Not to imply that JoJo is deep but... Sometimes I think about how Josuke has TWO foils in terms of abilities... And they take complete opposite roles in the story. You have Josuke, who heals, then you have Okuyasu and Kira who both destroy things completely. Their powers are different, but the results are similar. And, like, the contrast between their roles hits me hard because Okuyasu grew up in a shithole and he tries so hard to be a good person. His destructive powers gave him empathy. Meanwhile, Kira had, presumably, a really normal life and ended up being a murderer. Kira is the villain, Okuyasu is the protagonist's best friend. Okuyasu has spent his whole life controling his destructive potential, and in the end??? When Okuyasu saves Josuke by using his destructive powers for good??? To literally erase another person's destructive potential??? Poetic fucking cinema. Okuyasu is the stupid, destructive foil to the smart, healer protagonist, but he's also the empathetic foil to the calculated villain. It's a foil pyramid. Part 4 drives me insane for real.

It's an old observation but the secret sauce that makes JJBA work is that a guy can show up with a stand that has the power to sever their opponents' legs at 100 yards and the protagonists will just cobble together new legs out of bicycle parts and athletic tape and kick the guy's ass immediately, whereas the guy whose stand power is causing toilets to flush clockwise is an existential threat to all human life and defeating him might take up years' worth of the manga
