‘ouch, brutal.’
“Why don’t you figure out if I meant that or not and come out with me.”
‘you looking at my ass?’
“Not much to look at.”
‘unless you’re gonna move me, I’m not going anywhere.’
“I’m five feet tall and 108 pounds, you really think I can move you?” She asked. “No, so that means you’ll have to get your little booty up on your own and come with me.”
‘yeah, I don’t… care.’
“Well you should, because one way or another your getting off your ass.”
“ Ah, what ?”
“I said you’re sitting on my jacket...”
“Breaking out the beanies and sweaters is probably one of my favorite things at the start of fall. Especially this year because I get to wear them all the time rather than just on the weekends. Pencil skirts and blouses never provided much warmth.”
“Sis, I am right there with you.” Joelle smiled. “Beanies for the win.”
It’s obvious, but it’s cute. “Cute. Right. That’s, uh that’s a good thing, right?” Michael asked and looked at Joelle, a curious expression on his face. Michael hadn’t been on a date in quite some time, actually - he was definitely not used to all of this; the flowers, thinking of something they could do, putting an effort into what he was wearing. Hell, he hadn’t really been in a relationship since his early years in New York - focusing on his work and his family more than anything. But now, he knew he needed to start thinking about himself a little, too. Michael was twenty-six years old, he needed to start thinking about things like that. Glancing over at Joelle, he smiled when her cheeks blushed because of what he said.
It had been the truth.
No, no. That sounds great. Besides, our unofficial first day here in my apartment was filled with booze which I think is nice to leave out this time. Michael chuckled softly and nodded, keeping his brown eyes on her as she said that the flowers was a great start. You don’t need to be nervous. As they made it to the lobby, he looked at Joelle and nodded. “Okay, I’m trying, really.” Michael was anxious out of nature though, so it wasn’t that easy to just turn off but he would try to. Softly, he tapped his thumb against the top of her hand as they made their way towards the front of the apartment, where his car was parked. He knew he hadn’t told her about the anxiousness and the panic attacks he often suffered from, but the timing hadn’t really been proper for a conversation of that sort yet.
“So, my jeep’s back.”
Joelle smiled at him as they walked out of the building. He was trying to not be nervous and that’s all Joelle could ask for. All she could do was try and make him less nervous and calm him down. She would try her best to do both for him. They made it out of the apartment building and she smiled. “That’s awesome.” She exclaimed with a smile. “I love Jeeps. I’ve always wanted one but my parents always told me they weren’t a “White” vehicle.” She rolled her eyes. “But now that I’m on my own, who knows? Maybe I’ll get my own.” She smiled at him.
Michael waited for her in the hallway, that way he could gather his thoughts for a minute or two before she came out and joined him. A million thoughts went through his mind: he needed this date to be perfect. After what Joelle had been through, with her ex-boyfriend and whatnot, he wanted to make sure this would meet her expectations. Actually, he wanted to blow them out of the planet, so hopefully what he had planned would work out and hopefully everything would be where they were supposed to be when they arrived. Michael swallowed and looked at Joelle as she made it back to his side. When she rubbed his hand, he looked down at it and he could feel his cheeks burn when she asked if he was nervous. “Is it that obvious?” he asked and laughed awkwardly while a hand moved to the back of his neck, in which he used to rub the skin a deep red. It’s just me.
“Exactly. It’s you.” Licking his lips, he looked at Joelle as the two of them slowly began to move down the hallway. “You’re definitely something to be nervous about, babe. Trust me,” he said and laughed nervously as he moved one of his hands to find hers, in which he interlocked her fingers with his. Clearing his throat awkwardly, he looked at Joelle and nodded as he pushed the elevator button. “Okay, so I thought we could head to the beach and just, walk and talk a little bit? Uh, there’s a booth there that sells ice cream, popcorn, stuff like that,” he said and rubbed his lips together, before his tongue slid across his bottom lip. For crying out loud boy, get a grip; he yelled at himself, shaking his head. “Or, we could totally do something else too, if you’d rather want that.”
Joelle smiled at him. “It’s obvious, but it’s cute.” She told him when he asked if it was obvious. When he pointed out that he was nervous because it was her, her cheeks turned that bright shade of pink once more. Joelle couldn’t hold back a big smile, even though she was trying to hide it. He interlocked his fingers with hers and she was happy that he was back at her side after all the time spent apart. First, all the time they lost after New York and then right after they had a great night together here, he had to leave again.
“No, no...” She said when he asked if she wanted to do something else. “That sounds great..” She nodded honestly. “Besides, our unofficial first day here in my apartment was filled with booze which I think is nice to leave out this time.” She grinned at him. “If the flowers are any indication of how this night is going to go, it’s going to be great.” She said looking up at him as they made it to the lobby. “You don’t need to be nervous.” Joelle told him. For some reason, she wasn’t nervous and that was because she was so comfortable around Michael, everything felt so easy and right with him.
