"Is it real, Daddy?" Fernie asks when I finish authenticating.
"Yes, it's real," I say, "But it's not in great condition, so you need to take extra care of it, or otherwise it'll break, okay?"
"Okay!"
"Remember that it's not a toy either. If at any point we find a piece of history, like your knife, we must do our best to preserve it so others can learn from it too. We can do that by putting it in a secure place and only touching it when we absolutely have to. I'll set up a display for your knife so it can be kept safely in your room, okay?"
"Okay!"
"Can you tell me how you're gonna take care of your knife?"
"Put it in a secure place and only touch it when I absolutely have to."
"Good girl, Fernie!"
While waiting for dinner to finish baking in the oven, Fernie comes up to us feeling concerned about an interaction she had at school.
"Another kid asked me why my name is Fernanda when I'm black," she says, "I told them I was Selvadoradian and that's why my name is Fernanda but he didn't seem to believe me."
"I'm sorry, honey," Rhonda says, "That must have been a very uncomfortable situation to be in."
"Well, the thing is, Fernie... You're mixed like I am," I say, "You're mostly Selvadoradian through both me and your mom, but you're also black because you're part Yoruba. That's from me, and since you have darker skin and coily hair, that kid most likely assumed you're just black."
"That doesn't make you any less Selvadoradian, though," Rhonda says, "We gave you and Silvia Hispanic names to honor that heritage. You are Selvadoradian, regardless of how you look. So, I'm proud of you for speaking up for yourself when that kid assumed you're just black."
"I did the right thing?" Fernie asks.
"Yes!" I say, "Don't ever let anyone try to erase your mixed identity. I've been assumed to be just black because of the way I look too. You did a great job."
I sigh. At least she knows how to say no, at least! (Some adults don't even know how to say no...) It's unrealistic to expect a kiddo to like everything you give them, so I give her another healthy vegetable she does like: peas!
After Silvie goes down for her nap we spend more time digging through treasure. Fernie pulls out what's obviously an Omiscan artifact.
"Daddy, do you know what this is?" she asks me, showing me the artifact.
"Wow, Fernie! This is an Omiscan knife. Nice job! I'll have to authenticate this for you."
"It looks weird. Why is it so round?"
"Ah, time for a little lesson," I smile, "These knives were used to harvest fruit, especially emotion berries. The blade's round so fruit could be harvested easily without hurting the plant. If the blade were straight, it would take more effort to cut through stems, and the harder it is to cut through stems, the more likely you'll mess up and hurt the plant."
"Oh, cool," Fernie says, "I hope the knife's real."
"Me too, Fernie Bernie!"
It's cantina time! We've got another little dancer in the house. Fernie mostly wiggled, but Silvie seems to like clapping more!
Finding The Missing Piece
Round 2 – Group 4
Exploration Day
Part 1 of 3
Kaye begins the day telling our newest group about their itinerary while Dominic makes breakfast.
And Dom better speed up his cooking because Kaye is heart-farting the entire group!!! (She'd never do anything about it but she does thoroughly approve of this group)
Though I am worried that Kishi is trying her luck with Kaye. (OK not really since the read Aura is just a game mechanic and they're all pre-established notifs)
Dominic finishes cooking and though he calls everyone to meal they still want to talk to Kaye leaving him to eat some his meal alone so The Watcher takes it upon herself to force everyone to stop talking to Dom's sister and get them to eat breakfast.
Finally everyone sits down to eat and talk (and for Lilly to exchange phone numbers with Dom), Except Kishi who is talking on the phone . . . did she get a reception upgrade from one of the save's spellcasters?
Everyone gets up and starts admiring the art in the room (probably because they're at a museum lot) and Dom plays musical chairs to continue talking to everyone.
Soon enough everyone has eaten and it's time to head off to the Jungle.
Through the entry Gate we see that this first gate after entering the Jungle is yet again locked and The Watcher wonders if it will ever open.
Oh well . . . ONWARD PAST THE FALLS!!!
