Tonka call this dish "Nargisi kofta, tomato chilli jam, pickled radish" but I call it Koftasensational! Deliciously crunchy outer shell with an softly boiled scotch egg that oozes flavour like no other Kofta I've ever had. Served a tomato chilli jam that has a little heat and sweetness, this is one killer entrĂŠe that once you've had, you'll just want have another serve! Lazy Bean - Northcote.
A cafe born out of what was once a residential home across road from a melbourne metropolitan train line.Fast friendly service, was greeted at the door and a bottle of water soon arrived with the menu. Really enjoyed the coffee, it was rich dark and full of flavour.
Here they have a Full service kitchen offering wide range dishes on their all day breakfast as well as their all day lunch menu and a kids menu. Full details on their website at http://lazybean.com.au/cafe-northcote-menu/ A very eclectic and relaxing environment with the choice of seating inside or out front under the verandah. They also have an outdoor courtyard in the rear of the cafe. Other services they offer which they proudly display is free wifi. Although there were only a few little ones, good news for parents with kids and especially new born parents, Lazy Bean has been classified " A baby friendly cafe" by HeyBambini.com.au
My choice was Eggs Benedict from their all day breakfast menu. It's one of those dishes to try to get a gauge on how good the food really is.This was a cracker, this dish came with beautifully poached eggs, on a bed of English Muffins, pan fried spinach, English Cheddar cheese, free range ham and tangy Hollandaise sauce. A great meal for anytime of the day, perfect to kill any hunger pains fast or perfect to share if you just want a light snack to see you through. Great food, great coffee, great atmosphere, great friendly service - would definitely come back!

Took advantage of their Good Food Month special in November. $20 per head for 2 people comes with shared entree and a main dish each. Place was quiet, decor is unique and service was friendly and swift upon entry. Water at the table within a couple of minutes.
Ordering was a challenge, some staff on deck tonight seem to struggle with order taking as a few people around us received wrong dishes after waiting a fair while. My low score is an overall reflection of food, service and price. The long wait for Pizza and pasta dishes after the entree made was disappointing. Everyone enjoyed the Pizzas. It appeared to me that Takeaway service was given priority.
A pizza made in a hot woodfired oven doesnât take long. 45+ min wait between entree and main dish arrivsls - tad excessive on a night thatâs not busy. If turnaround time was reasonable, score would have been be a 4.5 tonight. For the record, I ordered a Osso Bucco Pizza, see photo above of the menu

Review: The Old Fire Station Gallery Cafe - Preston.
A cafĂŠ that doubles up as a gallery featuring works from local artists. On this visit, artwork on the walls are from the students of Reservoir High School. Service was swift and staff were friendly.
Coffee is nice and cafe is large enough to find a quiet spot if you want to be away from this kid friendly place. Extensive menu avaliable with an all day breakfast menu included.
I ordered Bacon and eggs anyway you want on toast. I also chose a side serve of mushrooms. I went for poached eggs to offset the naughtiness of having bacon.
Bacon, toast and mushrooms were full of flavor and bacon was crispy. Sadly my eggs were just that bit overcooked. Poaching keeps in the flavour of the egg yolk and when its been cooked for longer than it should be, the dynamics of the dish change a lot. It was the only blimp on the meal, if only theyâd been taken out a minute or two earlier. Little things - big difference.

Review: Homemade Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli.
This dish was from the specials board. Homemade Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli in a butter sauce with baby Bocconcini, tomatoes and fresh parsley. Pasta was cooked beautifully Al'dente which meant the Ravioli retained its shape when cut up. There IS nothing worse than overlooked Ravioli that breaks apart. The pasta arrives from the kitchen in the butter sauce, then Chef adds the baby Bocconcini and Tomatoes, then into the wood fired oven to gently warm but not over heat it to complete the cooking process. Fresh parsley is added for added freshness and colour and served.
Combining the Ravoili, Tomato and baby Bocconcini then dipping them in that butter sauce was delicious. Visually spectacular, it has all the colours of Italy on a plate and flavour and taste to match. Enjoy this with a glass of white wine, Iâm thinking Pinot Grigio. A meal worthy of being classed as an Italian dish - no skimping on the Ravioli here. Bellissimo!

