BTW Peanuts the Hatchetfeild Pocket squirrel is one of the others since she was confirmed to be female, and she is also a sentient being and can talk so yeah I’m pretty sure this is true
Something interesting about the lords in black, concerning how they effect humans,
this will contain spoilers under the cut for
- Basically all the Hatchetfeild stuff
- Bullet point no. 2
Additionally this references mental illness, mostly within the definition of Mania
I’m just gonna rant for a minute so please entertain me. I’ve noticed the majority of the Lords in black endure insanity, or, Mania ( or just how the effect ( or affect? ) humans) Throughout the entire series we see people go off the rails, their personalities altered or exemplified by the lords in black. I think the word Mania is fairly fitting for the effect they have on humans.
That’s the definition of mania ( and I used an effect inbuilt into this app to make it pretty ) I think it’s pretty fitting. I’ll start obvious at Black Friday, the Wiggly Doll has a clear influence on the people of Hatchetfield, and the world. People get angry, obsessing over trying to get this doll, their not just insane but it is that desire and want, to be fulfilled, that drives them. Of course, this feeling is already here to an extent, but it is greatly amplified. ( Side note, the desire/want aspect seems pretty close to Nibbly’s general theme, as seen through honey queen ( I’ll get to Honey queen later, don’t worry) but it is also just something that is an easy human weakness to pray on, and Wiggly’s specifically prays on capitalism, anyway; ) Wivgly causes people to be Manic, and do anything to get the dolls ( noticeably obsessive )
Next on the list is Blinky, again, it’s pretty clear how he influences Bill and Alice in Watcher World, their anger and emotions are amplified for Blinky’s entertainment. Like wiggly, Blinky’s influence greatly amplifies something that’s already there, and twists how they act by using this. It can also be noted this can be seen in the in-universe musical at watcher world, which in of itself could have an entire dissection. Blinky causes mania in people as he causes their emotions to spike resulting in fights for his entertainment
The third big example is a lot less obvious then the other two, it’s Pokey’s influence in TGWDLM. It’s almost been confirmed Pokey is behind TGWDLM after NPMD and Yellowjacket ( the Nightmare time episode ). Now, Pokey is honestly fairly diffrent from the other lords in black, they are creatures of Chaos, but in his goal to truly be the singular voice, he by result creates his own kind of order ( maybe? I’ll get to how it is also kindw chaostic shortly, in sentence after the next sentenceactually! ) . One where everyone is uniform. Now, in Yellowjacket, it has to be pointed out they are a lot more uniform then those in TGWDLM, they are much more order then chaos. In the musical however, the hive is much more chaotic in how it acts, bursting out in song in the middle of the street, manipulating people to infect them, and generally chaotically spreading. they are both synchronized with each other as one entity but chaotic to everything else. That’s a bit of a tangent, but this entire thing is a tangent/rant and if your here your probably as rotted about the Hatchetfield series as I am. Now, back to the main point, Pokey’s Mania is definitly diffrent from the others, he’s very different from the others where in his end goal creates “order”. I do propose that it could still count as mania, mostly the obsessive kind or the extreme emotions kind, following a pattern with the previously mentioned lords in black. The hive kind of obsessive for itself, appropriate for Pokey seeing themself as higher then everything else, and wants everything to join their singing. Additionally, the hive is almost always joyful ( or somewhat angry, thought still having joy ) in their singing, this is almost only true accept when people’s really deep fears are spoken ( possibly the person inside coming through? I read a good theory concerning how the infection may be slower and people are still leaking through ) such as in Alice’s quieter bit in Not your seed. That’s how I propose Pokey induces Mania.
The last two Lords in Black have the least direct affect on humans, Tinky and Nibbly. Tinky’s effect is clearer then Nibbly’s in that he causes Insanity, mostly through just being driven mad by circumstance and quite possibly eldritch phenomenon ( see the end of Time bastard ). You may point out that Nibbly drove the Honey queen contestants to their fighting resulting in the end result, but there’s actually not much proof that it was Nibbly affecting them, it could have been, but it could also just be how driven they were. That driven-ness is infact why Nibbly has the Honey queen contest.
We did a Hatchetfield marathon recently and my decade-long on-again off-again Starkid obsession came ROARING back!! Grace Chasity was designed to appeal to everything I love to paint, so naturally here I am ✨
