek life, social life, and all of my other lives, I sometimes wonder how I've been able to keep up. In the words of Frank Sinatra, from the song “My Way”, “Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew When I bit off more than I could chew”. However, I wouldn’t be me if I did things any other way. In addition to all that I have going on, one of my best friends and I started a chapter of Her Campus at Georgia Tech (yessss, if you’re looking to write or join the e-board, contact hcatgatech on IG). Her Campus is the number one media site for college women, by college women. We bring the realest information from relationships to health to news. It has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made at Tech (probably next to studying abroad). The story to how it all started is even funnier.
We were catfished. Long story short, someone got into one of the GT groupme pages and expressed that she was starting a chapter of her campus but, after several missed meetings and phone conferences, something did not seem quite right. After about 5 of us began super sleuthing, we discovered that this girl wasn’t who she claimed to be. So, my friend and I started the tedious process of creating the chapter ourselves. Needless to say, a long month later, here we are!
Our chapter launched on January 21st. Since our launch, we’ve had our e-board retreat, first meeting, two rounds of articles published, and lots of social media posts introducing our members. In the future, we hope to have a couple of events and tabling. All things considered, I think we’re off to a great start. I’m so excited to have a group for all women where we can discuss issues that pertain to us. I’m also enthused about the fact that it’s a diverse group of women. I think that it will make our content better by being able to speak on the issues concerning women from different backgrounds.
I am pleased to be a part of something that I deem amazing, and to be able to leave my mark on Tech before leaving this great place. I can’t wait to see how much the chapter grows and what all we get to accomplish this semester. Stay tuned and look for us around campus!