Review: La Trattoria - Adelaide.
There were many positive reviews regarding "La Trattoria" in King William Street and this assisted in our decision to give it a try. After some digging, I found out that owner Andrea was born in Messina, Sicily. He made a name for himself in November 2004 while in New York when he entered the âBest of the Bestâ Pizza Challenge held in Times Square. At the end of the competition, Andy was crowned the Best Pizza Maker in the world for his Marinara Pizza. This place has been in Adelaide forever.
Being from out of town, "La Tratts" reminds me of a Trattoria that you'd find in Lygon Street. Front of house staff were welcoming and being a quiet night we got seating easily. It must be said that the restaurant is very large and has plenty of seating inside and out front.
I ordered the Pizza "Mediterraneano" After seeing the photos of "Andyâs Marinara" I couldnât justify the cost of that Pizza. Maybe I'm just a Pizza snob, but in my personal opinion and it's only MY opinion, I expected to see more fresh seafood on that Pizza.
My Mediterraneano arrived and visually it looked good. It had a medium base and very good taste and texture. Not salty or not bland! Artichokes, Ricotta as well as the Italian Sausage featured prominently on top and the eggplant layered underneath which meant it retained its delicate taste.
This was an 11" Pizza and if I can be a little critical, at $27 (as at 02/11/2015) in my opinion pricing is a tad high. In this price range, I'd expect a woodfired Pizza over an oven cooked Pizza anytime. A version of this cooked in a woodfired oven, would have intensified flavour further and the taste of those toppings would have gone to another level. Remember, this is my personal opinion only.
Having said all that, it's a good Pizza and the others who dined with me rated their's good as well.

La Trattoria - 346 King William Street, Adelaide, South Australia
Opinion: Birra Menabrea - Italy
Having an Italian background and also the fact that I donât mind a beer occasionally; some would say more often than occasionally haha, Iâve had a chance to try different types of Italian beers from different breweries over the years. When thinking of Italian beers these days, Peroni would be one that comes to mind thanks to an extensive marketing campaign of late, Peroni tends to features prominently as a choice of beer available on tap at many pubs.
I first heard about this beer from a write up online and saw it at the bottle shop on sale. As I read the back of the bottle, all the ingredients youâd expect to find in beer are there.
Beer should be enjoyed very cold, at 330ml per bottle, this will chill up quickly. Donât try and screw the lid off, this beer is old school. First impressions, that first hit of malt, hops and barley. Honey and fruity tones also come through, but the malt stays on the palate, that equals happy burbs as well! As I sipped this beer, recalled memories of myself being back in regional Italy sharing many days and many beers with my late Grandfather. From there, the memories of times spent together come back to life.
This is a strong but very refreshing beer to drink as is but Iâm thinking that this drink would go SO well with a Parmigiana, a classic style âPot and Parmaâ, something as simple as some top shelf Fish and Chips or what takes your fancy. At 4.8% alc/vol, itâs up there in the heavy beer stakes. This is very easy drinking so be aware because before you know it, a six pack wonât last long at all!
Always remember to drink responsibly!

