Chapter 1: Disaster First Meeting
A gecko woman lies on her couch with a piece of cake by her side. Another lonesome year in the city.
She moved back to St. Canard against her own family’s wishes. Their faces were filled with horror when she didn’t say a word of her move.
Her reasons for the move is how often they trained her as if she’s going to die at the very moment and evade her questions for her biological parents. It was an exhausting environment to be in.
‘Why were they afraid? Why can’t they answer my questions that I sought for answers for years?’
Relda had enough time sulking in her apartment. It’s a cloudy day, so best time to be out and meet new people possibly.
She got off her couch and set her usual outfit for the day. A turtleneck, pants, and boots. She grab her essentials and took a stroll down to St. Canard Library.
Of course, it was nice and quiet. The sounds of whispering, clicking, and turning pages are only to be heard. Relda kept exploring until she comes across a book that peaks her interest. It is out of her reach and she starts climbing the rolling ladder.
An unsuspecting duck man is walking by holding a book with his left arm and the other arm is in his lab coat’s pocket.
‘Those jerks! They ruined my experiment and I’ve have to restart all over again. What can be done? Now, how I’m going to get my phd at this point?’
While he was in his own thoughts, the ladder was stuck and the book is a bit far off from Relda’s arm. Her best idea is to get as close as she can to reach the book. It’s close to her fingertips.
‘Just a little more closer!’
She moves slightly and lost her grasp on the ladder. She closes her eyes.
‘Shit! Stupid move, Relda! Could’ve asked an employee for assistance, but noooo! Please, nobody be down there!’
The duck man stops his thoughts when he looks up to see a green gecko woman losing her balance and is about to go down.
‘What can I do? Catch her? Better than nothing.’
He rushes to lay out his arms to catch the woman. Both of them went down from the impact.
Relda wasn’t expecting help until she felt someone’s arms caught her. She opens her eyes and met with blue eyes looking at her with concern. Her cheeks blushes from the embarrassment.
“You’re okay miss?” The duck man questions.
“Mhm!” She jumps out his arms immediately and helps him up. Relda picks up a book with a title called Botantism: Easy Way To Get Your PhD!
‘Get yourself together, girl! Thank him for fuck’s sake!’
“Thank you, Mr…um,” she pauses for moment and he replies, “Reginald Bushroot.”
“Thank you, Mr. Bushroot.”
“Reginald is fine. What’s your name miss?”
“Relda Grymes. Call me Relda.”
There’s a moment of silence between them both until Relda breaks it.
“So, botantism? You’re studying to get your phd?”
“Yeah.” Reginald sadly says and then asks, “What book were you trying to get?”
Relda rubs her neck at the question with embarrassment.
“It’s a book about meeting new friends at your 30s.”
‘He thinks I’m a sad loner, huh.’
“Trouble getting friends in the city, right? I know the feeling. It sucks being a loner.”
Relda nods in response. Then, a single thought came to her head.
“Want to hangout after you’re done with studying? I’ve got nothing planned afterwards.”
Reginald’s eyes lit up from the invite.
It was the start of a two loners’ strong bond.
