Since I had fun doing something similar when I was reading the Empyrean Saga, I thought I’d start a weekly post about “What I Read”. 😊
This week, I read 6 books. I was in a funk and reading is my happy place. And I’m working my way through Ruby Dixon’s Risdaverse, where there a lot of novellas. So, yeah.
Corsair Brothers: Straik – Ruby Dixon
Finishing this one made me want to read the Sunrise Cantina books…but I’ll wait and read them at the proper time within the recommended reading order. The a’ani are one of my top favorite things in this book. I liked how Straik’s motivations and back story were presented. He’s not as fun of a read as Adiron or Kaspar, but that’s what makes him interesting. Especially when he’s a bit delusional *cough* Dopekh *cough*. 🤣
Corsair Brothers: Mathiras – Ruby Dixon
I jumped ahead a bit in the reading order to read this one. After finishing the others in this group, it made sense. And I wanted to see the overarching plot line resolved. I totally got Leeloo vibes from Helen and my brain kept waiting for her to say “Big badda boom!” I really liked how Ruby handled her as a character. And I adored Matty. ❤️ He’s somewhere at the top of the list of my favorite Mesakkah book boyfriends. (Vektal is not on the list, he’s a Sakhui 😉) Emotional maturity for the win!
Worse Guy – Ruby Dixon
I’m not in a rush to read Bethiah’s book, so I jumped back into the proper reading order. I’m proud of Lord va’Rin for seeing thru a certain guard’s BS when it was brought up. I was anxious about that. And the situation with the barbs has me concerned about Valmir in Ice Planet Clones, whenever his book comes out. 😬
When She’s Lonely – Ruby Dixon
One thing I love about the Risdaverse/Ice Planet books is the slang misunderstandings. They are rampant on Not Hoth, and it is gold – just ask Liz about the ‘taters’. 🤭 Some of the more recent Risdaverse books in the reading order didn’t have much of that – and neither did the Corsair Brothers, which made sense because of who the MMCs were and their experiences. This one also didn’t have much, but it brought it back enough with the translation fails in the message transmissions. That was so much fun! And my puzzle-solving brain loved the challenge of deciphering them. I wish we could have seen more.
When She’s Pregnant – Ruby Dixon
Oh sweet baby Ainar. What a doll. Lol.
That’s really all I can say about this one. The focal point of the book was the FMC wanted to get pregnant asap, so....yeah. It was short, light on drama, and we got to meet sweet Ainar.
Rescued by the Alien Bull Rider – Ursa Dax
Had to jump over to this universe quick to read the newest release and visit with my other favorite aliens…the Zabrians. For the record, Oaken is my favorite Zabrian book boyfriend. And Killian is one of my favorite Zabrian characters in general. 🤭 Kinda funny how the timing worked out…read a book about a woman wanting to get pregnant, followed by one about a woman who was pregnant. This one tugged at my heartstrings more than the others. And of course the texting snippets between the girls in the group chat were as fantastic as always! Friggin’ Darcy likes to stir things up and it’s just hysterical! Can’t wait for the next release...which looks to be coming in October.
What did you read this week? I’m always looking to add to my TBR.