Review: Favori Pizzeria - Albert Park
Favori is one of the originals to line the streets of Victoria Avenue, this Pizza house has moved down the road since it first opened, but the owners have been at the helm for a number of years and is now one of a handful of Pizzeria's in the street. Only a couple of doors down is Don Dino's a Pizzeria that's been in the same location since 1991 and recently D.O.C Pizzeria has arrived.
The consensus of the group was to try the "Vegetarian Mediterranean" Pizza from their gourmet range. This Pizza checks all the boxes - thin base, good flavor in the toppings, no signs of oiliness in the base which normally sees your Pizza box soaked. I need to say that this Pizza also has Kalamata Olives which were omitted on this order for the anti olive eater of the group :)
My suggestion for improvement, I'd like to see a bit more crumbled Feta Cheese on the pizza once out of the oven, just to give it that added salty kick to bring out the flavor in the other ingredients, also as a visual improvement to make the Pizza look fresher. The Kalamata Olive omission was not something I would recommend you do unless you can't stand olives.
Home delivery is available, but you can also dine in and BYO is also available. My advice - eat in so you can enjoy your Pizza the way it should be enjoyed - hot straight out of the oven. Home deliveries tends to throw up all sorts of issues and the number one is the potential for the Pizza to arrive warm or worse still cold despite the best efforts outlets have in place to keep it hot for as long as possible.
Make no mistake, this is not a traditional Neapolitan Pizzeria, but I wouldn't class Favori as a "outlet or takeaway" such as the likes of those large pizza chains and horrid takeaway's that refuse to evolve with the times by focusing on quantity as opposed to quality. My number one tip, if you can, book a table inside or outside, take a bottle of your favorite wine and eat in to enjoy your Pizza piping hot and fresh out of the oven.

Favori Pizzeia - 153 Victoria Ave, Albert Park, Melbourne
When I think of my trip to far north Queensland, My mind will always centre around this one moment caught in time. A trip to the Great Barrier Reef. My first visit, brought a personal experience that I can't explain in words, those of you who have been there will understand what impression was left on you on your visit there. If you have an opportunity to visit this maritime and wonder of the world at least once in your lifetime - GO. Twelve months on, I still am in awe that the world has such a beautiful place such as this, it is also up to us as do whatever we can to make sure it's here for future generations to come, my recollections of this place are still fresh in my mind today. If I didn't know better, it'd be like I was only swimming in the reef yesterday. So fortunate to have been able to tick this off my travelling must do's.
Amazing what I found as I sat there yesterday flicking through pics on my phone. It's been almost 12 months since I toured far north Queensland, this photo was taken on day one in Cairns opposite the esplanade. My recollections were of a beautifully warm day, locals and tourist's about enjoying the water and others sitting across the road in eateries and shops. This was my first trip to Cairns and I must admit, the sheer beauty of the place took my breath away. Such a beautiful place. But on this journey, the best was still yet to come.
Eat too much of this as well as other processed meats and the World Health Organisation says you may as start planning your funeral! #LiveLoveFood or don't live at all! It's all about eating in moderation.
Review: Gemma Simply Italian, Carlton Victoria
I've now been here multiple times and there is a reason why. Alessandro Bollino is a warm and welcoming host. He's never far away from the front of house where he likes to personally welcome diners with a smile. His team are courteous and offer fantastic service and they offer thanks to the intimate surrounds and an restaurant environment that is like a small traditional Italian Trattoria. This means table service is quick. I've had Birthday's and more recently, a Fathers Day lunch where we went for the set menu option - OMG it was fantastic!!. Check out their website for the latest menu's and pricing.
Three reasons why you MUST eat here:
1. Traditional and authentic Italian Pizza and Pasta using fresh ingredients. Pizza cooked in a 400 degree stone wood fire oven, an array of pasta dishes cooked al'dente every time, sweets to die for great wine list and BYO option available.
2.Great customer service upon arrival and throughout service. Staff who are very happy to tend to your needs to make your experience an enjoyable one, specials menu where there's something a little bit different every time.
3.Price - Although this place is in "Carlton" it's not hard falling into a mindset that when eating in there, Lygon Street is one of the first streets that you'd traditionally head for. Here you get food which makes some so called "Lygon Street "Pizzerias" look like old school takeaways that feature tasteless Pizza's made for quantity not quality.
Once you've eaten a traditional Pizza at Gemma's you'll never eat a cardboard tasting greasy big chain Pizza again. Here you pay peanuts and get mind blowing food that you'll always remember and talk about. It's the little things that they do that you don't expect that makes you walk away with a smile and an dining experience that you'll always look back upon with great memories.