The look that appeared in front of Michael, it literally knocked the air out of him. he swallowed and took a deep breath as he stared at Joelle, who looked absolutely amazing in her outfit. She looked cute and sexy at the same time. He had no idea how she managed to do that. Michael laughed softly when she threw her arms around him, giving him a big hug, before accepting the flowers he had brought for her. You got me flowers? He swallowed nervously and nodded. Wasn’t that what you were supposed to; he thought. They’re beautiful. A sigh left his lips when she obviously liked them. “You look beautiful,” he said, the words falling off his lips as fast as they had appeared in his head. “Uh… You wanna head outside? It’s - um, it’s going to be late and we might miss what I’ve got planned.”
Michael hadn’t told Joelle a lot about what he had planned. He had one thing though, that he hoped they wouldn’t miss. Hopefully, everything would go after plan. Handing her the flowers, he stuffed his hands into his pockets. “Um, you go put that in a vase or something, then we can head off,” he suggsted and smiled gently at her, feeling nervous - a hell of a lot more nervous than he had felt in a long time.
Joelle smiled and took the flowers from him just as he called her beautiful. Her bright green eyes that were lined with eye makeup that made them pop snapped up to his. Her cheeks turned a slight shade of pink and the smile that grew on her lips was like the one a little school girl has when her crush says hello. Joelle smelled the flowers and smiled before he asked if she wanted to put them in a vase. “Yes, yes.” She said, turning quickly and hurrying into her kitchen, putting them in a vase.
She made it back to his side and shut the door behind her. Joelle turned to face Michael and looked up at him. She smiled up at him and her hand rubbed his arm for just a second. “You’re nervous aren’t you?” She asked him, being able to tell by his face. “It’s just me..” She said shrugging with a small smile, not realizing it sounded like she was saying she wasn’t much to be nervous for.
“Or if you look up compilations of funny animals that’s always good as well.” She told the other girl.
“Oh I bet that’s funny, that’ll be the next thing I look up when I finish these.”
“Do you ever just watch these videos and you can almost feel their pain?” He said, wincing as he watched a person in the video fall completely on their face. “I don’t feel as guilty for laughing if the person in the video is also laughing. The worst of these videos is when you can see how brutal their injuries are. So is this what you do when you’re cooped up in your room all day? Watch people get hurt? Is that what you thrive on?”
“They’re all fine, they wouldn’t put it up here if the people got seriously hurt.” Joelle laughed softly and nodded. “Yup, this is what I thrive on.” She said sarcastically. “Other people’s pain.”
( @joellexwhite. )
Michael had been texting and calling Joelle for the past couple of days, while he had been out of town. The two of them spoke nearly every hour, more than once a day and it was just something that felt right. It didn’t feel weird or exhausting at all. It was obvious that the two of them liked each other more than just friends, and well, one day - the night before he was supposed to go home, he decided to do something about it. As they had been texting each other, Michael asked if maybe she would like for them to go out on a date when he got back. When she had agreed, what felt like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders. So, he said he would pick her up the day after he had come home and that he would plan everything.
So, here he was, waiting outside of Joelle’s door, tapping his foot nervously after he had knocked on the door and was waiting for the girl to come join him in the hallway. It was a little colder outside, so he had put on a pair of dark-blue jeans and a black shirt, that he had pulled up by the sleeves, all the way up until his elbows. Being a gentleman, Michael had of course brought with him a small bouquet of flowers, hoping that she would like them. And then, when the door opened, he lifted his brown eyes and looked at the girl, the smile on his lips widened immensely. “Hey.”
Joelle couldn’t believe her and Michael had gotten so close even while he was gone. The pair had talked everyday, texted in between calls and finally Michael had asked her on a date, after many hint drops from Joelle. He hadn’t told her exactly what they were doing but nonetheless she was excited. Her past two relationships had not gone well, Jake being abusive and Leighton leaving her when she told him what Jake had done, so Joelle was also nervous. Was she stupid to be putting her heart on the line again?
Joelle heard the knock on the door and after taking one last look in the mirror, she headed to the door. She was wearing a pink and blue casual sundress, paired with a navy blue sweater because it was cooler outside, and a pair of ankle boots. Joelle took a deep nervous breath before opening the door. Michael was standing there and her smile grew instantly as his did. Before she could even accept the flowers she threw her arms around his neck, giving him a big hug. Even though she hadn’t seen in a week it felt like longer, especially because of how close they got. She pulled away after a moment and looked at the flowers. “You got me flowers?” She asked him surprised. Jake had never done something nice like that for her. “They’re beautiful.”
“What the fuck is this shit? Am I suddenly supposed to be a Sagittarius?”
Joelle furrowed her eyebrows and smiled at him. “What are you talking about?”
