Not today!
Isn't it odd that for people like us - the artists, the performers - praise from strangers is more invigorating and validating than what we get from our closest friends and relatives...?

The first official band I was in was a blues band called "Black Cat Bone".
I'd been playing open mics at a little coffee house in Pontiac, MI - The Blue Note Cafe. While playing the open mics there, I met a drummer, Pat Saunders - who introduced me to a guitar player, Jacques Darville. Â We started practicing and eventually enlisted one of my coworkers at the time, Chris Jarjosa, to play bass. Â This is a recording of one of our first performances at the Blue Note Cafe back in September, 2000. Enjoy.
On the Darville Sessions...
I just wanted to put down a few notes about the music recording sessions with Jacques Darville back in 2001-2003.
Jacques and I had been playing in several music projects (which I'll get into at some other time) - but in our spare time we decided to take advantage of the recording setup I had on my PC. Â Jacques had written several songs and wanted to get them down with backing tracks.
Using Sonic Foundry's ACID platform for PC, we used a mix of pre-made loops for the drum and percussion tracks, then laid down synth and guitar tracks individually.
What really sticks in my memory about those sessions is that after spending hours getting the backing tracks laid out and arranged, Jacques would get to my makeshift "studio" and lay down his guitar tracks in ONE TO TWO TAKES! Â It was really something to witness first-hand, and I'm always grateful that I had the opportunity to be a part of it.

Another recording of Jacques original music. Â Be sure to check out Jacques here:Â http://fiverr.com/darville/send-you-a-customized-beginners-guitar-video-lesson
This track was a lot of fun to record - especially since I got to play bass and a little of the backing guitar. Â I never get tired of hearing the virtuosity of Jacques guitar playing. Â Enjoy!
Back in 2001-ish, I had the pleasure of working with Jacques, recording and quasi-producing some of his original work. Â Be sure to show him some love here:Â http://fiverr.com/darville/send-you-a-customized-beginners-guitar-video-lesson
This particular song has gone by several names, and originally had a longer ambient intro - but I edited that out to get to the awesome guitar playing faster. Â At some point i'll get more time to go back and really mix the session properly. Â Enjoy!

Little hiccup with tumblr - had to recreate the blog. Â living and learning...
This is not an original composition - but rather an arrangement. I didn’t write or play any of the riffs in this song. I used the loops in the Acid Loop Library and arranged them into this song.  I arranged this in 1999 using Sonic Foundry’s Acid platform on PC.  While I didn’t create any of the loops used in this arrangement, I did modify them heavily using pitch shifting techniques, effects applications, and extensive cutting and pasting.  Enjoy!
Not sure why I chose “Los Dorados” as the name of this - i just liked it. Make sure to turn up the bass when you listen to it. Written and arranged back in 2001 using Sonic Foundry’s Acid platform on PC. Ambient intro, drum track, bass line, and background guitar are from the Acid Loop Library - so I can’t take credit for that.  Acoustic guitar riff and string synth were written by yours truly.  I used an Ibanez AEL20E acoustic/electric guitar for the guitar riff. The string synth sound is from an Alesis NanoSynth MIDI module slaved to a Roland ep-7.  I used a little Behringer XENYX 802 mixer to run sound from the instruments to the PC (line-in), and I used Acid’s built-in FX generator to add the reverb to the guitar.
I wrote this song back in 1999, although the recording is more recent. Recorded using a Roland ep-7, using Sonic Foundry’s Acid platform on a PC. Just straight audio-out from keyboard to line-in on PC. I did a little EQ (click removals and reverb) using Adobe Audition. Originally it was a wav file, but had to convert to mp3 for upload - not sure if this contributes to any significant sound loss (probably). Can’t wait to get into a real studio and record this in a proper environment.
Not every piece of creativity is destined for greatness. Sometimes these things just need to exist. To fill a space. To speak their peace. To flutter and fade.