And the Obligatory Waterfall group photo.
Dominic clears the next gate while Lilly talks to him and once they get to the other side we see that unfortunately the only gate we haven't made it through yet is locked maybe next group can make it through during their exploration day.
The Watcher leaves everyone to idle to see what they will do but after a sim hour that no one does anything she rolls a virtual die to see which gate they'll go through. The Watcher chooses Dominic to clear the way seeing as he's the only one with a Machete since the ones that were dropped on the home lot before coming to Selvadorada were forgotten (some were placed at the camp lot but the game says that none of the group members own them and they can not be placed in inventories *sigh*). Everyone comes over to talk to Dom and each other while the gate is cleared.
To our dehydrated mermaid's delight we make it to the Omiscan Royal Baths! Though everyone does idle for yet another Sim hour (very glad exploration days start early).
Finally Kishi makes her way into the water without any Watcher intervention and is much happier while Dom, Lilly and Filomena talk, and Rowan went to a bush . . .
Well let's leave her be and head back to the group.
Panning back we find Filomena and Dominic embracing
and a quick cycle through everyone's avatars shows Lilly with a Dominic related whim and apparently she formed a crush on him at some point? The notification never popped up but Lilly gets Crush Points!
Alright let's leave the three of them to do what they're gonna do and check on Rowan who is viewing the next gate, wanna come back and hang out with the group maybe?
WOAH! Back to everyone else since we get a notif that Dom and Filomena are having their first kiss!! Didn't they have one last round? After going through all of Filomena's posts from last round she in fact never had a "first kiss" with Dominic. She also formed a crush (at least we got that notif!).
We're out of room for pictures so see you in Part 2! One day I'll be able to delete photos but I just don't like to.
Ugh, it feels so good to be back here, though I'll admit I'm not used to humidity anymore (Chestnut Ridge is dry most of the time). Boy, does it feel good to feel that jungle air on my skin!
I think you know by now how we go about things here. We get to work right away, with the help of little Silvie, of course!
Fernie helps out too by taking on the smaller excavation sites. She finds a nice little fossil. She's a pro archaeologist already!
Later on Fernie and I spend time splashing around in the pool.
"Daddy, we're here 'cause it's Silvia's first time in Selvadorada, right?" Fernie asks.
"That's right!" I say.
"Well... Silvia's a baby. She won't remember. Why would you and Momma take her here if she isn't gonna remember?"
"We took you here when you were a baby," I say, "Whether you remembered didn't matter. We had a blast! You "helped" us excavate artifacts... You danced with us... It was awesome! We wanna have fun with Silvia too, even though she won't remember. The three of us will remember it, though, and when Silvia's older, we'll tell her all about her first time in Selvadorada, just like we did with you! Does that make sense?"
Episode 2: First Head of Household! - Nomination Ceremony
what is big brother? / beginning / previous / next
A/N: 🥁🥁🥁 And that’s the end of our longest episode! Right on time with actual Big Brother (US) starting last night. Of course, the next episode will detail the Golden Power of Veto competition and ceremony, snd then episode 4 will be the dreaded eviction night, gasp!
Pro tip: Just because your kid likes mashed peas, doesn't mean they'll like other foods babies don't usually like, such as crushed lemon... Silvie made sure to tell me she really, really hates crushed lemon. Sigh...
After Fernie leaves for school, Rhonda and I chat.
"Now that Fernie's in school, I've been kinda bored. And antsy," I say, "We haven't traveled in forever... I'm getting that travel itch again."
"Yeah, I'm antsy to travel too," Rhonda says, "It's so hard to travel when you're busy with kids... Do you think we're ready for another vacation?"
"I know I am. Maybe we go to Selvadorada for a few days. Silvie still hasn't been down there. Then maybe after that we can go somewhere new. Whaddaya think?"
"You completely read my mind! I'll look into tickets today, okay?"
"Thank god!" I cheer, "I'm tired of being home all the time..."
Fernie comes home looking a litte different than when she left, "Guess what, Daddy? I lost a tooth at school!"
"That's awesome, Fernie! What happened after you lost it?"
"I had to go to the nurse and they put my tooth in a treasure chest! Now I have a tooth gap like you!"
I burst out laughing, not expecting my tooth gap to just be pointed out like that.
"Do you think when I'm a grown-up I'll still have a tooth gap?" Fernie asks.
"Well, the dentist said you'll need braces when you're older," Rhonda says, "Those will close up any tooth gaps, so enjoy that gap while you've got it!"
It's my turn to hang out with Silvie after her nap. She's pretty cranky...
"Don't worry, Silvie-girl, tomorrow you'll be going to a whole new world! It'll be lots of fun. You'll see!"
Happy Leisure Day! Rhonda and Fernie are cooking some chili over the campfire! (Well, Fernie's helping by throwing sticks in the fire... but it keeps the fire going, right?)
Okay, that campfire chili was the BEST I've ever had. That smoky flavor was to DIE for! For dessert, Fernie and I make some s'mores together. We ended up burning our mouths at the same time, though. It's so hard to let the marshmallow cool off when s'mores are so good!
Leisure Day isn't Leisure Day without water fun. Fernie and I play with the sprinkler while Rhonda lounges in the kiddie pool we bought for the girls!
When the sun goes down, we light some fireworks! Fernie had a BLAST waving around her sparkler!
I'd say this year's Leisure Day is a massive success!
"I don't wanna be kicked off..." Fernie says nervously.
"He won't," Rhonda says, "He's been trained for a very long time. I've had him since before I met your dad!"
"Really?" Fernie says.
"Really," Rhonda nods, "If I didn't think you could trust him, I wouldn't let you ride him. Okay?"
"Okay, Momma..."
In the end, Fernie had a great time riding Titus, and just like Rhonda said, he didn't buck her off.
Now it's off to activities more within Fernie's comfort zone, like swining!
Rhonda goes inside to be with Silvie and... while on her tummy, Silvie slowly manages to start putting one hand and knee in front of the other. Silvie's figuring out how to crawl!
"Yes! Yes!" Rhonda cheers, "Good girl, Silvia. Come to Mommy!"
Silvie inches forward and places a tiny hand on Rhonda's knee.
"Wow! Amazing job, Silvie!" Rhonda scoops Silvie up and hugs her tight, "You're growing up so fast..."
Update: Fernie still loves boogy-ing! And her moves are getting better by the day.
Update 2: We're beginning the weaning process with Silvie! And boy, this girl is MESSY. Maybe it's because we're starting a little earlier than we did with Fernie, but... there's food all over her face, hands, clothes... A bath is definitely in order.
Rhonda gives the foods Fernie loved when she was weaning, but... Silvie seems indifferent to them. Instead of applesauce, Silvie's food breakthrough ends up being mashed peas! Who would have thought?
Since Rhonda's busy feeding Silvie, I'm in charge with caring for the animals today. If you would have told me I would be milking a mini goat that my wife and I own, I wouldn't have believed you.
It's pretty rainy today, but that doesn't stop Fernie from going outside anyway. She walks inside soaked and with muddy shoes.
"Hey!" I yell, "Wipe off your shoes. You're getting mud in the house."
"Sorry, Daddy," Fernie says, doing as I said and wiping off her shoes ont he door mat, "I was pretending I was a pirate going through a storm."
"Oh really?" I say, "And did you beat the storm?"
"Arrrr! Me mateys got through the storm and got me treasure!" Fernie says in her best pirate voice.
"Good! Now go change into some dry clothes and I'll give you some of the spaghetti I made."
Fernie changes into her comfy jammies and enjoys a warm plate of spaghetti to warm back up... I guess maybe the rain doesn't bother her as much as I thought it would.
Rhonda wanted to go to bed early, so I tuck the girls into bed. Good night Fernie! Good night Silvie!
